A Silver Lining
While on the surface this novel deals with the young lives of Ella and Trey both suffering the loss of family, however it is much more. They met in grief counseling years ago as children and have grown to love each other. Ellaâs grief is renewed with the death of her grandmother.
With notes, letters, and gifts Ellaâs Grandma D touches not only Ella and Trey, but several others who thought their lives would never be what theyâd hoped.
The second part of the book reveals 365 notes left for Ella to read, one each day during the first year after Grandma D has died.
The novel delivers a heart-warming story of hope. The letters from Grandma D changes peopleâs lives and the inspiring words at the end of the book offer guidance to Ella as well as the reader. Thereâs a silver lining, even if it is only a sliver.

Ella's Rain is one of those books you think about long after you've read the last word. It's a beautiful story with so many threads and Andrews manages to weave them together effortlessly. As a result, the book is unforgettable and leads us to evaluate our lives -- how we are living and what we are giving. I especially liked the end when you learn something very special about the book you just read. It made me catch my breath. And the notes. Where do I even begin. I can't believe Andrews penned 365 notes! They are a real treasure, meant to be shared with all those you love. This book is meant for women of all ages. Great-grandmothers, grandmothers, mothers and daughters. It would make a great Mother's Day gift! I highly recommend this book and I plan to buy it in paperback for easy reference.
Amazing book!
Ella's Rain is definitely one of the best books I've ever read! So much so I ended up staying awake most of the night to read it straight through! There's not one character in the book I wouldn't love to have as a friend! I laughed and cried and rooted for each person in the book. Life isn't without sadness but through Grandma and some of the other characters too, I learned it's up to us to find the sun in the rain. The author truly gave us a gift in the book. She demonstrates faith repeatedly because there is hope page after page. Grandma's notes would be an amazing gift to give a new graduate, both high school or college. At nearly 58, each note spoke to me also. Would so love to see this book as a Hallmark movie!! Thank you Buffy Andrews!!
Wonderful Words About Life
I laughed and I cried. Buffy's words plumbed the depth of my emotions and I couldn't put this book down. As a matter of fact, I keep this book by my bedside and reread one note per day. Words about life, filled with wisdom and encouragement that every mom, grandmother, and granddaughter ought to read and ponder. Think about the legacy we could leave our children, ladies.
