Excellent and Practical

I listened to Thich Nhat Hahn's words as I struggled with my fury about a personal situation. I had been angry and said and done things I felt ashemed about. As I listened compassion grew in me and a sense of both control and accountablilty. I was able to understand where the anger came from and to make sense of it. By doing so I was able to begin to 'cool the flames' as it were. I would recommend this book to anyone who has been angry and feels horrible about it. It is not a self excusing squirmiing out of responsibility but instead encourages a reflective hard look at oneself, a forgiveness and a way to start again.

Very helpful to guide to manage difficult feelings and to build better relationships. I find all his work very clear and useful.

Best book for Understanding Our Anger

Would you consider the audio edition of Anger to be better than the print version?

If we are angry person, this is a book that has to be listen to as many times we could while travelling or doing house hold works.

Not worth your time and money. Too short to be of any use or have any meaning.

Would not buy any "in a Nutshell" books after listening to this one.

Very informative, great narrator and more

This audio book neatly captures both quotes, wisdoms and the story in how Confucius developed and passed on his teachings and how they evolved throughout time. It is a great nutshell leaving me willing to learn more about Confucius, yet understanding enough to know about his teachings

Difficult to understand

The narrator/author's english is difficult to understand and much of the book is in chinese.

Big sells pitch

Information was far and between his pitching consults, seminars and certification programs. If there was more info I can't say because I couldn't finish it.

author should not narrate the book

very hard to understand. tough to get anything out of the book when it takes so much effort understand the author.

interesting but ultimately bogus

Sounds sincere and full of interest and knowledge of the Tao for a while . Then comes the pitch . Spend money on what the author has to sell . Supposedly the Buddah taught that spiritual teachings should not be sold . Even if you amend this to modern times , this guy goes too far . Also it's extremely repetitive .

Mind numbing

This is a horrible over-hyped book. It is just one advertisment for other "audio books" of the author. It consists of a bad Mandarin instruction narrated/translation by someone with horrible english pronunciation. Perhaps, it could be listenable with another reader.....truly boring.

Interesting take with a lot of Buddhist info

I admit that sometimes I get annoyed with Buddhism's fascination with riddle questions that may or may not have an answer. I'm too lazy to research if these questions actually started with Buddha, or if it came about as a result of people making a religion and trying to come up with something of their own to add to it.

As soon as those riddle stories started showing up in the narrative, I remembered how annoyed I got with them all over again. So, while I did learn something, the addition of Buddhist religious mind-bender stories made me feel less enthusiastic about listening to and caring about what this researcher had to share.

Concise

Quite fulfilling considering its length. More books should say as much in so few words. Every "Buddhist" should read and consider what is being said here.

A scholarly presentation

The professor knows what he's talking about, this presentation is lucid and very objective, although I wish he could work on his Chinese Pronunciation, since this is a lecture, I can't blame the narrator, but still it is interesting.

Over promise, under delivery

This is an ambitious project, which is unfortunately undelivered I my view. The descriptions were over-simplistic and they were accompanied with shallow explanations and examples that overall the lecturer did not do justice to this extraordinarily profound and complex subject. Also, being as a professor of Eastern religious study, the lecturer's inability to properly pronounce some of the key concepts is just shocking. Surely one of his Chinese or Japanese-speaking undergrads could have given him a lesson or two around the recording time.

Having listened a dozen of books in this Modern Scholar collection and generally satisfied with overall quality and value of these books, I have to say that this one is probably the most disappointing one.

Two stars for the effort.

Good listen

Overall the book did a great job of bringing me the understanding I hoped for on eastern religion. Close to the end of the book the author seemed to loose some objectivity and slid into a more Judea/Christian thought pattern. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about eastern religions. One might want to chop listening time into small pieces, the material can seem to run together if you are not on your toes.

Would you consider the audio edition of Naalvar to be better than the print version?

This audio book is great, lot of info was provided about nalvar, this is my first audio book and definitely a remarkable one.

Interlacing Musical Songs Give Excellent Impact

Where does Naalvar rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

This book is full of song compositions - that is how it has to be for this title & content.

In this audio version, a listener can get the full impact as the songs are rendered in musical form by specialists (Oothuvar) - exactly as it is always rendered in Shiva temple.

Hence reading a printed book of this same would be incomplete without those musical songs.

However, those compositions are matchless wisdom and hence it ALSO requires reading.

So, this title is so unique that

1. Only reading a printed book will not give you the impact & feel.

2. Only listening to this audio book will not make you an expert on the song compositions

What did you like best about this story?

Aptly, the content is beyond the biographical details of these reverent saints.

Their contribution of tamil song compositions about Shaivam (Spirituality) were interlaced very well.

Which character as performed by Vidhya Chariputra was your favorite?

Narration style is good. Narration - Delivery, Speed, Tone, Spacing, Consistency in voice level were perfect to enjoy the flow as well as to digest.

Recently I heard many versions of discourse on the same topic rendered by various other experts. But almost all of those had narration problem (sudden high pitch, etc). So I could appreciate Vidhya Chariputra's effort.
