    Publisher's Summary:
In the quiet Amish community of Hickory Hollow, Pennsylvania, time has stood still while cherished traditions and heartfelt beliefs have flourished. But a secret lies buried that could shatter the tranquility its inhabitants have grown to love.
When Katie Lapp stumbles upon a satin infant gown in the dusty leather trunk of her parents' attic, she knows it holds a story she must discover. Why else would her Amish mother, a plain and simple woman who embraces the Old Order laws, hide the beautiful baby dress in the attic?
On the eve of Katie's wedding to widower Bishop John, startling news staggers out of her anguished parents, and nothing prepares Katie for the devastation their confession brings. Feeling betrayed, Katie watches as the only life she has ever known begins to unravel, leaving in its wake a furrow of pain and a future of hope.
The Shunning is the first book in a trilogy that recreates the simple life of the Amish. Its themes of hope and reconciliation show us that even when we think we are far away, God's love is always present.

Easy read pulls you in enough
to feel comfortable with reading the next in the series. Ms Lewis is a fine writer. The "Christian" aspect of it is not overwhelming.
    Underwhelming
Just not for me. Story moved so slowly that I put my iPod on fast speed. The characters felt very two-dimensional to me. And the ending was very unsatisfying. I won't be reading any more of these.
    Paula from Mississippi
I enjoyed listening to this book although it was fairly predictible. When I got book 2 at the library it just was too light for me. I have no interest now in listening to the others.
    The Shunning
The Shunning brings to light a very traumatic experience for anyone living the Amish way of life who is not prepared to walk the line laid down by teachings from generation to generation. A story of love, faith and being torn between doing what is expected and being true to oneselves inner calling.
    Always enjoy Beverlys writing.
I love how she encompasses the good and the bad of the community. She does not romanticize or glorify the plain folk.

    I loved all 5 books!
What made the experience of listening to The Beloved Land the most enjoyable?
Following the characters through so many challenges - great endings
What did you like best about this story?
    The spiritual encouragement
What about Suzanne Torens performance did you like?
She does a great job with different voices and characters
    Any additional comments?
Thank you for this series. I listened to all of them and wanted more.
    Another great Janette Oke
Wonderful story weaving the lives of 2 families together. Has more characters than some of her books, and this makes for more suspense. Janette Oke is probably my favorite author! I highly recommend this book to anyone!
    Put together oddly...
I love the historical setting and truth of the times weaved into this story. The narration was excellent. Overall I rated it a a 3 though because I had such difficulty getting into the story and I never did find out what happened to Ann's baby John. Maybe that is in the next book? I stop and start a lot during my day and when trying to get back into the book it was difficult because I wouldn't know at first if it was Nicole or Ann that the narrator was discussing. There were many characters discussed and not enough background given regarding them. I didn't feel like I knew much about the characters at all until the end of the book. I might try another of her books because of the excellent narration, historical background and because the book was not trashy like some of the historical romance novels.

A Great Book Made Better By the Narrator
I really loved this audio book and I think I enjoyed it better on audio than I would have the book itself. The Narrator made it come alive. The author rambles a lot, but that just makes it sound more real. When I got in the car to go to work every morning, it felt like I was going to have another conversation with a good friend. I hated to see this one end.
    Incredible Book
This book is one of the best books I have ever "read". And the narrator is wonderful, too. You will not be disappointed with this book. I wish this author would write more. Thank you Audible for giving us the opportunity to "read" as we drive down the road.
If you don't understand poetry, don't read it.
This is an interesting book - the story rambles and skips around so much that sometimes you forget the point of where it's supposed to be going. However, we must understand that this lady is suffering through a terrible time and we are pulled into her emotional upheaval. If you can bring yourself to understand what is happening in her mind and heart, and choose to love her, you will enjoy this book. Having been through the death of a marriage, I can remember times when my thoughts were just this disjointed.
My only real complaint is that the narrator always pronounces POEM as "pome". Since the word is used every few lines, it becomes irritating. I've heard better readers.
    Unique
Jamie (the author) definately has her own unique style of writing! If you like fast-paced stories that move along...don't order this.
This tells of a woman who is writing a journal about the unfolding of a major event in her life, and how God orchestrated this to teach her to love. The woman's journaling jumps around a LOT. But it all comes together in the end.
I really enjoyed it....the creativity and uniqueness of the telling was refreshing. I just flowed along with it. I especially loved the ending, because it involved the movie "Babette's Feast," one of my favorite flicks.
So, only you can decide if it is right for you. Good luck..
    A Garden To Keep
She just tells the story. You keep waiting for some dialog between the characters but there almost none. Just the narator telling the story.

Busy Mom, Fatherless Boy, and a Prayer
This is a heartwarming story of a sweet boy, Jordan, whose father has died, and his mom, Maggie, who is an attorney, is burying herself in her work, instead of dealing with the pain and caring for the emotional needs of her precious son. Both are hurting badly, and Jordan prays . . . the answer to that prayer comes in a way that is unexpected. Karen Kingsbury is a great author and although this book is short, it is a blessing.
    Great book
This was a book that I had not read before listening to it as an audio book and it was my first audio book from Audible. I was very happy with the experience. The story is warm and inviting, Maggie's struggles easy to relate to. The only complaint I had was how short the story was.
    A Heartwarming Story!
The story was wonderful and filled with hope. A refreshing change from all of the sadness in the world today.
    kept me interested and inspired
This is a great story that warmed my heart and reminded me to pray for those who havelost loved ones
    God Does Work Miracles
What made the experience of listening to Maggie's Miracle the most enjoyable?
You could almost picture the people and scenes of the books by listening as the characters changed
What other book might you compare Maggie's Miracle to and why?
They're several of Karen Kingsburys books that would compare, because in alot of her books God works what I would call a miracle
Which character as performed by Christina Moore was your favorite?
Didn't really have a favorite, it took them all to see how powerful God is and what faith can do
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There were sad parts, there was happy parts and there were happy sad parts. If only we as adults would learn to trust God in the way the children of Karen's books do I don't think we would have all the depression and woo is me attitudes that we have these days. Anything is possible with God, we just have to have the faith, believe in what the Bible says and know that God is in control---may not always turn out the way we want---but it is what God knows we need.

Heartwarming Gift of God's Love and Mercy
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, it is all about what is really important in life, and how the faith of a little child can change us all
What did you like best about this story?
That it shows us that we adults can miss a lot of what is most important, but innocent children, take God at His word . . . and when they do, LOOK OUT, that kind of faith moves the mountains
Who was the most memorable character of Gideon's Gift and why?
    Gideon
    Any additional comments?
I listened to this book the same year that my own family suffered two terrible personal losses . . . it brought healing and joy to my soul.
    Heart Warming
I read this book last year and enjoyed it so much, thought it would be a good Christmas story to listen to this year. It's a wonderful Heart felt story about a little girl and a grouchy old man who both discover the meaning of a Christmas Miracle.
    Average
For me, the plot was too predictable, and the language just a bit too sentimental. Almost from the first couple of chapters, you knew exactly what was going to happen, and it did. Narration was good, but didn't compensate for the plot.

    Why the change in reader?
The reader on this book is terrible, I wish I knew why they deviated from using Richard Ferrrone. This reader is ruining the book for me and I can't wait for it to be over. This reader can't even pronounce the names of the characters correctly. The book itself is great as are all of this series, but I can't wait til I get to the next book and back to Richard Ferrone.
    Disappointed
I have read this book twice. In listening to it I was quite disappointed. This narrator takes a lot away from the story. He CONSTANTLY mispronounces Tsion, saying it as "tsee-on" instead of Zion.
He also mispronounces the name of others and his character accents are so distracting it is rediculous. He is such a stark contrast from the narrator of the first seven books it was hard to keep up with the story. I definately agree with one of the previous reivews that his Carpathia voice sounds like a cheap Dracula movie.
    Narrator Ruins It
The story is decent, but the narrator detracts so much from it, it is hard to focus. His Carpathia voice sounds like Count Chocula and it is annoying to constantly hear his mispronunciation of Zion. I think I'll read The Desecration because it looks like it's the same narrator!
    Awesome story, TERRIBLE NARRATION
I LOVE the Left Behind Series. I read each of the books and am now listening to each on my ipod. It is such a blessing. However, the new narrator is TERRIBLE! He is difficult to understand and reads the story too fast! Unfortunatly, I see he narrates the next book too. I guess the authors realized because on Book 10, Richard Farrone is back!! Yeah! Rating on story: 5 stars / Rating on narrator: 0
    Jaded
I have to admit that I will complete the series, but look forward to making sure I don't get involved in such a pitfall again. The narrator, Frank Whatever, is aweful! What happened to Richard Ferrone? This new guy ends every sentence in a whispery lengthening draw that is just so distracting. The difference between the last book and this book is like getting slapped in the face and getting moved from the orchestra seats to the smelly part of a theatre. Zion is now pronounced something like Tseeon and characters are now infused with bad accents...like Fortunado. Was he always from Brooklyn? I guess the marketing rush of this series got the best of its audio half too. Bad enough 1/4 of the content in the beginning of the series was a repeat of the former books. This is how NOT to do a series. The intended content takes an effort to find. Wonder what's else is in store for us.

    Great Christian Fiction
If you keep in mind that this is fiction based on the Bible you will have the right frame of reference. While a lot of the story does have ties back into the Bible it does not intend on replacing it. Its an easy place for some to "get the bug" for faith although ultimately they need to be pointed to the only true authoritative source, the Bible.
I thoroughly enjoyed the series and recommended it to many friends. Unlike the movies, I found the books well done, and well produced.
This series should have ended a long time ago
Like most people I love this series - the first 4 or so books were great but these later ones make entire story lines out of the smallest "incidents" and it's clear the author(s) are struggling to keep the series going. Armageddon isn't even a story - you could completely skip this book and still walk away from the series without having missed anything significant. I will keep listening to the end - but this book (and the last 2) have been terrible. If only they could all be as good as the first 4.
    AMAZING!!!
You can feel the conclusion is coming!! As the climax of the series revs up it leaves me rushing to the next book in the series!!! I can't stop listening to this series!
    So loving this series
I love this narrator. the story is so good. I have enjoyed the left behind series so very much

    a must read
People had been telling me for years to read this book but I never got around to it until now. I loved it and recomed it to every christian. it really makes one think.
    Redundant and sappy
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The language might have been appropriate when the book was written, but reminds me too much of a Disney movie from the 60s with it's sappy story and message.
What was most disappointing about Charles Sheldons story?
Found it too hard to keep interest with the redundancy of the message over and over.
Do you think In His Steps needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes, one that uses more realisitc and current interactions between the characters.
    food for thought
the book takes you on a journey of one church's struggle to live out 'What Would Jesus Do?' While there are several tidbits that wouldn't match up today since the book was written in the height of the temperance movement, it still provokes some good wholesome thought on how we live the gospel.
