Nick Offerman is the perfect voice for this classic story. Wonderfully done. The best audio book Ive listened to. The characters were well-performed, clear and distinct, and it was read in a comfortable and familiar way.

A look Down Memory Lane

I have good memories of my time as a teen. It has been over 60 years since I discovered this book. It showed the strengths and weaknesses of a family.

I recommend this to a teenage girl. Old language may be difficult but one could understand most of it.

I admired the character Jo. She knew herself and was Abe to make hard decisions that benefited her later in life.

This is my all time favorite book. I bought this as a Christmas present for a special little girl. She said she can't wait to read it. I told her let me know how she liked it. I'm hoping she loves it as much as I do.

A timeless classic.

I have reread this book several times. I own a hard copy, but got the download so I can carry it with me more easily. It's great for reading on a plane, or just lying in the hammock. I don't have to worry about messing up my precious book.

I never tire of the story or the characters. They are continually fresh and charming to me. I read this book first when I was in high school, 40 years ago, and have read it every couple years since. I also enjoy the movies. The more recent one is my favorite.

Good Lessons and Representation of various Personalities

I really enjoyed this book and the personalities represented. The only thing I didn't completely enjoy was the impression that I got that works are the way to heaven and the careful wording in regards to Biblical concepts, but I understand why an author may do so to keep from turning people off from the good lessons that can be drawn from this book.

Best book <3

Best book ever! LITTLE WOMEN is a classic I revisit so often I have parts of the text memorized. I loved the way it was set in the past (Civil War era) but the relationships and problems felt real, and that I could relate to them despite living in the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, etc. Jo March is a spunky girl with a good heart who doesn't always do the right thing and I think many women and men can relate to that. The writing is good enough, and never really drags but I do wish some parts had slowed downâdespite thisâa very serious favorite of mine.

Such a sad and brutal part of American History

This book reminds me of the miniseries Roots. Its heart wrenching to hear the brutality that the black race endured. The story is well written and the characters are all compelling. Every high school student should have to read it to be reminded of this history of our country so it can never be repeated.

I definitely loved listening to this book of American history. This book be in schools all over the country & Globe. Learned people have been using the term "Uncle Tom" in a horrible fashion.

Best Token I Ever Used

Great Value! The narration was incridibly vibrate and emersive into this crazy, amazing, story. 11/10

Anyone who wants to fly combat missions is crazy!

One of the joys of specifically seeking out unabridged versions of classic novels is discovering how much is lost when publishers are permitted to take an axe to a great work. I read an abridged version of Catch-22 decades ago and thought it was okay. The true madness and beauty of the work can only be fully appreciated in the multiple overlapping viewpoints of the unabridged version. While you do not have to have a military background to appreciate the insanity of the circumstances, it helps. And while an absolutely masterful satirical work, so many of the scenarios ring home so true. As a young enlisted Marine I became painfully aware of the silly games those with rank play in order to fulfill their obligation to follow orders no matter how ridiculous. Now, dealing on a daily basis with Air Force culture where people do ridiculous stuff not even knowing why they do it and never questioning it because to do so would suggest one is not a "team player," Heller perfectly captures a culture that still exists 60 years after the writing. The upshot is that a measure of insanity is natural and necessary in a business which exists only for the sake of killing with discipline. No one could be truly sane and do what needs to be done in the profession of arms, and Heller captures that truth magnificently.

Repetitive

I loved this book for about 1/3. By the half way point I couldn't do it anymore. Everyone has the same circular talking style (think: Who's on first), loves the thing they hate, and hates the thing they love.

Great Characters

An easy read with good pacing. The characters were unique and engaging. Reader was outstanding.

Fantastic little story

This is a fantastic heartwarming story that is as suitable for adults as it is for children.

Lots of lessons for all of us to learn and reflect on.

You can tell it is an old book as it is not politically correct in parts,But neither am I so that does not bother me at all.

Great Bedtime Reader

All of the Illustrated Chosen Classics are great bedtime readers. My wife sits in the hall of the children's bedrooms and reads these stories to them at bedtime. The difference between these books and the traditional novels is that these stories move very fast. My son, in particular, will hear one of these abridged classic novels and, if he likes it, will then read the full unabridged version on his own. Kind of gives our kids a taste of the classics without having to start reading a really large and sometimes overwhelming looking book. My son is 10 and my daughter is 15. We have about 30 of these types of books in our library.

A Classic Still

Like many people of my age (62), I read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as a child because at that time it was widely perceived to be a child's or young adult's book. This is unfortunate as it is not nor has it ever been directed at the young. In my rereading I discovered for the first time why it is still called the original great American novel. Huckleberry, like Twain, is opinionated and perceptive. His narration and point of view drive the novel forward. Rather than relegate this work to the children's shelves or castigate it as racist, folks should embrace this novel for what it is, a bildungsroman that shows the growth of a country as well as the growth of its young protagonist.

It captivated a classroom full of surly teens

I teach English, and the junior year in North Carolina is devoted to American literature. I approached Huck Finn with no small amount of trepidation because of Twain's use of vernacular. I ran into the same problem with "Their Eyes Were Watching God" and solved that by listening to Ruby Dee's audio recording, which students loved. I purchased this recording of Huck Finn, and it was to die for fabulous. Students read along in their books as we listened to the recording, and it helped bring the characters and the story alive for them. They laughed when I hoped they would laugh, and they understood the novel so much better by being able to listen to it. This recording was invaluable.

Reading this book as an adult is a whole different ...

Reading this book as an adult is a whole different experience. I'm fairly sure the versions I read as a child were watered down. I don't have any memory of murder and mayhem in the versions I read as a child.

Overrated

I found the book to be boring and a struggle to finish at times. One of the few times i have ever thought the movie was better than the book.

The narrator makes the slightly dry story come alive! I loved it and the voices they did.

Ruined by the narration

This shouldnt reflect on the book itself, as it was a very good book that I have read years ago, but the narrator was so monotone and gave such a lack luster performance that it was really hard to follow along. In places where he should have had some emotion or inflection in his voice it was just like an ongoing run on sentence type of reading. I got this version because of the low cost, but Id recommend one that costs a little more and with better narrator. Just my two cents.

Not an easy read but SO worth it!

Henry James's writing is not for everybody. It is incredibly dense and detailed and he deep dives into the ruminative thoughts of all the major characters at such length that for the first 1/3 of the book, you might find yourself going a little crazy, thinking WHERE IS THE PLOT?! But the book picks up in intensity after the midway mark and I literally could not stop listening. The story is deeply philosophical, about the nature of love, betrayal and just how far one would go to get what one wants - only to then have to live with the consequences. It's absolutely Shakespearian, this story. If you want to be a "well read" person, you should read at least one Henry James novel and that should be this one. Give it a chance, be patient, retrain your focus when you begin to drift, and you will be richly rewarded, in the end.

Challenging text, beautifully read

This late novel by James is full of nuance, indirectness and innuendo. It requires a highly gifted and intelligent reader to capture the subtle shades of meaning and feeling. Juliet Stevenson is superb at fathoming and expressing the inner and outer worlds of each protagonist in this complex work.

Disappointing accent

I love Juliette Stevens reading generally, but was distracted throughout Wings of the Dove by the odd accent she used for the two American characters. It sounded forced and was unconvincing.
