Possibly the most unbelievable and borning book I have listened to, such a beautiful title and I thought I was on to a winner, unfortunately it didnt live up to expections. Such a shame as I love stories about the Vikings. Not believeable at all. Although story teller is ok

Only ok

Mysteries are hard to construct. This one has some definite high spots; brilliant but deaf hero and Aunt Eleanor who is a marvelous amateur detective among the better aspects.

I had the strong impression that the author had the basic storyline in mind and then she forced characters and events into that storyline. It felt choppy, swung a bit wild, and lacked consistency. I was particularly jarred by the over-the-top lifelong hatred exhibited by Edmund who then had an overnight inexplicable change of heart. It felt as if the author just needed that to happen so it did. Nothing in his earlier character development or plot forecast this. Because so many characters (and there were far too many characters) seemed "off," I had trouble engaging. I did not accept the circumstance of the beloved deaf son of a rich earl going to the Conservatory (asylum) and then basically abandoned and not checked on by a caring family who supposedly were disappointed that the 8 year old didn't write to them. Ridiculous but necessary to force the plot along. Also, the constant shifting references to the 7th earl, 8th earl, two live brothers who might become the next earl plus the changes in their names within the story is uncomfortable to deal with. The flow and believability were struggling in this book unlike the first in this series. I did not believe in the final wrap up either. I like real people and believable villians.

Disappointed because I was looking forward to following this series. I gave the first one 5 stars. This probably deserves 2.

Great Historical Western Romance

I have always thought of Pride and Prejudice romance books being set in England and of slightly earlier times. This book is primarily set in Oregon and in mid-late 1800's. I loved it! The author was new to me, but I've listened to the narrator before. I really thought that Wendy Rich Stetson was able to bring so much emotion to the characters she performed. I thought it was awesome how she could change her voice for the various characters. This book is full of so many emotions from embarrassment, disdain, heartbreak, redemption, and satisfaction. The author was able to write some of the characters as so endearing , while others were vile. I thought she did a great job with the dynamics and was able to write such a lovely story. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I was provided with this review copy audiobook at my request for no charge and have voluntarily written this review. I will most definitely look for more books by both the author and narrator as they are so talented. This is a standalone listen.

Well that`s certainly a PP variation

Ok, this was my first PP variation located in the USA.

It did take me a moment to wrap my head around the storyline, but honestly once I did I really enjoyed it. Elizabeth is by far my favourite character in any book I`ve read, she is smart, strong and my lord funny.

This was my first book narrated by Wendy Rich Stetson, and I really enjoyed her in the book immensely.

The story starts out a bit slow as you get to know the characters. As the ladies arrive to meet the men Elizabeth has a bit of mishap and Darcy instantly judges her. For the woman he is to marry he treats her really badly. Enough so that you really don't like him in that part of the book. But as mishaps go another one happens soon after their wedding, causing them to be thrown in quite the awkward situation. Which gives them the proper time to get to know and respect one another.

Like is not as easy as it is on the movies.

Loved the series and was really involved in each character. Great book the 5 series of books just picked up and carried me on the adventure and troubles that the family endured. What a life it must have been and hardships that bestowed each family generation. Oh life was hard back then, With no backup of welfare government programs to help out. It was a real life struggle to make it day to day. Makes a person glad that times are better and we all have hope. But it also can change. What a read, just buy the books and take an adventure in times past.

Nice story!

This was a very interesting book. You get to know how the Irish families lived and survived during the difficult years of the great Potato Famine. The author wrote beautifully of the hard times the families had to conquer.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed reading part 2 of pocket full of shells. When reading this book I was really surprised by the history that was included . I would very much recommend this family saga. Left me wanting more.

This book & all the others in the series. The sad plight of the Irish people in their struggle for survival should be be told & re-told so as not to be forgotten.

I am loving this series. I am living the characters' lives and finding it tough. I am now reading the 4th book and NOT looking forward to the end of the series in book 5 because I love these people.

I absolutely couldn't put this down! It was very well written and very descriptive as well. This is my first book by this author and I am happy and proud to say I'm truly a fan. Beautiful Dialogue

This novella begins in the aftermath of a failed attack, with Elizabeth bent over the battered body of her attacker and bruises just forming on her skin. Darcy and Bingley are the first to witness the scene, and Elizabeth clutches at Darcy as her only refuge. His arms and muttered words are the only things holding her together. Darcy and Mr. Bennet quickly plan to take Elizabeth to safety as Meryton revolts at the news of the attack.

While the subject matter may be disturbing, I thought the novella was beautifully written and handled the situation delicately. This version of Darcy, tender, caring, and articulate, was a pleasure. Our poor Lizzy is missing most of her archness due to the attack, but we still witness her strength of character.

As a novella, there's not much time for an intricate plot, but the author makes up for it with beautiful dialogue. And Stevie Zimmerman handles the narration effortlessly, her low pitch for Darcy is absolute perfection. I'm looking forward to Christie Capps' next release.

This is a beautifully written story of survival and recovery. Elizabeth learns how to become strong again, and Darcy is a tower of strength. Mrs. Carr is a very interesting, original characters who guides Elizabeth on her path. The ending is heartwarming.

When I want to read about romance and be surrounded by beautiful language I turn to Jane Austin. There is no violence in Jane Austin. This book just strays too far from what I expected. I stopped listening after the first 10 minutes.

OK book and terrible narration..

This could have been a much better book with a different narrator. Every word she read was way too bubbly. It didnt matter how serious the subject was the narrator was happy and bubbly. And her mens voices were terrible, since they sounded just like women.

It was a decent storyline and mostly I enjoyed it. Even though the time travel didnt happen until about 60%, so that was somewhat of a bummer.

Colin was a time traveling protector and Ellie and Gwen stumbled on the path in the woods behind Reillys house that led them to 1481, and Colins distant family that he had to protect.

There was NO sex in this book, not even a thought of it, and no swearing. It was definitely G-rated, so I cant see myself reading anything else from this author. Too YA/teen for me.

Love the this series!!!!

I am completely in love with these audible books... between the story line all the way to the narrater... I could listen to all of them over & over.... I sure hope there is more to come. If so... I can't wait.

happy but abrupt ending that does not satisfy

I want to rewrite the ending so that Collin gets a little of Ellie' s ire over what he put her through. For instance when he delivers her an anonymous gift of a painting, thus reinserting himself in her life after she has started to reclaim it, I feel she should have spectacularly rebuffed him. He needed to work for it and realize that he repeatedly and selfishly hurt an already damaged woman with no explanation.

If the author is true to her style, she will portray them in the next book as happily in love. There would be major trust issues with a once hurt modern woman in this relationship.

P&P Variation with Mystery ;-)

I didn't start with book one in this series and I don't think I absolutely had to. But, now that I finished book 2 I'm definitely going to get book 1 to see what I've missed. I'm also going to check out other books the author has written. :-)

This is a well written and delightful romantic mystery. The characters are written with respect to the original (P&P) book. The story kept my attention throughout and the mystery did not disappoint. As always, Nancy Peterson narrates beautifully. Her narration is always a treat to my ears.

What Else Could Go Wrong?

After clearing his name of Wickham's murder in the first novel, Darcy and Elizabeth still have a long way to go before their happily ever after. The story begins with Mrs. Bennett and her five daughters shopping in Meryton. Lizzy meets Darcy as he enters the town, and perpetual matchmaker Mrs. Bennett convinces Darcy to escort Lizzy home. Lizzy hasn't seen Darcy in over two weeks and things are still uncertain between them. While Lizzy hasn't allowed herself to give her whole heart to Darcy, she has given him permission to court her. Darcy walks her home, and their wonderful flirtation over books gives him hope.

Returning to Meryton, Darcy and Col Fitzwilliam are dismayed to see Lady Catherine de Bourgh and Anne arrive to stay at the local inn. Anne is overtaken by a shocking illness, and the family struggles to keep it quiet. During the militia's parade a few days later, Elizabeth discovers the body of a person very dear to her. Overwhelmed with grief, she determines to find the murderer and bring them to justice.

Rather than being a rehash of the same events from the original Pride and Prejudice, this is a completely fresh plot.

World war 2 story about the war work at home

Enjoyed the faith of the ones in the story and how they called on God for help in their trials and the work they did

Canteen Dreams

Canteen Dreams is a sweet historical romance set during the World War II time period. I found it to be an enjoyable listen.

light and sweet but predictable

This Pearl Harbor era story by Cara Putman captured the fear and uncertainty that came with news of the attack. It painted a good picture of the patriotism, enthusiasm, courage, and even jealousy of those on the home front. I found myself contemplating aspects of the war that I hadnt thought as much about prior to listening to this book so I felt like I learned from it.

Canteen Dreams was a sweet romance amid the turmoil of the war. While I found it predictable, this story was still enjoyable although honestly, through most of the book I found myself wanting to slap Willard. He was kind of jerkish and self-absorbed.

If you want a war time story but still want a light book, this would be a good option. Id compare it with whipped cream in a can airy and sweet, and you know what youre getting.

Laural Merlington did a good job with the recording she struck me as sounding like a woman looking back at the war, telling the story.

War, but life must go on!

I liked the theme of the story but it seemed to drag to the end. It was like finally we arrived! The voice of the main male character was disconcerting, but I can't tell you why. All the other voices we're ok. Since my favorite genre is "Noir Mysteries" it may be a reason for looking for more?
