I enjoyed this fast paced, intense story that mostly revolves around the two main characters, an undercover cop, John Merck, and a divorcee and recluse, Jenna McInnis. A major drug bust operation goes wrong, Merck is shot, losing blood, and needs to get medical attention. He sees a house with a light and breaks in and basically takes Jenna, hostage in her home. He doesnât tell her who he is or works for, just very basic information. It becomes a matter of who do you trust?
The plot is the interaction between Merck and Jenna. What starts out as him needing her help, but at the same time he is dominating the situation, has her taking care of him in spite of everything when he loses consciences. Jenna nurses him, even though he held a knife to her throat, put her over his knee and spanked, and she could have finally got away. The week they are together is an emotional and physical roller coaster ride. The physical and sexual attraction canât be stopped, but he knows he has to leave her, and he tells her he is married to his job.
The story has life and death moments, is an emotional battleground of good versus evil. The sexual chemistry between them is erotic and powerful. He awakens a desire that she has never openly admitted, and under his guidance, she soars. What will happen when he has to leave and return to the job? There is great character development, plenty of action, emotion, spankings, and sex scenes.
Loved this
As always this author gives us a steamy romance, albeit a little unconventional given the characters circumstances, but still sexy. I enjoyed the book from page one until the end!
Fun read
Enjoyable quirky dialog between the two main characters got me hooked on this book from the start. The storyline kept my interest and the ending was sweet and satisfactory. I liked both characters and found the snide remarks and strength of the woman unusual and well-written.

Quintessential Carolyn Faulkner story. Very strong characters burbs especially enjoyed the pace of this story and how it's ending was inevitable, the story was amazing.
Time filler
This is a quiet read for a rainy day. Filled with hope for a budding romance. The story left me wanting more.
