I happened to pick this up at a farmers market as a local book store was giving away their ARC's and wow I am glad I did. It is written for the teenage person but I loved it and I will forward on to my granddaughter at camp as I am sure she will also enjoy, It is funny and just so good and am glad that I found it I really like the style of writing from Lisa Greenwald. Perfect book to read and review!

Entertaining and educational, great for a car trip

Great for a long car journey and educational too. My year 2 son loved it. Some of the humour is slightly lost on children, but its included for adults anyway.

I love these books!

My son is seven years old and has been collecting rocks for years. He always talks about how he wants to be a Space Geologist when he grows up. This book presents factual information about rocks in a way that he can understand. The bright, colorful pictures keep him entertained while he reads the story of each rock. It's really cute that the information about each rock is presented from the rocks' point of view. He was so excited to get this book that he read it for over an hour when I gave it to him!

This whole series of books is great! We've actually used several of them to supplement the curriculum in our home school.

Perfect for my 6 & 8 year olds!

Absolutely phenomenal book! My 6 & 8 year old devoured Rocks & Minerals and are begging for more in the series!

The illustrations are great, Pyrite "Fool's Gold" wears a little jester hat, so it's become a game to figure out what the names might be of each character before we look. The information is precise while communicating facts in a fun way, both my Kindergartener and my Second Grader can comprehend what's they're reading but the info covers many things not taught until later in elementary school.

Can't wait to add to our collection!

Wonderful book for my 6 year old

Wonderful book for my 6 year old. Perfectly written, illustrated and informative without being too overwhelming for a child. I would say this book would be one that would take my 6 year old into middle school, as the information will grow with him as he grows. He can take the more simple information for what he needs, and then comprehend the entirety of the book as he gets older.

A must-have for little science lovers

This and all other Dan Green illustrated books are fabulous! We make a point of seeking out quality science books and these remain at the top of our list. My boys are 7 and 9 but they have been in love with Dan Green books since they were 5. As with his other titles (Biology, Physics, Astronomy and Periodic Table) this book gives a face and a personality to scientific ideas and concepts which immediately connect with a child in. The topic becomes alive and interesting and there's no better way to engage a child and make his imagination soar. My boys take these books in the car, to grandmas house, to school, everywhere.

Two stories intertwined, one about two men who hunt bears in Canada, another about a bear cub whose mother dies and who meets and follows a grizzly bear who had been injured by one of the hunters. The cub is captured and then befriended by the hunters. The injured bear, a gigantic grizzly, comes across one of the men who is trapped in a cul de sac without his rifle, but then turns away leaving the man unharmed. The event changes the man's life. Later, when the hunters' dogs trap the grizzly and the man has the chance to shoot it, he shoots the lead dog instead. When the men leave, they release the cub who initially tries to follow them, and later finds the grizzly and accompanies him to his cave when winter comes. A fabulous movie called "The Bear" was made of the book by a French director. The book's preface indicates that the story is based on a true event in the life of the author, James Oliver Curwood. The quotation above is from the preface. Curwood was at one time as popular an author of books about animals as Jack London. The book shows the author's intimate understanding and empathy with the bears, and wild animals in general.

That's One Cool Bear

Avery well written book from the bears point of view. Inspiring because it makes you see everything through the bears eyes and mind. There is never a dull moment in this book and you will not be disappointed at anytime with this book.

I loved the movie

I loved the movie, 'The Bear' which is an adaptation of this book. However, the book is much better than the movie. The story is fiction, but very realistic as James Curwood was very knowledgeable about the land and the bears.

This was a fantastic, heartwarming tale of the real wild. Very well written and also exciting, Curwood seems to have a great knowledge of nature and this landscape. The Bears are majestic and loveAble, and the human characters are sympathetic. A great adventure story and a classic novel!

Good children's book

My son loves to read these books. The author tackles hard issues and breaks them down so a child can relate, for example this one is about good self-esteem.

A nice read

Required reading for my sons class project turned out to bring us closer together. He read it twice and I read once to encourage him. Lots of current day situations he was able to relate which led to good discussion. A very nice read.

The reader loves these books

Awkward

It was a good book in general . Very quick. But The Boxcar Kids left 1 mystery unsolved : Did the the artist really paint a ghost? But I think it was to sad and adult-filled for a child [Like me]. I was disappointed. It just does not feel like a Boxcar Children Book.:[

A Puzzle

This story is about, believe it or not, the ghost of a cow named Buttercup who went missing. Guest stars include Fran, Cora, Reese, Nelson, Lottie. Not to be confused with The Mystery of the Singing Ghost, the story where Joe and Alice move into Roth House.

Good one!

I really enjoyed this one! It wasn't as mysterious as some of the others, but still enjoyable nonetheless! Worth the read!
