  • Sight Village: Day 2 Highlights
Today on the show, there are more highlights from Sight Village in England courtesy of listener Tim Dixon.
Tim talks to Philip Ward, from a company called Seeing Solutions, which manufactures a product called the Mini Guide. It’s a navigation device that can be held in your hand or attached to your mobility aid as you move around your environment. Then, Tim speaks with Stuart Lawlor, at Sight and Sound Technology, about the new SensePlayer from HIMS and also to Freek van Welsenis, co-founder of the company Hable, most famous for its Braille input keyboard for smartphones called the Hable One.
And, for some reason beyond Steven and Shaun’s comprehension, Tim gets into an interesting conversation about handbags with attendees Hannah and Michelle!

  • Double Tap Express: Blind People In Space, Calling Annie & 3D Printing
Today on the Express edition, Steven and Shaun look back on the big stories we covered this week, starting with a review of the main tech stories from Grace Scoffield.
Also, there’s a chance to hear our chat with Jason Fayre on the question of whether 3D printers could be used to print out Braille. There’s another chance to hear listener Lena’s wonderful demonstration of the Call Annie app. And, later in the show, there’s a chance to enjoy our conversation this week with Andy Squires, who is blind and loves the idea of space travel so went along to a course that got him pretty close to space exploration, albeit here on Earth. Listen to his fascinating story today.
And, Marc Aflalo joins us to update listeners on the new Access Tech Live TV show coming to AMI-tv later this year, hosted by himself and Steven Scott.

  • A Fond Farewell, Call Annie & Your Feedback
Today on the show, Steven and Shaun take a break for a second to say a fond farewell to Steven’s beloved dog Dougal, who has been part of his life for 14 years but, sadly, had to be put to sleep on Thursday. Steven pays tribute to his loyal friend and companion and shares his memories with Shaun, who has also experienced this moment in the past.
The show moves on to react to your feedback and comments on the subject of being questioned about your sight level, and why Mastodon is a good place for people who are blind to connect. And lovely listener Lena gets in touch to share her thoughts and demonstrate the app Call Annie that is being touted as a virtual friend on your smartphone. But is this a good or bad thing for people who are lonely?

  • 3D Printing, Advocacy & A Song
One thing is for sure at Double Tap: You never quite know what you are going to get!
Today on the show, Steven and Shaun discuss Shaun’s latest software find, called Logitech Options+ which lets him add new functionality to his MX Keys keyboard. Also, there’s a beautiful message from listener Robbie who tells us about the impact our show on blind advocacy had on him personally.
Also, Jason Fayre from Toronto joins us to talk about 3D printing and answers our questions on whether the technology could be used for printing out Braille books.
And if that’s not enough for one show, we also have a new song produced for us by longtime listener and friend of the show Philippe Bouchard.

  • Going Dotty Over Braille
Today on the show, Steven and Shaun talk about Braille and Steven’s dive into the world of dots. The pair chat about the benefits of learning Braille and why hard copy Braille is better in the early years of learning as opposed to using Braille displays. Steven also shares his thoughts on the best ways to get started in learning and Shaun questions why there are so few resources to get started.
There are also lots of comments around the unofficial "Grade 3" Braille code and chats about how useful it really can be, plus there is sympathy from listener Harry for Mary’s query about making Braille cells larger and more spaced apart. And our good friend Greg from Pennsylvania chimes in with his thoughts on the subject of blind pride - is that really a thing?
