Members Reviews:

Because I'm a cat!

Ross Noble has appeared on tv a lot recently, bringing his own brand of quirky wit to shows such as Qi and Have I got news for you, but you haven't experienced the real depths of his warped hilariousness until you've listened to his full stage show.

His improvised digressions and audience interaction are second to none, and seemingly simple anecdotes are stretched over the length of the show and constantly referred back to and continued in funny and clever ways; you'll be sat on the edge of your seat waiting for the punch line to his revolution of air travel and his solutions to disability access, well worth the wait.

A five star listen, particularly suited to a long journey with friends!

too goofy

in terribly funny as one. comes to expect from north east Britain's best comedians, a whole new world is brought to you by the weird mind of Ross noble

Title: Black Gold

Author: Arthur Black

Narrator: Pete Larkin

Format: Unabridged

Length: 6 hrs and 10 mins

Language: English

Release date: 03-29-13

Publisher: Audible Studios

Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 1 votes

Genres: Comedy, Stand-Up & Jokes

Publisher's Summary:

The Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour is Canada's top award for humour - and nobody has won it more times than Arthur Black, who carried off his third medal in June 2006. Now, in case there is anyone left standing who still disputes Black's claim to the title of Canada's funniest man, Harbour presents the laughing proof: a retrospective of Black's best hits, high-graded from eleven previous collections stretching back over the past 20 years. The result is a landslide of laughter, a pageant of puns, a tsunami of silliness, a cornucopia of corn, in short, a bonanza of Black humour.

From pointers on the medical application of duct tape to uses for that ancient Commodore 64 stashed in the closet to people who seek immortality by naming bugs after themselves to plans for a combination gambling and fitness machine so you can lose pounds as you lose money, Black holds nothing back.

Editorial Reviews:

I love to make people merry, Canadian humorist Arthur Black announces in Black Gold. Ive written eleven books with no greater purpose in mind. As a three-time recipient of Leacock Medal, Canadas prize for humor, Black has accomplished his goal - and then some.

Black Gold collects the best rib-ticklers from Blacks earlier books. His targets include the masochism of cross-country skiing, the absurdity of computerized jogging shoes, and the joys of being bald. Black punctures the pretension and absurdity of his various subjects with both wit and comic exaggeration.

Narrator Pete Larkins wry, tongue-in-cheek delivery make these comedy-gold nuggets shine.

Members Reviews:

Got To Be Canadian, I Guess, to "Get It".

What did you like best about Black Gold? What did you like least?

Reading was well done but too many times the stories left me uninterested. It took me forever to get past the opening yawner about ski wax. Many stories had Canadian references that I just didn't get, or care about. The dog story was pretty good but dogs are kind of universal. Couldn't find it in my heart to finish this.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something not by this author.

Have you listened to any of Pete Larkins other performances before? How does this one compare?

Performance is good. Haven't heard any others but would listen to more stories from him.

Did Black Gold inspire you to do anything?

Inspired me to do my first return, if I can ever figure it out. The online return doesn't give you any other option than calling the toll free number.

Members Reviews:

Good but not his best

I've seen Djalili live a few times, but apparently not this particular show. Whilst amusing it wasn't as good as either remember or he's better in person. I was rather disappointed.

one liner genius

I had only ever encountered Tim vine on the tv show"not going out" and often take a long time choosing how to spend my monthly credits. With my favourite shows complete I was looking for another area to spend in. I am so glad I chose this as haven't laughed so much in a long time. Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 5 votes

Innit.

Recorded live (obviously) at Londons Bloomsbury Theatre following a massive sell-out tour, Chris Addison Live is a blisteringly funny experience. Although you wont actually get blisters. Thats just an expression. But you can find out for yourself why so many people think Chris Addison is the wittiest, most hilarious (not to mention sweatiest and gangliest) comedian around as he blathers on about subjects from the personal to the, yknow, not so personal in his own unique, highly entertaining, sweaty and gangly style. Daftness! Whimsy! Jokes! Lies! Smartarsery! Flapping about! All present and correct. *The street term innit here used in an attempt to attract looting youths.

Members Reviews:

not as good as on tv but still funny

Still a great laugh but I find he has such good facial expressions and a brilliant stage presence that without seeing him as in audio books its lacking something. Still really funny

I love Jethro, I have been to see him live. However this is not the first time I have bought his work to find an estimated fifty percent of his jokes repeated this I feel is a big let down and this will be the last one I purchase.
