Loved it!

Colleen is a wonderful author who always has something fresh and new. Mystery mixed with a love story... perfect.

Boring, predictable, lame

Dont do it. Thats my advice if youre a sucker for Christmas-themed books filled with horses , romance and mystery. I made the grave mistake of listening to this turkey on audio, and it was AWFUL. The narrator was just fine up until she switched into her little kid voice. She sounded like that creepy psychic woman from Poltergeist. Im telling you, it was ridiculously bad. And then theres the plotor lack there of. Its set in Texas, but it might as well have been anywhere USA. When you set a book in Texas, you need to have a good grasp on the culture, the small town neuroticisms, the twang. Perhaps it would have done her some good to pick up a title by Larry McMurty. Aside from ignoring all things Texan, she didnt bother puzzling together a murder mystery. She threw out a couple of clues here and there, but its pretty easy to identify the killer early on. The romance (or as my fellow bloggers call it insta-love) was way too saccharine sweet. As for the leading lady, she fell flat as a pancake right from the get-go. All in all, this story is a total waste of time. Ive seen more substance in a Lifetime movie starring Tori Spelling.

My Favorite Series Loved Every Book

Where does Summer of Secrets rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

This has been my favorite series. It kept me so captivated and I could not wait for the next book. Always a new story and the narrator was fantastic. I just ordered book 6 and will watch for new ones. I hope this author does more series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Summer of Secrets?

When the long thought dead child of Miriam Lantz arrives and joins the family of her Amish sisters in the bakery. I love the characters and the bakery story lines and the relationships between the characters was so good.

What does Susan Boyce bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

I was amazed at her character voices and it kept me so interested and I just loved the characters and I found myself crying at times with the characters. I just looked for other books read by this narrator. I can't wait for more books to come out and I hope Susan does the narrator because I loved the story and she brought it to life.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Charlotte Hubbard your style is like none other that I've heard I just love your books. Keep writing. Listening to the scripture's mentioned and the way the Lord interacts with the characters lifted me so many times with my own faith. Very inspirational reading.

Sorrow to joy

Eve was a very young widow who had given up on life and love. And then she met AJ. He was younger but seems older in some of his lifeâs observations. She was drawn to him but they faced an uphill battle. Hidden secrets threatened to destroy their relationship, but God made a way. Good book.

Being a widow is so hard but when you feel you have to be strong for everyone else you can't try to live again.

Eve had the best life she knew until Dustin died. Then she was just existing. Her friends set her up with Dante but she just felt embarrassed by his attention. Then A.J. and Eve became friends. Neither one was looking for a relationship. And that is how it works sometimes.

Wonderful

This is wonderful 2nd story in this series. Eve is still dealing with the loss of Dylan, but Lisa & Jeff are trying to help. Dante is getting to pushy. But AJ is being a great friend. But there is a spark there. Is she ready.

Not easy to put down.

This book was an excellent read. It held all aspects of life in an ever moving way. You knew it should all work in the end but it was so real you could feel wjere it "could" tear apart. Princess Bride story well done!

A beautiful love story.

Liked the story because it was about firemen. A very real story about real people. Liked the way the author took the main characters down different paths before they were brought together.

If you could sum up Mail-Order Brides of the West, Book 4: Lina in three words, what would they be?

What other book might you compare Mail-Order Brides of the West, Book 4: Lina to and why?

I would say that it is a perfect prolog to Starry Montana Sky. It brings in many of those characters before that story takes place and it shows why some of the emotion of Starry is so intense with some of the characters.

Imagine leaving your family, culture, and even your religion in order to help a grieving man raise his half-Indian son in a safe and loving home. Lina is such a woman. She leaves the comfort and family of the St. Louis and goes to the little town of Sweetwater Springs, Montana where most have not even heard of minestrone! Some in Sweetwater Springs do not approve of this new bride raising a "half-breed" and they let it be known, but then, this little town does not realize what it is taking on with this beautiful, spit-fire Italian. What's more is that her husband does not realize how her love for he and his son can start the healing of a grieving heart and help it turn into another chance at love.

Debra does it again for these two interwoven series! I love the way she brings Lina into Trudy's world (previous book) and how they help grow the tapestry of Sweetwater Springs as mail order brides! I look forward seeing how the other brides will weave their lives into this community!

Love this series.

I love Lina' s story. I love how she and Adam bond so quickly. Trudy knew what she was doing having Lina marry Jonah. Each husband in the series has their own special quality that makes the reader fall in love with them too.

4 stars: For Real by Staci Stallings

Blaine juggles work, school, and taking care of his mother and brother, and on top of it all, tries to maintain a false front of cocky wealth; Melody, who maintains her own mask, is the first person to make him want to be honest.

Best bits: When we meet Blaine earlier in the series, he comes across as an arrogant rich dude--which, it turns out, is more or less his goal. Like Melody, I like him a lot more when I learn the truth about his difficult life. I love how he is drawn to the words of God in the Bible and in sermons, and finds his priorities and goals shifting. Melodyâs eating disorder is painful to watch, but seeing Blaine and AJâs concern and care for her is touching. Some very good lessons in self-image (how God and genuine friends see us is vastly more important than how we see ourselves) and honesty. Several rather good sermons in the latter half of the book.

Issues: Lots of typos and formatting errors (weird paragraph and section breaks, and thoughts, memories, and Bible verses that really should be italicized). Definitely needs some polishing. Not sure this book would stand alone very well, with it being such a continuation of stories from the previous books. Dylan is said to be 10, but in second grade--say what? Second graders are typically 7 or 8; 10-year-olds are in 4th or 5th grade. If he was held back a few years, that should be mentioned, but it doesnât seem likely, as eager as he is to learn. On the whole, he acted more like a second grader than a 10-year-old. He also is apparently a super deep sleeper, sleeping through a number of animated discussions in the car, and the whole craziness of the night his mom is found dead. There is more drinking than I am totally comfortable with, but no drunkenness from our main heros. Also, when is this supposed to be? They take online classes, but absolutely no one uses cell phones, so Iâm not sure what year/alternate universe that indicates.

For Real

I loved this story. In fact I think I liked it better than previous 2 and I loved them.

Melody was a great character. I found myself cheering for her. I could relate a lot to the struggles she was dealing with. I liked her spunkiness.

I wasn't sure what to think about Blaine when introduced to him in the second book. I was pleasantly surprised he was going to be the hero of the third book. I can't imagine how difficult his home life was with his drug addicted mom.

cute story

I really enjoyed this sequel to The Governess of Highland Hall. The story kept my interest throughout. The narrator is great with almost every aspect except her male voices. Unfortunately her male voices are all scratchy and sound like old men, and sometimes it is difficult to discern which male is speaking. However, she has a great talent with reading with excitement and the correct tones and inflections, so she is still a top narrator

I'm now moving on to book 3.

A good clean romantic novel

Loved this book! I appreciate the spiritual thread throughout the book and the lessons it teaches about the role of faith in the lives of its primary characters. The plot was well presented and I had a hard time turning off the audio.

A very enjoyable story!

The storyline, characters and morals of this story are exceptional. I enjoyed every minute of it and would highly recommend it for young adults and older.

Enjoyed the listen, glad for the changes in Kate... good ending. Disappointed in continuing story of Julia, especially the part about giving her inheritance to her fiance months before they actually married. Since that was a time when women had no legal recourse, it was foolish. If he had died before they married she would have had nothing. They should have married right away and joined their estates. Other than that, this story, focused on Kate, was a good story. Wish there was a 3rd in this series. Reader was excellent.

Loved Maggie & Carson's Adventure!

Would you consider the audio edition of Reservations for Two to be better than the print version?

Reservations for Two was a fun read. Carson and Maggie have both lost the loves of their lives but haven't given up on living life for the fullest. I loved how the author included the families. It was fun getting to know everyone and I related well with the problems Maggie faced.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Maggie was a blast! Her spirit and outlook on life is amazing. A wonderful inspiration!

What about Rosie Wolf Williamss performance did you like?

Rosie Wolf Williams has a beautiful voice and I loved how she told the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Maggie and her daughter finally talked things out it was very emotional scene for me. Also, the scene of Carson and his granddaughter.

Wonderful Christian Romance

What did you love best about Reservations for Two?

It's had to find good clean romances today. Reservations for Two was such an enjoyable read. It made me laugh and cry. Both Maggie and Carson are realistic characters with real life problems. The storyline drew me in quickly and I didn't want the book to end. I could totally relate to them and was cheering them on from the moment they met. A fun adventure for anyone who enjoys Christian romance.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Maggie's spunk. Who wouldn't love a rollerblading granny. The love she has for God and her family is evident throughout the book.

Have you listened to any of Rosie Wolf Williamss other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to any of narrator's other books but I enjoyed her performance on Reservations for Two.

I loved this audiobook!

My husband & I listen together since we retired & are together most of the time so we usually listen to mostly murder mysteries. This story is filled with adventure, love, faith, wisdom & humor. I really enjoyed it (and he admitted he did, too.) Fun to read about people near our age we can relate to. I recommend it for all.

Mixed feelings

First let me say, the story was really sweet. However, I may have missed it because the narrator was really lacking! Tried to listen with my husband on a trip but had to turn it off because of the narrator. I later bit the bullet and listened alone. I would recommend READING the book. It is worth the read!

What did you love best about A Love Undone?

The story moved at a good pace, not dragging on and it didn't seem like there was filler to get it to 10 hours long. Obviously, I don't want to spoil this book at all, but the ending was my favorite part. I've read at least 10 books by Cindy Woodsmall and this by far was the best ending. It warmed my heart.

What did you like best about this story?

Again, I loved the ending. The characters were well developed and most were quite likeable, with strong personalities. Also, Ms. Woodsmall tied up all of the loose ends by the end of the book. While many authors leave some secondary relationships hanging in the end (if it's NOT a series). Cindy made sure she tied up the loose ends with other love interests, while too many authors way too often, start secondary relationships but never let you know what happens with those relationships. She wrapped all of the relationships up into a nice, tidy bow,

What does Kate Forbes bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Kate is a good narrator. I've listened to her once before and will again. The only thing I would have changed was the pacing of her reading. It seemed a bit slow, but maybe that was by the request of the publisher or author. It may also have been a little slow because the author/publisher or producer preferred a slower pace. Kate has a pleasant voice and doesn't go overboard on the acting. Good story telling, just a tad slower. You can pop it up to 1.2 and that helps.

Overall, I would recommend this to Amish book fans.
