Title: Eating in the Light of the Moon
Subtitle: How Women Can Transform Their Relationship with Food Through Myths, Metaphors, and Storytelling
    Author: Anita A. Johnston PhD
    Narrator: Arika Rapson
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 58 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-15-16
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 92 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
Weaving a rich tapestry of multicultural myths, ancient legends, and simple folktales, Anita Johnston, PhD, inspires women to free themselves from disordered eating by discovering the metaphors that are hidden in their own life stories.
"Storytellers speak in the language of myth and metaphor," Johnston explains. "They tell us a truth that is not literal but symbolic. If we hear the stories with only the outer ear, they can seem absurd and untrue, but when listened to with the inner ear, they convey a truth that can be understood and absorbed on a deeply personal level. In this way stories help us connect with our inner world, to the natural rhythms and cycles of the earth, and to the power of our intuitive wisdom."
An immensely enjoyable book, Eating in the Light of the Moon is filled with practical exercises and profound insights. Twenty chapters explore different themes of self-discovery and empowerment on core issues such as intuition, symbolism, feelings, sexuality, and recovery.
    Critic Reviews:
"This beautifully-written book sheds new light on struggles with eating...and offers hope for all who want to be free." (Kim Chernin, author of

    Immensely helpful
I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought this book, but it has been exceptionally helpful in my recovery from my eating disorder.
    Highly Recommend!
Loved the use of story to illustrate the key ideas and concepts. Very clear explanations of why eating issues occur and specific directions on what to do about them.
the best and most useful book I read in my life
this book is like a bible for any woman trying to find herself. very well written, concise, informative and built with actually doable techniques. it's like an instructions manual and a guidebook for every woman. it was made up with explanation, causes, and solutions; not just with women and food, but for all women on earth. it definitely helped me a lot, and I will read it again and again.
    A must consume
Boom! Finished this one BEFORE people arrived for book club!! (Without having to wear headphones whilst running all my errands, thank you very much)
So much thoughts to think about this one.
This book for me was applicable to so many things that I relate with other than just my relationship with food. I recommend all women read this. Truly a thought provoking game changer.
Good insight, keep an open mind.
Although the beginning of the book seemed to take a slow start for me, I liked the different storytelling throughout. Some things are a little far fetched for me, yet other things made perfect sense.

    Title: Ah This!
    Subtitle: Talks on Zen
    Author: Osho
    Narrator: Osho
    Format: Original Recording
Length: 13 hrs and 13 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-01-16
    Publisher: Osho International
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 12 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
If you are interested in knowing how to take an inner journey, how to find your soul - read on!
In these talks, Osho introduces his audience to Zen, with its emphasis on being alert and attentive to the simplest acts of ordinary life as a way to experience meditation. Zen stories serve as starting points for several talks in the series, illuminating the nature of that rare human capacity to transcend the limits of the rational mind.
As often happens with Osho, the talks oscillate between commentaries on selected texts, in this case some beautiful anecdotes from the world of Zen, and questions from disciples and other seekers. And, as always, Osho's interest is not scholarly at all but existential: how to point us toward the "Beyondness" from which he speaks.
Although Zen tradition was certainly the one closest to his heart, Osho was independent of all traditions. In fact during the last year of his life, he talked exclusively about Zen, albeit a more relaxed, humorous form than the traditional rather rigid and disciplined monastic version.
Osho always emphasized that the real important thing was not what he was saying but the gaps, the profound silence between the words, and that one should listen to him like to the wind playing with the leaves, or like listening to music.
In this series you will come across a wide spectrum of views and questions related to the human search for higher dimensions of life. And it's certainly a beautiful finger pointing to the moon of truth beyond words and concepts. He takes us into a space from which the existential jump to meditation can happen. The moment when the eternal perfection opens up, the moment all you can say is, "Ah this!"

Fabulously Irreverent and Truly Religious At Once!
Osho was a Buddha as are the rest of us, however he had permeated the constrictions of thought and conditioning to realize his true nature!!!
Ah This and This and That
If you don't know Osho, then you are missing a real treat from a keen, insightful, meditative no-mind. These are not just talks about Zen, but on and living a happy centered way of being. Once you gasp his affective speech and Indian pronunciation of some English words, you will be well on your way of the journey into yourself and who it is that you are! Enjoy!

    Title: Nirvana: the Last Nightmare
Subtitle: Learning to Trust in Life
    Author: Osho
    Narrator: Osho
    Format: Original Recording
Length: 15 hrs and 51 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-01-16
    Publisher: Osho International
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 17 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
Nirvana has become an idealized word associated with the juxtaposition of a cult rock celebrity who died before his time and a vague new age version of Eastern religion. An altered state to be hoped for but likely unattainable, reinforcing that all too familiar uneasiness associated with never being able to have what we truly desire in life.
Osho masterfully brings this internal state of tension to the surface and, through the use of five beautiful Zen stories, examines, unravels, and reveals the meaning of nirvana. By absorbing without interpreting, making a decision without worrying if it is the right one, or surrendering to each moment, it is possible to come to a point where we simply drop through the manifestations of the ego. In that moment, living an ordinary life becomes an extraordinary delight.

The book for a new Humanity
If truly taken to heart, this book can change one's life into a blessing of the mundane to the profound. Osho has walked this path himself and claims to be no different from anyone else. Just a matter of seeing from awareness. He is the Buddha in us all, and we are the Buddhas in him!
    Distracting background sounds
This production was unfortunate. I could not concentrate on the readers voice. He spoke in soft new age tones. This annoyed me. To make matters worse his voice was drowned out by the background noise production, vaguely naturalistic sounds reminiscent of rain on the roof and birds tweets.

Subtitle: A Natural History of Mating, Marriage, and Why We Stray
    Author: Helen Fisher
    Narrator: Helen Fisher
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 12 hrs and 44 mins
    Language: English

    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 86 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
First published in 1992, Helen Fisher's Anatomy of Love quickly became a classic. Since then, Fisher has conducted pioneering brain research on lust, romantic love, and attachment; gathered data on more than 80,000 people to explain why you love who you love; and collected information on more than 30,000 men and women on sexting, hooking up, friends with benefits, and other current trends in courtship and marriage. This is a cutting-edge tour de force that traces human family life from its origins in Africa over 20 million years ago to the Internet dating sites and bedrooms of today. It's got it all: the copulatory gaze and other natural courting ploys; the who, when, where, and why of adultery; love addictions; Fisher's discovery of four broad chemically based personality styles and what each seeks in romance; the newest data on worldwide (biologically based) patterns of divorce; how and why men and women think differently; the real story of women, men, and power; the rise - and fall - of the sexual double standard; and what brain science tells us about how to make and keep a happy partnership.

    Okay book; horrible performance
How did the narrator detract from the book?
This audiobook is read by the author, Helen Fisher. Unfortunately, Dr Fisher's voice sounds like a whisper, and is very unpleasant to listen to and at times hard to understand. After listening to over a hundred audiobooks, this is actually the first time I had to abandon a title merely because of dissatisfaction with the narrator.
A refreshing look at the origins of relationships
Would you consider the audio edition of Anatomy of Love to be better than the print version?
I very much appreciated the narration by the author, and I was actually surprised to find that the author was reading rather than a professional. Her tone, inflections, and cadence added confidence to the text. I felt I was being instructed by a wise teacher who had much to tell.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the way we delved all the way back to the origins of human beings (and before) to get hints into our human relationships. I also appreciated the (all too brief) following of these relationships as they "evolved" (bad word choice that) from early humans to now. I was also taken with her well studied and presented ideas which challenged my preconceived notions, and which I found very persuasive.
I loved her use of the classic Margaret Mead quote, "I have been married three times, and none of them was a failure."
Have you listened to any of Helen Fishers other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not, but I intend to.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Please don't make a film of this book. Maybe a documentary series, but only maybe.
    Any additional comments?
My only real problem with the book was the conclusion. Throughout the book Dr. Fisher went into great detail to explain to us how the natural state of relationships including pair bonding and serial monogamy coupled with infidelity evolved over time, and how our present inclinations (acknowledged or otherwise) are based in our evolutionary past. And then at the end, she goes on to propose "slow love" as a theory to explain where relationships are going now.

An Amazing and Helpful Guide for All
MANIFESTATION THROUGH RELAXATION was an absolutely invaluable audiobook. There's much wisdom to be found here and applicable ways of practicing relaxation through contemplative prayer. That being said, this book is in no way preachy. It discusses natural vs. spiritual states of being in an easy to understand way. It also teaches that we must learn to relax. I love the teachings of NEVILLE GODDARD as well as TIM GRIMES.
In The Divine Economy", the "I am responsible for all that happens in my life" is true.
Quote from the book; "We must become the thing that we want others to be or we'll never see them be it. You're consciousness is the only true foundation in the world."
GREG ZARCONE did a fantastic job narrating this book. He made it easy to understand and he has a nice tonal quality to his voice. He was upbeat and positive which was perfect for this audiobook. I'll listen to this again. Well worth it.

    Wonderful
Any book quoting Neville is ofcourse brilliant. It reinforced my skill in feeling like I am already what I want. Also the importance of relaxing, I'm enjoying and taking advantage of feeling good and relaxed:) How can I then not give it 5 stars? hehe he and I love Neville.
    Awesome powerful book!
This powerful book is full of such great meditations and it's well spoken. I wear it at night and it relaxes my mind. it distresses my heart and helps me connect with GOD and heaven in a peaceful way. I sleep much more better..

    Excellent book
Excellent book to have a fulfilling relationship. Also to understand the difference personalities and how to work with each.
    Excited About Love
I have spent years moving too fast in relationships and this will allow me to have a set tools to properly manage the amount of time I spend determining whether I've met my match or need to keep options open.
I recommend this is for everyone, even married couples.
Great book! Great info. Didn't like the narrator.
The info Stan presents is perfect for learning how to date and about oneself. The narrator's voice inflections made it sound like he was reading to children. He would "do" the voices for people in the story,, but they didn't seem to deflect the distress or feeling that the words conveyed which felt confusing.
Good for you, if you're an anchor
I enjoyed this book because it helped me identify some communication styles that were not helping me. He introduced me to 3 styles of dating. I do think the author did make it seem like unless you're an "anchor" or dating an anchor the relationship will be difficult. Which was a bit disappointing.
    Great "read" and highly recommended
I found this book to be well researched, well written, and well delivered. I thoroughly enjoyed the information and how it was presented. I'd highly recommend this book for anyone who is dating, looking for love, or any relationship of substance.

    Title: While the City Slept
Subtitle: A Love Lost to Violence and a Young Man's Descent into Madness
    Author: Eli Sanders
    Narrator: Rene Ruiz
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 48 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-02-16
    Publisher: Penguin Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 247 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
A Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter's gripping account of one young man's path to murder - and a wake-up call for mental health care in America.
On a summer night in 2009, three lives intersected in one American neighborhood. Two people newly in love - Teresa Butz and Jennifer Hopper, who spent many years trying to find themselves and who eventually found each other - and a young man on a dangerous psychological descent: Isaiah Kalebu, age 23, the son of a distant, authoritarian father and a mother with a family history of mental illness. All three paths forever altered by a violent crime, all three stories a wake-up call to the system that failed to see the signs.
In this riveting, probing, compassionate account of a murder in Seattle, Eli Sanders, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his newspaper coverage of the crime, offers a deeply reported portrait in microcosm of the state of mental health care in this country - as well as an inspiring story of love and forgiveness. Culminating in Kalebu's dangerous slide toward violence - observed by family members, police, mental health workers, lawyers, and judges, but stopped by no one - While the City Slept is the story of a crime of opportunity and of the string of missed opportunities that made it possible. It shows what can happen when a disturbed member of society repeatedly falls through the cracks and, in the tradition of The Other Wes Moore and The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace, is an indelible, human-level story, brilliantly told, with the potential to inspire social change.

    Tragedy and hope
If you could sum up While the City Slept in three words, what would they be?
    Horrific, inspiring, and illuminating.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Not that kind of a story. All the characters are (were) real people, many of whom were likable and admirable. I could never choose a favorite in this story.
Have you listened to any of Rene Ruizs other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. But I think this narration was excellent, somehow combining compassion with a matter of fact presentation of the facts.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The insanity of the American treatment system for the mentally ill.
    Any additional comments?
This is an eye-opening, honest, and thoroughly researched investigative book relating a horrific incident of violence. Sadly, the attack on Teresa Butz and Jennifer Hopper is only one of a great many incidents of senseless violence perpetrated by crazy, enraged people who in most cases have fallen between the very wide cracks in the US mental health system. The author carefully tells the life stories of Teresa, Jennifer and their assailant, Isaiah. The author describes Isaiah's abusive upbringing and the dearth of mental health resources and laws necessary to restrain and treat him before he began performing acts of violence. The trial is described in detail, as is the verdict and its aftermath. I admire both Teresa and Jennifer hugely, as well as some of the law enforcement personnel involved in their case. I agree that the mental health system needs a major overhaul and adequate funding.

Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
Tales from the Couch is collection of actual case studies and a primer on psychopathology as well as a captivating reflection on the human condition. Drawn from Dr. Bob Wendorf's 36-year career as a clinical psychologist, the book examines the lives of some of his most troubled patients in a project that aims to both educate and fascinate the listener. Clinical syndromes are described and dramatized by real-life case examples (altered only as necessary to protect patient confidentiality). Each of the 16 chapters focuses on a particular psychiatric diagnosis, including multiple personality disorder, Asperger's, and ADD.
The clinical picture and symptoms are described and explained, then brought to life by case examples taken from the author's practice. Dr. Wendorf presents the cases as a series of narratives - some dramatic, some humorous, most quite poignant. Along the way, the author offers his own reactions to the people and events described here and application to the general human condition as well.
Tales from the Couch offers compelling stories of extraordinary people, clinical conditions, and events - both in and out of the therapy hour - while providing insights into the nature of human beings, mental illness, and the psychotherapeutic enterprise.

Only positive things to say about this Book
What made the experience of listening to Tales from the Couch the most enjoyable?

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
I took this as a text book as well as a story of expect the unexpected in my future career. The experience of this reading will have a large impact on how I see my clients as well as my future.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Multiple Personality was my favorite chapter. I think so because I have known someone that had MPD and switched between 6 or so personalities.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I found myself late to things because I did not wish to stop listening. I doubt that my professors would buy that as a reason for any late papers however.
    Any additional comments?
Fantastic book and I plan to tell my other classmates how informative and supportive it was for me.
Just amazing, will keep you riveted.
I loved this book, not only does the narrator make it easy to engage as the listener, also the writer makes it quirky and fun when you least expect and keeps you enthralled with his intense stories. This book will leave you wanting more and may convert some to the undeniably fascinating subject of psychology and the human brain.
    presumptuous and condescending
interesting at times, with potentially fascinating stories, the author's pessimism and and sarcasm are disappointing
    Better than I expected
I really enjoyed this book it was really interesting and got more interesting as it progressed. As an unexpected bonus I also self diagnosed my own disorder as a result of listening to it!
    Funny but very simplistic.
