Same Ole Book Again

As with Blood Ties and Blood Stains this, the third book in the series begins with the reading of Andrew Slade's will. As with her sisters, Holly's mother gave her to Preacher Slade to save her life; as in Blood Stains with Maria it was her father she needed to be protected from. As in the other two books; a Slade sister flew into her old hometown full of ignorant confidence and plenty of hubris. Just as her sister's did she makes a ridiculously dumb move due to that confidence and hubris. The move that Holly makes is dumber than than any of the ones that either of his sister's made. In fact the one bright move she makes is to retreat to her hotel room for a couple of days. Then like her sister Savannah she finally has enough wisdom to recognize all of her vast limitations and asks for the help of her big bad cowboy boyfriend. Then even though she's done all that she can do in the city of her previous life she's determined to stay there rather than go home to Montana; no that would make too much sense. Indeed the only reason for her to stay in St. Louis, (or Miami or Tulsa) is to provide the killer with a convenient target. Then of course there is a dramatic confrontation, lots of overly enthusiastic compliments for each of the Slade sisters and finally of course the 'ol happily everafter for all concerned.

Still all three of them are more or less relatively pleasant listens despite a plot and events that strain credulity. All in all not a bad investment.

Exciting series

I really enjoy the depth and emotion in Sharon Sala's stories. I always look forward to the next one.

I don't think many readers would enjoy this series of books. Once you read one, you've read them all. Stories are very repetitive, and formulaic. I forced myself to finish the first book but couldn't make it through the rest.

Some parts good, some parts bad...an okay read

I found myself pretty bored throughout the first half of this book. I thought a lot of the conversations between the characters were useless and boring. Other than the idea of the story, there wasn't much going on that was very interesting. The second half picked up pretty good and I remained interested in the story til the end, with no desire to skim. The problem in this half, however, was the diminished likability of the heroine. Another reviewer explains it in detail with spoilers so I won't do so here, but I agreed with her assessment. I was appalled at the heroine's treatment of the hero at the party, and overall. My goodness, what he did to protect her, and on many occasions. What an ungrateful wretch she was. She could have been angry with him, and even untrusting, but the way she handles it made her most unlikable, and the end was not enough for redemption in my opinion. I still love the Mallorens and will continue to read these books...they just seem to be a little hit and miss, and I think a good and honest editor could do wonders.

The Yin and Yang of The Secret Wedding

The reviews for this book are an interesting dichotomy. Readers love it or hate it. If you like romps or farces with mistaken identities and disguised characters, this is the book for you. All others need not apply.

Caro makes sense in the context of the times. She has no family. Her "deceased" husband (whom she met for an hour when she was a young teen)could have named an heir who now owns all her property. A living husband would have complete control over her and her property. Yes, she is desperately concerned about money and about the character of her husband. At the masquerade, the hero and heroine are both led, through suspicion and anger, into making wild accusations. They don't fall sweetly, trustingly in love at first--or second--sight.

Jo Beverley seems to be having fun writing this trilogy. She has set it up as an intellectual challenge--three stories, each containing a plot with characters who meet for the first time at an inn; mistaken identities; witty dialog; and an animal as an integral character.

I enjoyed the first of this series more (maybe I'm a dog person rather than a cat person). There are more holes in the plot of this second volume and the French countryside of the first book makes for better vicarious touring than Yorkshire, but I'm looking forward to Thorn's story next year.

I love this series...

I definitely will read this book again as all others from this series. Every book I've red of Christina Dodd leaves me with the desire to read more of her books. The romance, the adventure, the humor, the mystery - everything is there in a perfect proportion. And Angela Dawe makes those adventures sound even better.

Must Love Author

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, if you are not a fan of author. I purchased due to Ms Dawe as the reader.

I have Natalie Ross, Thigh High, and 1 Prescott sister story, Pepper. All have a good outline, but the stories come off as such. No more for me.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

This was not worth my precious listening time, even though Ms Dawe was great reading it.

As most authors do, they reference their other stories to entice you to read them. This story explains just briefly, but not great how 3 other stories are related. This series has stand alone plots so no order is necessary.

What does Angela Dawe bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Note: you must use new 1.25x speed to get the impact the author intended.

I love Ms Dawe male and children's voices. See Julie Garwood's Sweet Talk or Tiffany Snow series.

Author has great outlines, but to step it up a notch, needs better editing. See Sandra Brown's Mean Streak, wow.

Needed a wrap up to the series

Would have liked an epilogue to the story. instead of a separate short story.

I kind of want to smack him...

The main male character in this book is so obviously stupid that I just wanted to smack him from the very beginning. He couldn't see what should have been blatantly clear and it just made the book almost painful to listen to.

A bit boring...

While the other stories int his series drew me in and captured my interest, this story was a bit tedious. The characters were boring and predictable. I honestly couldn't finish the story. Very disappointing.

Yes, it's nice to be able to sit back and picture places and people in your mind, while described by a professional reader.

There were several points of interest that are memorable.

What does Elizabeth Sastre bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

I think by listening, rather than reading it myself, it's easier to picture the surroundings, picture the different characters, etc. more clearly in ones mind. She did a good job changing her voice for the different characters.

Incredibly dull - way too much detail about horse racing and breeding scams. No character development, no romance - a great big WASTE of time and money.

All Fall Down delivers

The unique relationsip between the sisters and the persistent desire for Mel to solve the Dark Angel case leads her to the darkest time in her life. I found the book very enjoyable and entertaining.

Not that there is anything wrong with it, but

I don't want to read about it. I was shocked to be reading along and find that the author introduced lesbianism without any hint of it in the books description or in any of the reviews. It spoiled the book for me.

Not so hot

This book, setting, characters and plot are just too much like the Kay Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell. The technical aspects of the recording were good, the reader does a better than adequate job. It just wasn't worth my time, definitely not a book that will end up in my CD library.

Great listen!

This book was great to listen to and it kept me very interested. The characters were believable and once you got use to the narrators voice it was very good. She did great impressions of men, a child and her Spanish was very good. The story itself held your interest and intrigue although I did grimace at the abuse in the story although that was part of the story and I don't see how it could have been cut out. All in all the book deserves 4 1/2 stars!!

Suspenseful

This book kept me engaged with its close calls and fairly well-developed characters. The son's diabetes was integral to the story and I learned a lot about the disease. The themes of spousal abuse and obsession with revenge were credible. The love scenes were steamy but not overly explicit. The reader's voice sounds a little child-like at first, but I quickly got used to it. The only jarring note was the way any non-essential female character was made to sound like a little girl from deep Texas!

Great Book

I enjoyed this book. I thought it was well written and can appreciate the issues that diabets have.

Predictable but good

The heroine is resourceful but needs a man to help her out. The hero is afraid of committment but ends up committing. The ex is really nasty. The good guys win. Entertaining and well done, but quite predictable.

This was my introduction book to Audible and it got me hooked. I listen in my car while commuting and found it hard to not bring it in and listen at home on the weekends. Great story!

Kenner has done it again. Here's another hot and sexy couple from the world of Stark International. Though quite removed from Stark's business, Dallas and Jane are just as sizzling. Their story is taboo, uniquely intimate and fraught with dangers. And their story is addictive. You won't be able to pick up just one book so be ready to purchase all three.

A lot of sex, little plot movement

As I said in book 1, this book isnt scandalous to me as I dont consider this a true taboo romance. Therefore, all the secrecy seems shallow and motivated more at the loss of financial benefits than public outrage.

Dallas and Jane have acknowledged their feelings for each other but can only revel in their clandestine love affair in secret. At the same time, they work together to uncover the mastermind before a traumatic incident in their past. This book didnt really advance the plot that much once you take out the copious amount of sex that Dallas and Jane were having.

My interest in the plot lies in the mystery and not the romance because I didnt buy the forbidden love thing. I must admit to growing impatient while reading this book because I had hoped to have more information about the antagonist. I am hoping that book 3 will finally answer all the questions I have.

Wonderful narrators

Very, very nice narration! This is one of the best examples I've heard of how to do alternating male/female readers exactly right. In fact I'll be looking for anything else recorded by Aasne Vigesaa and James Daniels. I can definitely say I got more out of listening to this book than I did reading it.

Smoke is Mirrors

This was a good story and well written, as most of Jayne Ann Krentz's stories are. The narrators were good individually but put together they sound like they are reading a script. I liked the story so the narrators were not a showstopper.

Unabridged my arse

I started reading this book last night, but as I had to go to work today, I bought it on audible so I could keep going with the story. I decided to listen to it from the beginning because of all the reviews of the narration being so great(which it really is!). However, even though I can't remember what I read word for word, there have been three parts already that I remember reading that were NOT in the audio. Like when Leonora says "I am NOT a thief! I'm a librarian!!" The book goes on to say how embarrassed she is cause she know how stupid that sounded. The audio book skips right over that into Thomas' response of "huh. You don't say." Like I said, there's been three spots like that that I've remembered so far and I'm only in chapter one!! Who knows how many more things they're skipping that I DON'T remember. Sounds pretty stinking abridged to me.

For those who love JAK

Entertaining story and characters. 2 readers makes it more enjoyable. Standard storyline is still fun, although reminiscent of her other work.

Amazing opening to a dark & twisted dark romance series! 5 STARS

OMG, this was seriously amazing. I loved the author's voice, the story was utterly compeling and there were moments when I was so scared, but couldn't tear myself away from the book! Seriously twisted, dark, awesome! Strongly recommend. I'm already scared/excited about book 2 in this wonderful series.

Ok, I'm a little confused. I totally hated the plot for the first story (over the top n the darkside), but I felt the writing (or editing) was better than the second story although I liked that plot a lot more.

Dark and Dirty

I know I have a dark side. I know it's pretty dark. Stella Noir matches with my darkest fantasies and desires. Her work is amazing!

Billionaire with a twist of dark

I was so turned on by this book. I hated that I liked it so much because the subject matter is something I would not normally read. The hero is definitely not your average billionaire.
