Everyone has a story in this life and a choice to choose between good and evilâMr. Champion delivers a much needed message in todayâs time. The main Character Enoch is not only well developed he is also related to by a wide audience. Author Chayil Champion succeeds in a superb writing style that draws you in and gives the reader the ability to care about the characters and hope he makes the correct choices in life.

I absolutely loved this cautionary tale. It was thought provoking and insightful. It teaches us all how the decisions we make in life can change the entire course of our lives. It is very relatable and I feel anyone who reads it will walk away with some important lessons.

Great book for kids. Must be read to kids by parents.

Intriguing Look at Stalinist Russia

"When a man's youth has been kicked and starved out of him, it can't be put back" (208). Yuri is a teenager living in a sort-of Russia under the dictatorship of a sort-of Stalin leader, and mere survival is a challenge, physically and emotionally. Accustomed to brutally hard labor at a young age, he's then exiled to a work camp in the middle of nowhere for basically no valid reason. He realizes that he's nothing but a "cog in a vast national machine," and that his young life is worthless to the political figures for whom he suffers. I liked that this was told from the perspective of a teenager - it seemed credible and well-told. This would be an interesting novel to pair with A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. A good read, especially for teens or adults who enjoy historical fiction or dystopian fiction.

A road well traveled

Wow. What a good story. At first it was a little tough because of the dialect in which it was written, but once I got the hang of it, it was very apparent that this is exactly the "voice" it needed to be in. Young Ronny Gentry, through no fault of his own, is taken hostage by bank robbers. After being in their company awhile he starts to turn to their way of life. Being inside his head really helps you see how sin can slowly creep into our lives without our realizing. As Ronny travels from his little boring town of Blytheville to the wicked city of Jericho, in search of his father who abandoned the family years ago, he comes across some godly people who try to redeem him. Ultimately, Ronny is faced with a huge decision on his own; whether to continue in his life of crime, or return home where it may be boring, but where his life will be put back on the right track. Read the book! You need to take this trip with him. I look forward to reading more from Steven J. Carroll.

a story with lessons

Very good read! the story holds several lessons within it. being an Okie I totally understood the dialect. The main character Ronny allows to see within the heart soul and mind of a young boy brought up on good morals and ways. my only question now is how old was Ronny at first I thought about 10 but as the story went further I believed maybe 13-14 but now i wonder if he wasnt even older can you be a little more specific to a age range?

I really enjoyed the colloquial language throughout the book; being that I'm a southern girl, it was very easy for me to follow.

It is an unplanned adventure of young Ronny and his dog along with a couple of bank robbers. As he starts to identify with them, he begins to make some wrong choices. As it turns out these outlaws know Ronny's family-abandoning father, there the longing for his father leads him further down the wrong path. In the end Ronny wants to "be a good man," and therefore goes to make amends for the wrong he had done. Lesson learned: It is better to be an honest poor man with the richness of family and clean conscience than to be a rich man thoroughly alone with never a place to rest your head.

charming story

it is so refreshing to find a book that doesn't rely on sex and violence to "sell". this book is a nice story and the lead character is interesting.
