    Very Helpful
Would you consider the audio edition of The Strategy of Satan to be better than the print version?
This book was written by the pastor's pastor in 1979 and is still very helpful today.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Strategy of Satan?
Perhaps he will surprise you with David's great sin. What is David's great sin? When did he behave very wickedly?
Which character as performed by Joe Geoffrey was your favorite?
The narration is very engaging. The only slip seemed to be when he referred to a verse in Jude as a chapter. Of course, there are only verses in this short New Testament letter.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
You will need time alone to take notes and digest this book. It is compact "with no padding" as the author states in his introduction.
    Any additional comments?
Satan is alive and well. He is after our minds, bodies, ands will. He stands as the great accuser of the brethren. I rejoice in the Greater Intercessor!
    Great listen
Incredibly Well written. Very Well read. Thought provoking, convicting. Uplifting, edifying, and equipping. Praise God
    This book was mpressive!
I enjoyed listening to this book. It cleared up a lot of confusion. fir me.
    Lord God Almighty Inspired
I am a struggling Christian who has fallen prey to Satan on multiple occasions. I needed this book as surely as I need air to breathe and with the same level of necessity. Thank you, Lord God for remembering is again!

Very good book I learned a lot. I will take it daily with me every where

Not everyone may frequent the church on the corner, but we each have a place of worship. For some, it's at the office. For others, before the mirror. Still others, on the basketball court. You were created to worship! So you naturally find a place to do it. But to worship anything less than God robs both Him and us. It's at the foot of the cross where we reel, trying to comprehend how a holy God could chase us down with kindness and redeem us from an eternity of futile gods.
In this newly revised and refreshed edition of the original The Air I Breathe, you'll find your sense of worship increasing beyond church walls or a Sunday routine. Soon all of life becomes your delighted response to God!

Long time to say what it had to say
In short this book is saying that we worship 247. Not just when we are singing in church. The story did not engage me as the book essentially just repeats my summary over and over. The narrator is good but the book could have been shorter.

  • Scripture and the Authority of God Audiobook by N. T. Wright

Title: Scripture and the Authority of God
Subtitle: How to Read the Bible Today
    Author: N. T. Wright
    Narrator: James Adams
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 37 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-19-11
    Publisher: christianaudio.com
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 106 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
In this revised and expanded edition of The Last Word, Wright, Bishop of Durham, one of the preeminent Bible scholars of our day and author of such beloved works as After You Believe and Simply Christian, gives new life to the old, tattered doctrine of the authority of Scripture, delivering a fresh, helpful, and concise statement on the current battles for the Bible; and restoring Scripture as a place to find God's voice.
Removing the baggage that the last hundred years of controversy and confusion have placed on this doctrine, he renews listeners' confidence in the Bible and explains that the Bible can still be a guide for their lives. This updated version includes two new case studies, taking a closer look at what it means to keep the Sabbath holy, and examining how Christians can defend marital monogamy in modern society.
    Members Reviews:
    Takes scripture very seriously
Scripture and The Authority of God is a reworking of a 2005 book, The Last Word and I think is the most accessible and best book of Wrights that I have read.
The basic thesis of this book is that the authority of scripture is completely dependent on the authority of God. So there is no separate authority of scripture apart from God. This seems fairly uncontroversial, but it is important. The book opens with a fairly long discussion about how we currently understand scripture. This necessarily involves a discussion of the enlightenment, modernism, post-modernism and a variety of other subjects. It is not a wasted discussion and while it may be a little repetitive for people that are fairly conversent with Wright and with his line of thinking, it really cannot be skipped.
The next section is a long discussion of what it means for scripture to have authority and then how we should and should not read scripture. This center section is really the meat of the book. This is the section where I was most impressed and most convicted that the Evangelical world in general, and I in specific, do not spend enough time or effort in scripture itself. Evangelicals like to talk about scripture and we often read it, but we do not often really study and allow scripture to change us. Wright believes that while personal reading of scripture is very important, scripture needs to be the center of our corporate worship. I know my church, and many Evangelical churches, no longer have focused scripture reading. The sermons attempt to be scripture explication, but extended readings of scripture (more than 90 seconds) are just not a part of the average worship service.
The last section is entirely new to this edition of the book. Wright takes Sabbath and the idea of monogamy within marriage as models to help the reader learn how to appropriately read scripture and submit to its authority. (Longer review on my blog at bookwi.se)
    Educational
At first I thought I wasnt going to like it but I learned so much I ended up liking it a lot.
    Well done
Excellent, scholarly work. NT Wright is, as always, thoughtful in his handling of the topic at hand.
Good book, good reading, metallic sounding.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
There is a metallic sound throughout the reading.
What did you like best about this story?
    The book itself. N.T. Wright.
    Which scene was your favorite?
    I enjoyed the whole book.

    No lo que esperaba.
Me costó trabajo escucharlo.
Sencillamente Revelador ! Dios Le Bendiga Mas!

    Title: Slave
Subtitle: The Hidden Truth About Your Identity in Christ

Length: 5 hrs and 10 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-08-11
    Publisher: Thomas Nelson Publishers
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 152 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Best-selling author and pastor Dr. John MacArthur reveals one crucial word that revolutionizes what it means to follow Jesus.
Throughout the Bible, followers of Jesus are commanded to submit to Him as their King. They are told to obey and follow, faithfully and without hesitation. Every time Christians utter the word Lord, they make a subtle yet profound declaration - that God is their Master and that they belong to Him. In fact, the Bible describes believers as His slaves. They have been bought with a price and now live for Christ as a people for His own possession.
But go into most churches today, even flip through most Bible translations, and you wont see or hear the word slave anywhere. Thats because it has been lost in translation. In this gripping book, Dr. John MacArthur uses deep Bible teaching and historical evaluation to expertly uncover the one forgotten word that restores the Bibles definition of true Christian freedom.

    What I expect from MacArthur
The basic premise of the book, that the word slave is somewhat mistranslated as servant is nothing new. But it does present a good background and explanation of what slave and slavery meant back in the day the bible was written.
The book also is used as a platform for MacArthur to make the case for Calvinism and it does present the case for the concept of Calvins TULIP very well and is backed up with appropriate bible verses etc. The argument for/against Calvinism is old and interesting and certainly one that Christians can have without coming to blows. I can appreciate this books presentation on the idea.
    Narration Poor
What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?
Bottom line: I like John MacArthur as a public speaker. His written material is very good as is his public ministry. However, he is not a narrator for audio books. A good narrator makes or breaks an audio book. The material in the book was very much affected by this. I'm sure there's more good material in his book but I couldn't listen past the second chapter. I endured the first chapter. I would have been better served buying a hard-copy of the book. This should have been narrated by a pro like Grover Gardner.
John's reading of his own book was stilted and lacked the deep insightful tone of someone like Grover Gardner (I'm amazed at Gardner's ability). One might say - how can this be, after all John's reading his own book? But the reality is his style is suited for public speaking and he cannot transfer over from his public speaking style that has no doubt developed over many years. He's a gifted public speaker -- not an audio book narrator. Again, if this were narrated by Grover Gardner or someone similar I suspect I'd have gone over the book several times by now. It tried to focus on the material but the reading was painful ---- sorry John, you're a great Christian and your ministry is top-notch but.....
    What I expect from MacArthur
The basic premise of the book, that the word slave is somewhat mistranslated as servant is nothing new.

    Publisher's Summary:
It is often said, even by critical scholars who should know better, that writing in the name of another was widely accepted in antiquity. But New York Times best-selling author Bart D. Ehrman dares to call it what it was: literary forgery, a practice that was as scandalous then as itis today. In Forged, Ehrmans fresh and original research takes readers back to the ancient world, where forgeries were used as weapons by unknown authors to fend off attacks to their faith and establish their church. So, if many of the books inthe Bible were not in fact written by Jesuss inner circle - but by writers living decades later, with differing agendas in rival communities - what does that do to the authority of Scripture?
    Ehrman investigates ancient sources to:
Ehrmans fascinating story of fraud and deceit is essential reading for anyone interested in the truth about the Bible and the dubious origins of Christianitys sacred texts.
    Members Reviews:
    Faith shaking
This is a tough book to review. I have rated it highly based on the quality of the production and authorship. It is engaging and appears to be well researched. I did not enjoy this book, however, for the light it has shined on the holiest books in Christianity and the doubt it has cast on my faith.
After completing "Forged," I have to say it has had a significant impact on my faith. The direction of that impact is toward doubt. How deep and how wide the impact will be in the end remains to be seen.
If you accept Ehrman's research and conclusions, then it could make you question every word of the New Testament. "Misquoting Jesus" revealed that there are errors in the Bible. "Forged" takes that even further in saying that many of the books are not written by the men they are attributed to commonly or, in some cases, not even written in the correct century.
Every Christian's faith is different, I know, and you could simply conclude that my faith was already weak. I won't argue otherwise, but I will suggest that if you are looking for a book that will strengthen your faith in God or the Bible, then this is not the best choice.
The question I am left with is whether it's better to believe the Bible is divinely inspired and without error or to accept that man's touch has tainted it? If you choose the latter, then my experience has been that it's a slippery slope.
    A Must for Bible Studies
The first 4 chapters of this book are pretty dry stuff. They justify Ehrman's argument that the term "forgery" applies to these early Christian authors, who were writing with definite intent to impersonate the Apostles and other revered figures in Christianity.
And, I think he's right. It does make a difference that, however well-meaning and self-convinced, these authors had agendas which would have been incomprehensible to (and in many cases, contrary to the beliefs of) the people they pretended to be. It's important that we recognize the motives of scribes who were trying not only to reassure and strengthen their Christian followers in an age of persecution, but also to appease and recruit Gentiles into a religion which was becoming increasingly divided from the Jewish tradition.
Yes, there's a lot of repetition here. But this is vital stuff for Bible study.

this is a good one to listen to over and over again. Especially good if you are in a sry season and are looking for encouragement to get you moving forward.
    Loved the book!!!
Great message with a great narrator. This book helped me put things in perspective. We have to move in order to walk on water. Action is essential.
    Walking on water...Bold moves.
I truly enjoyed the contents of this book. wWalking on water requires a special movement. The author gave an inspirational journey of making a bold movement from the boat to the water.
    Excellent book
This book is both challenging and entertaining. Far too often in the self improvement genre of literature you find that there are hundreds of authors out there who take a very basic idea and stretch it into a three hundred page book that could be summarized in a page or two, without loosing any quality. Although I feel the baseline for this book is indeed simple I believe the author takes the appropriate time to make it relatable to the reader individually. I find this book to be very humorous at times as well. Which I understand is not the interested of someone who is looking to do some self repairing, but it does make the book much more engaging. It's worth the seven hours.
    Make me a walker!
Most excellent book and enjoyed the narration immensely. Ortberg's presentation is understandable and inspiring. England's voice is smooth and comforting.

    Title: The Consequences of Ideas

    Release date: 07-02-10
    Publisher: christianaudio.com
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 90 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Sproul's survey of the ongoing impact of history's most influential philosophies urges listeners to take prevailing cultural mind-sets seriously...because ideas do have consequences.
The greatest thinkers of all time are impacting us still. From public-policy decisions and current laws to world events, theology, the arts, education, and even conversations between friends, history's most influential philosophies have wrought massive consequences on nearly everything we see, think, and do. Thus it is critical for Christians to understand the ideas that are shaping them. The greater their familiarity with the streams of thought that have saturated Western culture through the ages, the greater their ability to influence this culture for Christ.
With The Consequences of Ideas, R. C. Sproul expertly leads the way for thoughtful readers. Tracing the contours of Western philosophy from the ancients to the molders of modern and postmodern thought-including Plato, Aquinas, Descartes, Kant, and Freud-Sproul proves that ideas are not just passing fads; they endure for generations to come and demand our serious attention.
    Members Reviews:
A Clear Explanation of Fundamental Philosophy
Sproule gives a luminous description of the contributions of every major philosopher in chronological order. I am familiar with the history of philosophy, but I still leaned some things and got some clarity from this book. A second volume on Catholic philosophy is also included.
    Brief, but Informative
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a good historical overview of philosophy. I wish it addressed more of the consequences, but overall, it was enjoyable.
    Great layman's intro to philosophy
Sproul's style is consistently thoughtful and concise--and occasionally humorous. As a high level fly-over of the history of philosophy and the great questions philosophers have attempted to answer, the book was a delight. I found it very helpful.
    Another reviewer wrote:
"It is an irresponsible and calculated attack on free thinking. It is laughable for anyone with even a small understanding of philosophy, but potentially damaging to a young mind in search of a rational way to look at the world around us."
Nothing in this irenic book can be construed as an attack until you get to Jean Paul Sartre, and then the historical/athropological philosophies of Marx and Freud. Even then, what Sproul offers is rational analysis and critique.
Since when is a cogent counterargument "potentially damaging" to anybody's mind? If Sproul's arguments are faulty, readers need only reject them.
"Free thought" does not dismiss anybody's ideas as "potentially damaging" and "propaganda."
I dare any reader of any age to read this "potentially damaging" book... if they think they can handle it.
    Excellent
This is the first book that I have listened to more than (3) times and I am still drawing new things from it.
    who is the intended audience?
I really appreciate sproul's work, but this book left me a little frustrated. it seems as if it is intended for the lay reader with little or no experience with philosophy, but the language is just too advanced and he glosses over some concepts too quickly for this book to be helpful for them.

    Effective book on prayer
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Maybe. I thought she spent too much time talking about why it's important to pray and not as much as she could have on how to pray.
What did you like best about this story?
Toward the end of the book, she gives a lot of examples of using the Bible to form prayers. I found that particularly helpful.
What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Ms. Gilbert has a beautiful voice that kept me engaged. She read the book in a very reverant way that was befitting the book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. This is a book you have to listen to a little at a time and think about.
    Any additional comments?
I enjoyed it, but I thought it was from more of a "charasmatic" background. This is not altogether a bad thing, but I would have preferred more about concentration tactics (how to focus).
This book will be a great addition to your library
This book will be a grat addition to your Prayer Library. You will refer to it over and over again. The many scriptural references emphasis the importance of each topic through Biblical truths.
