  • Chapter 16: The Magic Art of the Great Humbug - "Believing In Our Own Magic"

    Send us Fan Mail

The big moment has arrived for our group to finally receive brains (pins and needles), a heart (a silken sack of sawdust), and courage (a questionable green liquid.. yikes?) as the Great Humbug performs his utmost wizardry to deliver some great PR for his image. Tara and EmKay cozy up on a rainy day to question their relationships with external/internal validation, the beauty of "misaligned paths leading you closer to your truth,"  and personal journeys to believe in their very own magic. Plus, Tara finally watched Oz The Great and Powerful and has some thoughts. #priorities

    Send us Fan Mail

Our hopeful dreamers return to the Wizard’s throne room to lay claim to what he promised, but instead end up finding a humbug cowering in the corner; a man from Omaha making believe at being a Wizard. Tara and EmKay discuss the origins of the word ‘humbug,’ magician-related theories behind Baum’s inspiration for creating the Wizard, and the plethora of nuanced American ideals featured in this chapter. Also, more “Home Alone” references.

  • L. Frank Baum & "Bandit Jim Crow"

    Send us Fan Mail

In our continued honoring of the winged monkeys' unjust enslavement in The Wizard of Oz, Tara and EmKay hold the author himself accountable for past racial stains without quickly reaching for a Tide To Go pen. These stains are uncomfortable to stare at, but a part of the history we want to continue to unveil. Please proceed with listening caution.  This is the final episode in this week’s 3 part series.

**Please note that when Tara shares the publication year of “Bandit Jim Crow” she meant 1906, not 2006 (It was a late night).  Gratitude to you for forgiving this hiccup.
