    Publisher's Summary:
Told it was impossible to minister behind the Iron Curtain, Andrew knew that nothing was too hard for God. "Lord," he prayed, "in my luggage I have Scripture I want to take to Your children. When You were on earth, You made blind eyes see. Now, I pray, make seeing eyes blind. Do not let the guards see those things You do not want them to see." And they never did.
    Critic Reviews:
"Robert Whitfield does a splendid job reading this 'adventure.' His soft English accent brings out much of the author's humility, and wonder, in this journey." (AudioFile)
"Tension builds page by page in this remarkable true document...more thrilling than a spy story with its numerous near escapes and mounting climaxes of danger." (Los Angeles Times)
    Members Reviews:
    Tremendous story.
This well-told bio adventure is definitely worth the listen. Fascinating insight into WWII, the rise of Communism, and the amazing lengths God goes to for His children.
    God is still in control!
If you could sum up God's Smuggler in three words, what would they be?
    God provided abundantly.
What did you like best about this story?
The parts I liked best about this story is that God provided through all the circumstances, He never let them down, no matter what.
What about Robert Whitfields performance did you like?
I felt like I was there, in the scenes, I was caught up in it so well.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Seen by God, unseen by man
    Any additional comments?
If you like adventure, if thrills are your 'thing', then read or listen to this book. It will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what God does next. Awesome!
    Inspiring
Great book! Really enjoyed this, talks about faith and what it can do to change your many lives for the better.
    Faith
It was great to listen to a book that depicted the awesome power of God.We know that he can make the blind eyes see but he can make the seeing eyes blind enabling His Word to get through to those that need it..Our God is an awesome God.
    Fantastic Biography of a Ministry
I wasn't disappointed when I took a chance on this one (Amazon reviewers really seemed to liked it). Although mine was read by Simon Vance (extraordinary British reader). A must hear along with G.K. Chesterton's biography of St. Francis of Assisi.

David, unlike any Bible character before him, had the charisma to inspire a great nation. Yet in other ways he was a most ordinary man-often gripped by destructive passion, rocked by personal tragedy, and motivated by political gain. Yet, he is the one character the Bible describes as a "man after God's own heart." In this first volume of the "Great Lives" series Charles Swindoll shows how David proved his love for God many times over in an extraordinary life that left an enduring legacy of faith.

Outstanding history - well written book
David is a truly remarkable history, no question about it, and Charles Swindoll does an amazing job of reviewing the various aspects of David's life, personality and events in a very real way.
Through the book you will certainly laugh, cry and feel each event very vividly - and at the end understand why David was a man according to God's own heart.
One of those books that makes you want to be a better person, to pursue a different relationship with God, not based on the exterior but a true, personal and deep relationship with the all mighty God!
    I highly recommed!
    Worth listening to...
Worth listening to, if you admire David's life. A life and man with God's heart.
I keep referring to this book for more and more imsight
I truly appreciate and applaud this great work on the life of David. Thank You for blessing us
    GOD TRULY EXISTS
Thanks to my lord and savior the writings of Davids life helps me to never give up on myself! Thank Jesus over and over for his wisdom and grace and for truly being and feeling his forgiveness.
    His heart over actions
Mr Swindoll is an excellent Bible teacher. This book is an example of God revealing truth through his teaching. It was encouraging to see that David, although he was a man with a life of poor actions, was a man after God's heart. God sees our desires, and although we continually fail He Loves Us in spite of it because of who he is. David wanted righteousness, made poor decisions, and yet God counted him righteous because of his desires.

    Publisher's Summary:
The second part of Peterson's momentous five-volume work on spiritual theology, Eat This Book challenges us to read the Scriptures on their own terms, as God's revelation, and to live them as we read them. With warmth and wisdom Peterson offers greatly needed, down-to-earth counsel on spiritual reading. In these pages he draws readers into a fascinating conversation on the nature of language, the ancient practice of lectio divina, and the role of Scripture translations; included here is the "inside story" behind Peterson's own popular Bible translation, The Message.
Countering the widespread practice of using the Bible for self-serving purposes, Peterson here serves readers with a nourishing entrée into the formative, life-changing art of spiritual reading.

    Ohhhh!! What an Eye Opener!
I have read the Word for years and finally I can see that it is alive! life giving and for every day life.
Thank you for the extraordinary work that was done to write this book.
    His grace is sufficient.
Good message but lost me with the writing style
What would have made Eat This Book better?
If the writer wrote more simply. Sentences were too wordy.
If youve listened to books by Eugene H. Peterson before, how does this one compare?
I have not listened to this author before and probably would not listen to any of his other books because of his writing style.
What aspect of Grover Gardners performance would you have changed?
I love the way Grover Gardner narrates. His performance is probably the only reason I hung in there as long as I did with this book although I eventually I just lost interest.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
From what I could get through the writing, the message was good but as I said, it was just hard to follow.
A Call To Make the Bible Part of You
What made the experience of listening to Eat This Book the most enjoyable?
Eugene Peterson as always has insightful and sometimes searing thoughts regarding the Bible and living the Christian life. At times it drags, but then, bam, he hits you between the eyes with a concept. Well worth hanging in and listening to the whole thing.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    N/A
What aspect of Grover Gardners performance would you have changed?
I do not care for the narrator's voice or his accent. It actually made me hesitate to order the next book, Christ Plays In Ten Thousand Places, but the material is good enough that I was willing to endure the narrator.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book will force you to examine your life as a Christian.
    Outstanding book on Spiritual Theology
Would you consider the audio edition of Eat This Book to be better than the print version?
This is volume 2 of Eugene Petersons 5 volume series on Spiritual Theology. His style is very conversational and understandable. I highly recommend this book and the others in the series.
    Most helpful book on translation!
This is the most helpful book on translation I have ever studied. Truly made me understand it to its deepest and most human core. It's a must read for anyone interested in Bible translation and the many ways it's done and promoted today.

Most of us have no idea where we're going most of the time. Perfect. "Celtic Christians had a name for the Holy Spirit - An Geadh-Glas, or 'the Wild Goose.' The name hints at mystery. Much like a wild goose, the Spirit of God cannot be tracked or tamed. An element of danger, an air of unpredictability surround Him. And while the name may sound a little sacrilegious, I cannot think of a better description of what it's like to follow the Spirit through life. I think the Celtic Christians were on to something.

    Amazing Chase!
Would you listen to Wild Goose Chase again? Why?
I would listen to Wild Goose Chase again because it was packed full of so much information that I am sure I missed something. This book was exactly what I needed to read to get out of my comfort zone and chase the Wild Goose.
Who was your favorite character and why?
God is always my favorite character. This is not a fiction book but God plays the greatest role in this writing and it is very evident that Mark Batterson is working in conjunction with the Holy Spirit to put these words into a book.
What does Mark Batterson bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
It is his experience, so hearing it from his mouth is like you are having a conversation with him. It was very enlightening to hear him share his own experiences.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, it was too full of information. I had to listen to a little at a time and digest that information before I could move on to the next section.
    Any additional comments?
If you are thinking you have dreams but don't know how to pursue them or you are trying to get out of a rut in life, this is the book for you.
    Life-changing
This book came at the perfect time! It confirmed the passion to be a risk taker in my walk with God. I had recovered from an illness that required medical leave. During my leave, I had a lot of time to process my life prior and assess what was good and was great! This gave me focus to push ahead and allow God to take me on a Wild Goose Chase. So far...no regrets!

    Publisher's Summary:
Wright's accessible new volume, built on his Cambridge University Hulsean Lectures of 2004, takes a fresh look at Paul in light of recent understandings of his Jewish roots, his attitude toward the Roman Empire, and his unique reframing of Jewish symbols in relation to his experience of the risen Christ. Then Wright attempts a short systematic account of the main theological contours of Paul's thought and its pertinence for the church today.

Like reading a commentary on audio
Definitely a hard listen. It's like reading a commentary on audio. I found myself having to rewind to listen again to what he says many times. If you want to really understand what he's saying I would suggest buying the book instead for this.
    Interesting and Deep
I liked this book, but honestly, it was difficult to get through. The book is deep and not always easy to understand. I wish the writing was a little easier to grasp. Often I found the language complex when simplicity would have been more appropriate.
    Stimulating Yet Unclear on Justification
Overall I really enjoyed this challenge to: reexamine the linguistic scriptures related to Paul, and rethink his ecclesiastical theology. Yet, I think John Piper maybe correct in asserting that N.T. Wright's message on justification is less than clarion in explanation. Perhaps, that was something to be found more clearly stated in another of his writings or presentations.
    chapters mistaged, otherwise great!
I've read a chunk of Wright's Jesus stuff, including his academic stuff. This book was really a really good"big picture" book for his Pauline stuff. I also like to narrators accent, very appropriate.. the only thing was that the book Is 8 chapters, but this is divided into 7 that aren't even close to where the actual chapters are..
    Second time around
    Any additional comments?
When I originally purchased this audiobook and gave it a listen, I couldn't follow it at all, for I was completely alien to the context, the scholars debates and the different perspectives out there. Without a basic awareness of these things, N.T Wrights writings on Paul, didn't have any shelf to rest on, it was all Greek to me. But now several years later, having become a little more familiar with the issues, I listened to the book again and found it really interesting, so good in fact, that I may listen to it again and take notes. This work compilation of of lectures on matters of what Wright expounds on much more elsewhere, some of Wrights insights are subtle; that don't necessarily stick out or seem ground-breaking on the surface, even now I can follow him, if I am not paying close attention, what he writes brush right past me. But I have found when I do truly listen to what he is saying, Wright often is illuminating and does have some fresh perspectives

    Lost history of eastern Christianity
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lost History of Christianity?
Lost History isn't the best book I've ever read, but it was a learning experience. I've even taken some courses on Christian history before, and outside of a few paragraphs here or there, almost none of the "lost history" was covered. There really was no part of the book that didn't offer some good insight or things to think about. That said, however, there is little fluff in the book and it is crammed full of information and it really would take a few readings to digest it all. There was so much information that if I had to take a test over this book, I would be really worried right at the moment.
One of unexpected pluses of the book is that it isn't just a history of Christianity. It covered Christianity in relation to other religions in the Middle East, and in doing so, also went a long way in giving some history of said other religions (Islam, Buddhism, etc.). In fact, I found the author to be really fair on his assessments. For instance, he pointed out some periods of history where Islam won battles and gained ground, and Christians wrote that they were actually glad to not be under the rule of Rome any more. And when history changed and Christian persecution under Islam escalated, he didn't gloss over things or make excuses for them. But at no point did I feel he wasn't pretty fair to all parties involved, even though the book was obviously written from a Christian viewpoint of the events.
All in all, Jenkins is a gifted writer, and he gave me a new way to look at certain things...things I have seen as "watering down" Christianity for decades now, I at least have a little different perspective on now.
    Any additional comments?
I saw one reviewer state that at one point in his life, he didn't think some of the groups -- Jacobites, Nestorians, etc. -- were true Christians. I might get a few details wrong here, but I got a chuckle of out one part of Lost History where a representative from Rome finally got to visit Christians in Ethiopia (I think), and they treated him badly and said he was not saved because he was outside of the Ethiopian church hierarchy. Yep. They were real Christians, all right!
    Worthwhile with caveats
My reaction to this book is mixed. The author spends an inordinate amount of space stating & restating that a major part of Christian history has been ignored... the history of the eastern church and its theology. I began to wonder if he ever was going to get around to that history and those beliefs. IMHO, much of the first & second chapters could be omitted. For me, the meat of the book begins at chapter 3 (approx 2 hr 45 min on the timer).
I did learn a great deal of fascinating information-- I'd often wondered about Coptic and Syriac Christianity, both of which get cursory treatment in most church histories.

    C. S. Lewis was a profound thinker with the rare ability to communicate the philosophical and theological rationale of Christianity in simple yet amazingly effective ways. God in the Dock contains 48 essays and 12 letters written by Lewis between 1940 and 1963 for a wide variety of publications. Ranging from popular newspaper pieces to learned defenses of the faith, these essays cover topics as varied as the logic of theism, good and evil, miracles, vivisection, the role of women in church polity, and ethics and politics. Many of these writings represent Lewis' first ventures into themes he would later treat in full-length books.

    Critic Reviews:
"[Both Lewis'] searching mind and [his] poetic spirit are readily evident....Here the reader finds the tough-minded polemicist relishing the debate; here, too, the kindly teacher explaining the cosmic extraction by means of clarifying analogies." (New York Times Book Review)
    Members Reviews:
    A must-have!
Although the title means virtually nothing to American readers not being familiar with English legal terminology, it is still the perfect title. (It means, God on Trial)
If you like C.S. Lewis, or if you have never read him and have an interest in serious philosophical thinking regarding life and meaning and religious and legal issues this book has something for you. An anthology of never printed, or obscure, articles, speeches, letters, and essays ranging from about 5 minutes to perhaps half an hour each, these pieces are a great introduction to critical thought regarding God, criminal justice, existence, miracles, social issues, etc. It is amazing how little has changed in 50+ years since the last of these were presented... but then mankind is always mankind.
If you were thinking about his book Miracles, but had trouble getting through it, two chapters in this give you the simplest summary of much of that book.
I have listened to this book a number of times and will continue to listen to parts of it on occasion as it is timeless and unparalleled in its clarity of thought and expression. I especially like Lewis' assertion that if you cannot explain a theological concept without using theological terms then you probably don't understand the concept. He is a master at presenting complex concepts in simple terms understandable by the masses, hence his being asked to speak to labor organizations and commoners meetings where he was as well received as at the Oxford Society which he led.
    Astounding
This is the real deal. Excellent. What a beautiful mind.
If you like narrator---I do---try the Divine Comedy.
    Beautiful.
This is a superb work. I liked it so much, I ordered the Hard Cover Book---not cheap.
    More Hidden Gold
I don't why someone said this was boring.
If anyone knows the works of C.S. Lewis, they know that it is so rich that you have to listen to it again and again to get its full benefit.
The narrator is perfect. Sound like the Mere Christianity narrator. I am pumped that this book has been published.
    Music, sweet music
    Superb
Listening to this is like I suspect it would have been to listen at the feet of CS Lewis. Excellent and insightful in every respect. If you like Mr. Lewis, you will love this collection of letters, comments, personal talks, etc that he gave. Amazing mind!
    Excellent for the C.S.

    IT REALLY ISN'T ABOUT ME
MAX LUCADO IS A NAME YOU CAN ALWAYS ATRUST AND THIS BOOK IS NO EXCEPTION. HE MAKES YOU REALIZE THAT "I'M NOT AN IMPORTANT AS I THIN I AM" , EXCEPT IN GOD'S SIGHT. READING THIS BOOK BROUGHT ME A SENSE OF SEVURITY AND PEACE THAT I NEEDED BADLY.
Every Christ follower should read this book
This book help me understand my purpose in life. Helped me understand why things happened in my life the way they did. I can say with a huge smile. "To Him be the Glory" I pray that every day of my life will find a way to glorify Him. He is worthy. I had to purchase the book just so I can write and remember all in this book. I listened to this book twice I have a strange feeling I'll be listing to it again and again.
Excellent book about focus on God
Max Lucado is a gifted writer. I think someone else could have presented the material better, but he's not the worst author/narrator I've ever heard.
The best part about this book is the focus that it places on God and maintaining a godly outlook that considers God and His reputation first and foremost in any situation. He does this without minimizing the believer's suffering, which is a difficult thing to do.
I took away a star from the overall category because I sensed a little bit of the "health and wealth" theology, which really had no place in an otherwise excellent book. I understood his point that godly habits sometimes render a prosperous result and that God should be given credit for anything good that comes whether we worked hard for it or not, but he got dangerously close to suggesting that if we follow God, we are going to be wealthy.
In total, it was a wonderful book that will help the reader/listener gain perspective no matter how chaotic the situation seems to be. It's not an easy concept, but it's an important one that really helps to fight the depression that comes with thinking that it is all about us.
A solid book but not my favorite
I enjoyed the book and, as usual, Max Lucado made some great points and had a couple great illustrations but this one fell short of what I was hoping for. The thrust of the book is that we can have peace and rejoice in the fact that it's not about me. Though a great point and a perspective I had not considered before, I was hoping for more help with my pride and some down to earth help on how to keep pushing myself toward a more humble perspective.
It's not about me, has reminded me Who it IS about
This is a book that I will re-read several times, its something that I need to hear & be reminded of continually , & this book does a wonderfull job at it!
I really enjoyed this audio book & I love how Max Lucado did the narration !
    I highly recommend this book!

    Grand indeed
Ravi is always a very cogent thinker, but this book struck me a more than just his normal insightful teaching. Rather than being being an essay on a single theme, this to me seemed to be a type of "unifier" of the themes that God writes on our lives each day. A particuarly helpful book if you are seeking for God's pattern in your life.
Great book read by the author
Ravi Zacharias is a public speaker as well as an author, and he is the perfect narrator for this beautifully written, inspiring book. The Grand Weaver works well in the audible format although a number of times I have stopped the recording in order to write down something that is especially notable. Well worth the purchase.
    God's Hand in My Life
Would you listen to The Grand Weaver again? Why?
yes The book is encouraging to me as I pass through difficult times, as the author reminds me in many poignant stories how God truly works. All things are in His hands.
What other book might you compare The Grand Weaver to and why?
The book reminded me of 'Trusting God' by Jerry Bridges. Both books gave me a peace about knowing I could trust God with my life & experiences.

best book on life of Christ
Very good book on the life death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I get more out of it every time I read it. Can't recommend it enough to any Christian who wants a closer walk with God, or any non Christian who wants to know what all the fuss is about.
