Sequel!

Enjoyed as much as the earlier book! Sympathetic characters, twists and turns in their respective adventures and developing relationships kept my attention throughout. Some plausible modern dilemmas- wisely not gone into too much -in this book, anyway? W o uld it be too much to hope for more about Clemmy, Emily and their loved ones? I 'd really love to have Divinity's sharp, occasionally abrasive reactions to everything adding welcome seasoning again -this character set off all the others beautifully. A ripping, sensitive, funny and informative yarn!

Pure fun escape

Annie's at it again! This book/series meets my expectation for a fun, even comical, read but the engaging characters add depth. The lengths Annie went to escape the swanky resort spa made me laugh out loud. I sometimes want to smack Annie for doing stupid things that complicate her already complicated life. But she's so kind-hearted she deserves for her life to smooth out and it always does at the end. At the beginning of each chapter precise fashion notes, complete with purchase prices, add color to the charming stories.

I always love the Annie Valentine series. Carmen Reid has a wonderful sense of humor and is always entertaining.

a bit contrived.

I generally enjoy this series and it is a good get away from reality for awhile. However, I think this book was a bit contrived and reached for the outer limits for the story.

Much better!

After being thoroughly disappointed in the previous installment of LLM's latest trilogy (Creed's Honor, Connor's story) I have to say I really enjoyed this one. Brody and Carolyn were very real characters, each with their own issues, each with their own plans and dreams of how they'd like to live their life going forward. The dialogue between the two main characters was far, far better than the previous book, and there were some nice sparks between them as well. One issue I had, and this is probably just me, but the Tricia in this book was NOTHING like the Tricia in Creed's Honor. Completely different personality. Otherwise, all of LLM's trademarks were there: the requisite stray dog was present, the horses all got fed, the cows brought 'round, the main characters worked things out and everyone lived happily ever after. If you're an LLM fan, you'll like this one.

Linda Lael Miller

Has a unique writing style, her stories pack an emotional punch and are at the same time full of light and laughter, I have read many of her books and will read many more and will love each and every one.

Disappointing

I have been a fan of Lael Miller's for a while now, and have seen the quality of her books decline. This last book in the trilogy was clearly hastily written. I thought it really lacked any substance, and the story line is recycled from previous books (could have been Tate, Garrett and Austin or Logan, Dylan and Tyler). There were a few details that obviously weren't edited correctly. In the Hidden Lake scene, Brody is said to have left his cowboy hat on the horse's saddle, then it's said he sets in on his clothes. In the following scene, the story indicates he left it in the truck at the ranch house and never even had it! Come on! The use of the term "copse of trees" or "copse of cottonwood trees" is in EVERY SINGLE book I have read! I like a good romance book, and a good cowboy story, but I might have to start looking elsewhere!

Passable, but nothing great

Stevie is all set to marry her fiance, Jez, but has become increasingly uncomfortable about the impending wedding. While debating about her feelings, an old friend - Sam - (the one, as the flap reads, that got away) returns. The story also focuses on a handful of minor characters: Katy, the quintissential biological-ticking-clock, stick thin beauty; Seb, Katy's commitment-phobic boyfriend; Lara, Stevie's typecast best friend: blond, thin, and gorgeous. Both Jez and Sam seem to fall into stereotypical roles as the not-so-perfect husband and the all-too-perfect old flame.

I picked this up because it seemed like typical, contemporary romantic fare, Sophie Kinsella or Jane Green-esque. While the story was relatively enjoyable, it lacks the necessary flair to support the broody musings of the main character. Polly Williams tries to avoid some of the usual traits of fluffy romance by infusing her characters with heavier emotions, showing the darker edges of marriages and relationships, but she lacks the ability to pull it off. Her characters remain underdeveloped and her attempt to write what might be seen as more realistic fiction is undercut by picture perfect endings.

While I found myself interested enough to read until the ending, Williams would have done better to focus on one character, to develop her fully, and bring her to a not-so-fairy-tale ending, or to have written an utterly fluffy piece, without trying to delve into the psyches of her incomplete characters. Furthermore, William's writing borders on the distracting with unusual descriptions that tend to interrupt the flow of the story, rather than to create richer images.

Not a bad read, but definitely not great.

Just OK

This book was average chick lit. I liked her first book much better. I found Stevie to be annoying and a pushover. Jez was super annoying but I think that was a big part of how things turned out for them. I was hoping that Stevie would get more enraged about things but the book stayed kind of boring with her just tending to walk away from situations where she could've really "gone off". And I did not care for Sam much. I think overall the characters were too blah for my liking.

There were a lot of cliffhangers at the end of chapters that I found to be interesting to see what would happen next. That kept it a bit enticing but unfortunately I could only give it 3 stars.

Good thirty something dating and marriage story

This book delves into thirty something's and the dating, single and married world. I thought it definitely described the dating scene for thirty year olds in London and in New York. Some of the experiences that I encountered when dating in my thirty's are mirrored in this book.

A fun and frothy romp, a little predictable in places, but some great one liners and situations that draw on Harvey's TV work. A tour de force performance from Leanne Best - cracking!

Another great book by Jonathan Harvey

This is the second of Jonathan Harvey's books I've listened to and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of twists and turns, most of them fairly predictable but even then still totally engaging and enjoyable.

I loved the voices Leanne did for each of the characters, even though some of the accents left a lot to be desired! Ming was my favourite voice.

I'm looking forward to my next instalment of Jonathan Harvey's back catalogue and will be disappointed when I run out of titles!

It was not my typical read at all but after several crime thrillers I thought I would try something lighter. It reminded me of a Carla Lane sitcom.

What does Leanne Best bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?

She managed to bring the characters to life in such a way you felt You knew the family.

Come Dine with Me

This book made me realise I would be an awful counsellor as I just wanted to give them all a good slap! If my sister treated me the way Daisy did, she'd incur my wrath!

Relationships are tested as four diners and their families spend a month participating in a supper club special for a paper.

Light entertainment. Moderate story

I found the story a little predictable and the performance not as believable as i would have liked. The kind of book to listen to when you just want to relax but in my opinion, a little disappointing.

Relaxing reading

The book was pleasant and the reader had a smoothing voice. Before purchasing this audible I read some hardcopy reviews. It seemed as a thrilling reading... It wasn't. It was charming and relaxing. If you are a Londoner you will apreciate the locations.

Fun book...

Kind of a silly title for a book that was really cute. The ending was rather abrupt but it was a fun, plausible story with interesting characters. A good choice if you're looking for a really quick, lighter read.
