Good... But Too Much Retelling of Book One

I enjoyed Morpheus Road Book 1 tremendously; therefore, I was excited to get my ears on Book 2. Unfortunately, I felt a bit cheated by just how much this book relies on re-telling events already presented in Book 1-- even if the perspective is new. In fact, shortly after I started listening, I thought to myself, "O crud! I got mixed up and somehow even managed to re-purchase the book already listened to." It was THAT familiar. To be fair, the book description does say that is is a new look at those events, but I still expected more new action. One of the aspects of the first book that drew me in was the suspense. It's hard to build suspense when the events are so familiar. It took me a long time to finish this because I kept leaving it to listen to a book whose plot I did not already know.

There ARE some new elements. The struggle between Cooper and Damon is fine, and the character Maggie was very interesting. But still, the focus on re-telling the Book 1 plot seemed to overwhelm the story. The narrator is excellent, and the book is well-written. Also, I'm sure if I hadn't listened to Book 1, I'd have been enthralled with this one. (In fact, it might be the superior of the two books.) Cooper's viewpoint is interesting, but since it is intended to follow the first book, I felt that MacHale owed us a little less Book 1 plot re-hash. I'm still planning on getting Book 3, but I will be more cautious and check more reviews, and not just get it on the strength of the first two.

I would give the performance a five rating like the others but for one small thing. around the half way point of the book it breaks of talki g about you've come to the end of the disc but not the end of the book. so really I give the performance a 4.9/5

Nice sequel

Looking forward to the next book in the series. Well thought out and well read. Some violence but not excessive.

My children love Lusa and Urujak the best. Lusa its friendly and funny and Urujak is kind.

No I have not. She does a great job with all four characters in this audio book.

This is a lovely intro to ancient Greece for younger listeners, or the whole family. The narrator is superb and this is one of the best Naxos titles for children and teens. Highly recommend this and other Naxos audios.

A 'must read' for children as well as adults!

One of the a best books I have ever read. Charlie Anne comes alive! She is a little girl you would love to have in your life and she stays with you long after you finish the book. This book should be in the library of every classroom. I encourage you to read every book written by Kimberly Newton Fusco. They are gems!

A wonderful book with a realistic storyline.. Very personal, felt a connection between myself and the main character. Excellent read for 5th grade students.

A WONDERFUL SURPRISE

Ms. Holt has a winner with this one! I've not called a book beautiful before, but that word fits this story. It's a beautiful blend of human character study, laugh-out-loud humor, grim life in pre-civil war America, and just a great idea! It's also a good reminder that all western life was not blazing guns, and Indian fighting. Wonderful!

Storytelling for those who love it

This is a story of a boy. I love stories, things that are told as though they were something that I listened to from my family, and this meets that criteria. This is a good, old fashioned story of a boy's life and growing up in America. It reminds me of Mark Twain in some aspects, as it does not dwell upon the down trodden side of life, but it does not eliminate it either.

If you like simple, southern stories then you will truly enjoy The Water Seeker.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! I've already recommend It to several people. The story, combined with Will Patton's narration, make it one of my favorite audiobooks ever.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Amos (main character) very much. But Jake is probably my favorite. He is an extrememly honest character in terms of being 'real.' He is rough and crusty, but underneath he has a simple, uncomplicated love for his son. He is a very colorful character.

What does Will Patton bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

For me, Will Patton made this book. If I were to read it, I would hear his voice on every page. I would look for more Will Patton-narrated books.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

While it was not intended to be a humorous book, the characters are at times very amusing. I did laugh out loud a few times. I also found myself experiencing extreme sadness. The writer handles human emotion extremely well.

Any additional comments?

I had the pleasure of meeting and hearing the author speak about this book recently. She shared the background for the story, which made it all the more fascinating. To read about it, go to the author's websites.

Disappointed

After reading the glowing reviews of this book I was disappointed and had to force myself to plow on to the end. In fairness, just before this book I listened to "Nightwoods" by Charles Frazier, which had a similar vibe and the same reader, and "The Water Seeker" just didn't measure up. Will Patton is, as usual, an extraordinary reader.

Very enjoyable

This was an extremely good book and wished it would continue on. I enjoyed the characters and the always EXCELLENT Will Patton reading like like he was talking to a good friend.

Just a romp

ok, maybe a bit goofy, but it's a fun listen and Hadden is such a good writer that I was willing just to enjoy.

The narration was excellent and added to the fun.

Good Book

One of the best Sifi Books That I have every read. Just love the way the narrator reads the book. Quit a good story. Would like more of the same!

Fun 4-hour Sci Fi Romp

Not as good as The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night, nor as thoughtful. And you probably can't avoid a few comparisons to Douglas Adams, but this is still good solid fun. Haddon is always good. Good narration too.

Haddon's storytelling is his forte

Would you listen to Boom! again? Why?

Definitely yes. I like Haddon's treatment of juvenile characters and his juxtaposition of their depth and the shallowness of officious adults they interact with.

What other book might you compare Boom! to and why?

The Curious Incident... Another Haddon work and still my favorite from him. It is hard not to love his young characters struggling to find answers in a complex and sometimes absurd world.

(Spoiler) The cafeteria scene in space.
