Rainer Strecker verdoppelt das Vergnügen. Man merkt dem Sprecher an, dass er sich für Umsetzung dieser Hörbuchfassung eingesetzt hat. Er liest wie jemand, der den Roman schon zigfach gelesen hat und nicht lange überlegen muss, wie er die einzelnen Figuren anzulegen hat.

Rainer Strecker hat den Roman "Emil und die Detektive" von Erich Kästner neu eingelesen. Der in Berlin lebende Schauspieler, der auch die Romane von Cornelia Funke auf Hörbüchern liest, versteht sich ganz wunderbar darauf, das Milieu, die Figuren und die Schauplätze der Handlung lebendig werden zu lassen.

Good story, easy reading and fun!

This is the first highly readable German book I have come across. It is written for children, is actually engaging and uses an uncomplicated vocabulary that is perfect for learners of the German language. I have tried reading many different children's books as well as regular German books and this is the first book I have read where I used the dictionary less than once per page! I would recommend this book for any second or third year German student. The English version is probably also a good book for kids in elementary school.

Beware! this is only an abbreviated booklet of the original book.

I hate abbreviated versions. I have this book in 4 different printing, definitely was not interested in a booklet.

Fantastic, even in my age....

A classical and charming children book by Erich Kästner brought me back to my childhood. I first read it when I was ten - in Czech, of course. However, there is a story saying that even the English Queen Elisabeth the Second loved Kästner's booked that she read in original and which reportedly helped her master the German language. I think it is a kind of recommendation beyond any imagination.

I think the book needs to be modified to say book 5 in the audio, not book 7.

But it was a great story

The performer who read the episode about the Battle at Hackham's Heath was so good that it was hard to stop listening, William Zappa is ok, but is characterisations are not really credible. ,

Narrator acts like he's speaking to a 5 year old

I listened to this because my 12 and 14 year old step-sons have been assigned Carol Gorman for book reports. The story is good, I liked the characters and the message. It felt age appropriate. It's multi-dimensional while staying simple enough to follow along.

Unfortunately, the narrator ruined it for me. I didn't recommend it for my sons to listen to it because of the narrator. He talks like he's reading to a very young child. His voice is sing-songy and almost sounded patronizing, like he's reading a bed-time story to a 5 year old.

Entertaining and delightful

This is a funny, light-hearted tale with wonderful characters and a great story. It has its sad moments and its heart warming ones as well. I didn't want it to end. I purchased this book for my daughter and everyday we looked forward to reading a new chapter. As soon as it was available on audiobook I just had to own it and the narrator did a wonderful job. This is a story for all ages and leaves you with a smile on your face and a new respect for Charles Dickens.

It exceeded my expectations beyond what I could have possibly imagine. I also loved the people who read it made the book come to life for me.

Good Enough for a Filler

Have you listened to any of Katherine Kellgrens other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've long been a fan of Katherine Kellgren and actually chose this audiobook by doing a quick search with her name. Kellgren's renditions really soar when the narration itself has personality - either because it is spoken in character like Bloody Jack, or simply because of writing style like The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place or Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The narration in The Invisible Order is sadly not as full of forceful personality and the liveliness of Kellgren's voice suffers rather as a result. At times, the dialogue in the text can also feel forced or stilted, which prevents her from going full steam ahead with her hilariously over the top characterizations.

Any additional comments?

Overall, the story and the narration are good enough to keep one listening to find out what happens next.

old grandson who loved it. He's read the whole series

I didn't read it personally. Gave it to my 7 yr. old grandson who loved it. He's read the whole series.

A great novel for young readers!

We found the series of "Secret Agent Jack Stalwart" from Amazon because many parents recommended it. I bought one for my 6-year-old whose English is his second language and he loved it! I tried to buy from local bookstore in Taipei but we completed the whole series from Amazon. The tools that Jack uses every time and countries he goes in every book really fascinate my son! He can non-stop reading the book and finish it in an hour then read it again and again. In the last book, Jack finally found his brother Max, it is of course a happy ending.

We're glad that the commends from other parents are true, and we're happy to say it as well. Get the complete selection!

7 year old loves these books.

Excellent for boys.

We bought the series up to book 7. My eight-year-old son loves them.

Great book series for a young reader

This series is what opened up my sons eyes to enjoying reading. He is 9 now, 8 when he started reading them. He stays engaged in the stories. They do have AR quizzes for these stories so they fit his reading requirements for school and he is reading above grade level. These are AR 4+ to 5+ and he is in 3 rd grade

THE SMELLS SET MY STOMACH TALKING

EACH OF HIS WORDS SEEMED LIKE A PIECE OF FRUIT

There is no mistake that Kirby can turn a phrase. This story had a great first two chapters, but then went down hill. I agree with another reviewer in that I like stories in the ice and snow, that is what drew me to this book. I like stories within stories. A story has to be half way believable, I don't care what age it is written for. It may be even more important to be well written for our younger readers. We want them to enjoy reading and to want to discover the great writers when they get older. If you bore them as children, you may lose them for life.

Bed Closet

As this story went on, we are suppose to believe that a bunch of mean mountain warriors are going to take seriously some little girls, girlish wishes. I got really tired of hearing about the goat they killed for meat, which the little girl, had as a pet. It was okay for a while, but the subject kept coming up and coming up. I also believe a lot more could have been written about the cold weather. See Jack London.

Narrator was good

Decent historical fantasy but slow at times.

I got this book to read because I loved Kirbys Clockwork Three novel. This book was okay, its a bit slow. I did enjoy the mystery and all of the Norse mythology woven throughout though.

I listened to this on audiobook and the narrator did an excellent job. The narrator did a great job capturing emotions and giving all of the characters distinct voices.

Solveig and her siblings have been sent to winter in a hidden fortress while they wait for their father to finish up a war. Solveigs father has sent them there to keep them safe and he sends a group of Berserker warriors to help safeguard the fortress. However as winter closes in the fjord ices over and no one can go into or out of the area. The group is strapped for food and desperate for news outside the fortress. Then bad things start happening, things that could threaten their survival and are most likely caused by treachery within the group.

This story is a very slow moving mystery. Most of the story revolves around the characters trying to keep themselves busy and survive a long winter in this abandoned fortress. There are long stretches of boredom broken up by acts of treachery that threaten the survival of those in the fortress.

Solveig is the youngest daughter and not pretty, she has been told she is worthless for a long time. However, Solveig shows promise in her excellent story telling and her fathers skald, Ulrich, starts to train her. It was wonderful to watch Solveig realize her own worth and gain confidence in herself as the story progresses.

Since Solveig is an excellent storyteller much of this book is stories within a larger story. Solveig tells stories about growing up and about other people who are wintering with her in the fortress. We get to learn more about the surrounding characters through these tales.

Another Great Listen

City of Lies picks up where Museum of Thieves ended. I suspect there is going to be a third book to continue the series. The story was good but what really makes the audio book is Claudia Black's narration. She doesn't just read; she performs. Ms Black is an actor, best known for her performances in the Sci-Fi series Farscape and Stargate. She brings all her acting talent to her audio book readings making for a great listening experience. I hope we hear more narrations from her.

Wonderfully Read, a bit confusing

I enjoyed this well read story by Claudia Black,but I found the conceits of the universe tiring after a while.

Not only is there a city where for 3 to 5 days everyone has to lie , It also has random magic that turns the lies true, this is in addition the city of Jewel with its now freed and completely scared of being freed population and it's museum of thieves with its strange magic.

I think the author was going for an eclectic universe but instead it's a more muddled one.

The Story Hinges on the Characters

What made the experience of listening to Collision Course the most enjoyable?

Since we know the Titanic sinks the story hinges on the main characters and their lives before and duri9ng the voyage. The children is this story are made to have poignant personalities and difficult situations to overcome.

What other book might you compare Collision Course to and why?

There are so many Titanic stories it would be hard to hone it down to just one.

What about Michael Pages performance did you like?

He did a great job of portraying different voices

Great narrator & entertaining tween series

Narrator had a ton of voices. The 3 book series was entertaining for my 10-17 yr old kids during a road trip. And as a plus, my husband and I liked it too.

Titanic's Demise

Jack the Ripper, Sophie, and Alfie's confrontation on the ship's deck, just as it hits the iceberg and starts to take water sidetracks the beginning of the more serious concern of a sinking ship, catching them unprepared and most unaware of the dangers ahead. The variation of each character was well performed by the narration using different tones of English accents & language tones.
