The serial novel concludes...
From acclaimed author Joseph Pittman comes this serialized tale of secrets, murder, and the search for the ultimate truth. Combining his appreciation for small town life as seen in his Linden Corners series with his love of mystery as evidenced by his Todd Gleason crime novels, The Original Crime is a tour-de-force of suspense fiction.
Part Three: "Redemption"
With fear holding a lock on the residents of Eckert's Landing, Matt knows a break must come soon in the Engraver case. Digging deep into lives of the families of the original victims, Matt stumbles upon an even bigger secret, one that threatens to not just expose a killer but possibly destroy his own life. As a storm rages and the Eckert River begins to flood the town, Matt comes face to face with a brutal killer - whose identity shocks him to his very core. As the flood waters rise, so too does the tension, the danger, and only one last desperate act will bring about a solution that cannot help but leave Eckert's Landing forever changed.
Don't miss the entire novel, published in three installments: "Remembrance", "Retribution", and "Redemption".
Members Reviews:
Quite the Ride.
"Matthew Clark has returned to the upstate New York village of Eckert's Landing for a family crisis, only to be dragged down a dark path of murder and suspicion." Thus it begins. The body of an unknown woman has turned up on the abandoned railroad tracks and Matt finds himself embroiled in not only this murder but a very old serial murder from the past. Could those murders from long ago and this murder somehow be linked? We travel along with Matt as he faces some old ghosts in the form of childhood friends and family and self doubts. Part Two: Retribution continues this well thought out series with a great storyline. See my previous reviews.
And now, Part Three: Redemption. This is where it gets a little more muddled. Joseph Pittman has a great story going on here and I love his characters. I find the lead character very likable and that's important to a lot of us. The other main characters are equally likable and well thought out in my opinion. I would actually like to see more of Matt Clark in other books.
There is a bit of bad news though. Unfortunately, the author goes one twist and turn too many. At first, I loved the twists which I didn't see coming and it was great, but then, the whole thing went down hill with the last uncalled for twist. At that point I'm asking "Really?" in my best sarcastic voice. Sigh. Also, one question was never answered. Who took the boy from the accident scene? Fortunately, it's not paramount to the story.
All in all though, it was a great read that I didn't want to put down and it had me hanging on for dear life. I will be looking at the author's other books.
