Favorite HR of the year!!

Would you listen to No Mistress of Mine again? Why?

Absolutely. I enjoyed every minute of this audiobook.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Denys was the perfect hero. It was a welcome change to read about a character who didn't have any issues with his family, nor they with him. When he was jilted by the woman he loved at the age of 24, he threw himself into his role as the successor to his father's title. When the woman, Lola, returned many years later, the struggle within himself to keep her at arms length because of what she had done, as well as to keep peace with his family, was quite believable.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Susan Ericksen is an autobuy for me. I've read a few of Laura Lee Guhrke's books and they were just okay; however, as soon as I noted that Ms. Ericksen was narrating this one, I bought it without even reading the blurb. In my opinion, this is her best narration to date, surpassing my long-time favorite, The House of Rohan series by Anne Stuart.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were several scenes that had me tearing up, especially the incident that occurred at the end.

Any additional comments?

I've read several negative reviews that focused on the unbelievable relationship between a titled gentleman of the ton and an actress; however, the story took place in the late 1890's - not Regency England of the earlier part of the century. In 80 years, society's rules had to relax somewhat, didn't they? Even so, I thought the author did an excellent job with the struggles that Denys and Lola had - both internally and together. The HEA they fought so hard for was perfect!

Narrator saved it.

What did you love best about No Mistress of Mine?

The narrator is this book's only saving grace!

Would you ever listen to anything by Laura Lee Guhrke again?

Maybe, but I'll certainly pay more attention to the other reviews. I normally get annoyed with interruptions when I'm listening to a book, but I found myself wearing my EarPods without ever having returned to listening.

Disappointing

I found this so disappointing. I loved the first two books. This is completely different. I enjoyed Ellie in the previous books but she acted completely against her nature in this book.

Nick was an arse! I hated how he acted. It was just disturbing and rude.

I forced myself to finish it. It actually got better with the fireworks. I have something to say about the villain but I can't without it being a spoiler.

I was hoping to learn more about how Amelia and Malcolm were doing other than "they stayed in Scotland."

The narration was quite good; the book's major redeeming factor. I have the next book but after this one I have to reconsider listening to it.

Excellent

I loved each story. Book 1 was about Moira and Pryor who meet under unusual circumstances. He was expecting a mail order bride, she was expecting to make good on her claim. They both got more than they expected in the bargain and helped to create a community for New Hope.

Book 2 is the continuation of the story. We met Nathaniel in Book 1 and he is expecting his mail order bride now. But she is not what he expected and has some secrets that appear to derail the marriage but are actually a foundation for it. There is a language barrier thrown in as well. This was another fun listen. Katia gets all that she hoped for and more in this deal and Nate gets the love of his life. The angst is so funny in this one. i loved that Gretchen found love in this one also.

Book 3 is a story of love rising out of the ashes of tragedy. Anna Mae is the love of Wyatt's life and holds him prisoner even though she is dead.

Narration was terrible

I did not realize this was a novella, so would not have used a whole credit for sure. This was the end of a 9 book series and they changed the narrator!!! It was awful from beginning to end. AND, she mis-pronounced the name of one of the main characters the entire way through -- in the NINTH book! I have no idea how this is possible. Where were the other people who worked in this project? I am sad for this author; she deserves so much better. I have never written a review before, but could not let this slide. I am very disappointed.

Great story

I really enjoyed listening to this. I haven't read/listened to any of the other books in this series, but that didn't seem to take away from my enjoyment. It was easy to listen to and I liked the narration. I would recommend this to anyone who likes Scottish historical romances.

Best so far

I have read three of the four books in this series and liked them all but this one I loved. Mary Balogh's romances are not full of angst but just full of love and other deep emotions, which makes the characters very appealing and the books easy to enjoy.

Great listen!

Very enjoyable, sweet, intriguing, and passionate . Most importantly more realistic than many historical romances. I definitely recommend. Well written and as always love the narrator.

A nice twist. Easy reading perfect for relaxation. Perfect for those of us who still believe in simple love.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A DIFFERENT NARRATOR! What a horrible nasal-y voice this narrator has! I admit that I listened to the preview and was not happy with the voice, but I thought I would give the book a chance anyway. I love the Hallmark Movie of the same title. Looked forward to hearing this....but cannot stand it. I will return it.

Terrible Narrator!

What did you like best about The Magic of Ordinary Days? What did you like least?

The story is interesting, absorbing, and quite good. However, the narration was so poor that it detracted from the story and the listening experience. I almost quit listening at the beginning because I found the narrator's voice and inflection so very annoying and had an initial thought of 'you've got to be kidding me!'. I kept on because of the excellent story line. I would recommend the printed version of this book over the audio version.

Would you be willing to try another one of Justine Eyres performances?

Absolutely not!

Lovely romance

A lovely romantic story. There is one glaring problem, however. Livey, the main character, is rather unsympathetic ( for me, at least ) and her abrupt change of character and feelings toward Ray is changes the story's dynamic. Yes, I wanted her to appreciate his kindness, but there is no explanation or revelation on how she comes to change her attitude. The lovely narration by Justine Eyre was PERFECT for the story.

Slow-growing tale of love in imperfect circumstances

I watched the movie based on this book years ago and snatched up the book as soon as Amazon could get it to me. I have read it several times over, as it is a very easy read. The listen may be just as easy. I did not care for the narrator at first, especially her 'Ray' voice, but I noted about halfway through that I no longer noticed

This is my third time reading this and I love it even more. So sublime.

Entertaining

Excellent story! I enjoyed the characters ( good and bad guys) and their stories. I always enjoy a book with a good epilogue and this one did not disappoint. This is not my first Collette Cameron and will not be my last. The only negative is the narrations were sometimes a little long.

Can love bloom for Flynn and Angelina

March 1818, Angelina Ellsworth marries and discovers on her wedding night her husband is a bigamist and a slave trader.

May 1818, Flynn, Earl of Luxmore inherits his title after his father commits suicide. Flynn learns his father had gambled away everything and Flynn must release the estate, all its money and properties to the winner. However, the Duke who has won all of Flynn's family belongings says he is willing to forgive the debt if Flynn marries his niece, the pregnant, Angelina.

Although, both Flynn and Angelina are reluctant to wed they realize how much they need each other. A small flame of attraction under the skillful pen of Ms Cameron has you wishing for them to find happiness together.

A heartwarming story filled with so many road blocks but they become the fabric that binds both Flynn and Angelina together. A great romantic read.

A Western Romance..

Any additional comments?

This is a western romance mail order bride story and its about a woman (Addy) and a man (Keegan) running from their pasts while they learn to build a loving life together.

Addy's daughter, Peg, is cute and interesting to see her call a complete stranger, "daddy".

Keegan doesn't stop to asks questions, he just believes that Addy has taken advantage of him and he rides off "into of the sunset".

At one point in the story, Keegan acts like a real "so-and-so", he treats Addy and Peg horribly and the author doesn't show enough remorse afterwards.

Overall the story line was ok but the author left several questions unanswered and she could have done a little better with Keegan's actions..

* Julie Hoverson did well with the character's voices and added an extra depth to the story.

Outstanding.

Have you listened to any of Joel Froomkins other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first performance I've listened to of Joel's. He has a very nice Scottish brogue.

There are stories and then there are those rare few that touch your mind, heart and soul. This is such a story. This amazing book by Amy Jarecki left me in deep thought. It stirred me to the depths of my sole. I did not know the story of Glencoe, prior to listening to this book. This author weaves fact and fiction together beautifully. It is a history lesson come to life, with historical romance blended in for the avid romance reader. Do not pass this story by. The facts of Glencoe were well written and tugged on my heart. The fictional romance made me want jump back in time and find this man. It is that good. A must read.

A bit tedious

Although the historic portion of this book was interesting, the romance portion was tedious. it started out good enough, but too many turn of events get tiring. I realize history has many horrid realities, I don't really like to read about it for entertainment. I read romance for entertainment. If you feel the same way, this book may not be for you.

I did not feel the narrator gave Hugh a strong voice which some times made him sound floundering and indecisive. And sometimes even like an elderly man.

Wonderful story!

This is another great story by Amy! This has had a lot of research done. It was very enjoyable.

What made the experience of listening to The Fearless Highlander the most enjoyable?

I loved listening to how beautifully Joel Froomkin narrated this captivating story. It adds so much to a story when you can hear the characters speaking as they truly would have at the time, the correct pronunciation of words and how they were spoken.

What did you like best about this story?

The plot of The Fearless Highlander was closely based on truth. Ms. Jarecki did an exceptional job researching the background for this book as well as creating such memorable characters.

What does Joel Froomkin bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

This was the first time I've listened to Joel Froomkin narrate a book for audible.

Good plot

Enjoyed the story, even if it did seem excessively drawn out. Sentiments were expressed repeatedly; Ms. Landon is somewhat skilled in the art of tautology.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. I'm so glad I found this author.

Spies and romance and such....

Very fast paced, action filled. historical romantic spy story.

The heroine endured much, but fought not to be a victim. A lot of serious issues were address, such as love, honor, duty, honesty and trust, but this was done so skillfully and effortlessly you were kept engrossed in the smooth flowing of the story.

It captured my attention and interest all the way through.

the hero is worst spy ever.

Though Rosalyn Landor gives her usual brilliant performance, there's not much one can do when the plot holes are so big that a coach and four can be driven though. The hero is an awfully sloppy spy, the heroine clueless, the mystery resolved thinly. I do not recommend.

This has got to be one of my favorites of all my audiobooks and possibly the most suspenseful.
