There was one female Deputy US Marshal in the Indian Territory. Her name was Fiona Mae Miller. The Fort Smith Elevator, in its November 6, 1891, issue described her as a dashing brunette of charming manners, an expert shot and a superb horsewoman, and brave to the verge of recklessness.
Some even went so far as to call her a female Bass Reeves; others just called her lady law. She doesn't backwater for any man.
Marshal Miller is on a mission to bring a Cherokee renegade, Cal Mankiller, to justice. She follows his trail of blood to the rugged and mysterious Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma Territory.
Will she finally see justice served? Will she welcome Mankiller to his first day in hell? Find out in Lady Law.

and like it so much
I had the opportunity to read an advance copy, and like it so much, I ordered the ebook version for my Kindle. Why? So I can revisit the action and adventure, but, also, enjoy the crystal-clear descriptions of the characters, good and bad, who populate the scenes. Farmer has captured not just the sights and sounds of Oklahoma, IT in exquisite detail, but also pays homage to the people of the time. Most of them were law-abiding, peaceful settlers looking for a new start in the new territory. Others, however were not.
I won't spoil the book for readers, other than to say that it has one of the most evil criminals to ever set foot in the territory. You will root for him to be captured or killed, just to bring his murderous rampage to an end.
Oh, yes, the title character, Fiona May Miller, (no relation, but I would love to be able to claim her,) is a larger-than-life rarity-a female law officer in one of the most difficult places in the west to enforce law and order. Her skill and courage carry her through trials and tribulations that would stop the heart of most men.
I'm going to leave her partner a secret, for now. Read the book to uncover another character familiar to fans of the Old West.
A strong woman who wouldn't give up
I enjoyed the different twists and turns in the story. It wasn't easily predictable and had several things happen that I wouldn't have thought about.
I liked Fiona being shown as a brave who stood her ground. She was described as a smart lady and also tough so that she could handle different situations with ease. She cared for others and tried to help them if possible.
The horrible things that happened while chasing the criminal did not stop her. She wanted to catch him for her own reason's and also for all the things that he did all through the story.
The description's of Oklahoma and the area between there and Texas were very good.
Mr. Farmer tells you where the characters are and describes it so well that you feel like you are there with Bill & Fiona.
Fiona is a brave Lady Marshall who stood her ground.
The ending was a surprise.
Hollywood TV Show Natural
LADY LAW by actor/author Ken Farmer is another Western genre novel with a female protagonist juxtaposed in the 19th Century as a US MARSHAL. The author allows you snippets and insights into literature and American History through witty dialogue that enlightens and confuses some of the characters as counterpoint to the parallel stories of the protagonist and the antagonist. This book, with an excellent editor, and an excellent casting director would make a great movie or TV Series. LADY LAW is another good western novel in the Ken Farmer Nation Series of Books.
