A must read for anyone in a relationship. When will be getting the next chapter?

What a great summer or winter read! Could not put it down and can't wait for the next chapter.

A saucy summer read! (But it could keep you warm on a winter night.)

I am new to the romance genre, but I couldn't resist a tale that put women in their fifties front and center. The novel braids the stories of five friends who love and support each other through life's inevitable rough patches. It was a delight to meet these women. The characters are well drawn, their stories compelling, and their friendship a beautiful thing to behold. Some find love. Some lose love. (And some have some amazing sex!) Put this one in your beach bag.

Don't miss this one!

This was my first venture into chick-lit, and I couldn't put it down! Five very intriguing and attractive women...and do they really talk like this when they're together? Not exactly PG rated; I learned things that the sailors hadn't taught me when I was in the Navy. Obviously, there's going to be a lot more happening to these women, so there must be sequels on the way. I can't wait!

This will resonate with you; the characters are very relatable

What a fun read! Thereâs nothing better than strong, long time friendships and this book captures that with these characters. I loved the food references, the music of our youth, the sauciness. Perfectly Seasoned .. aptly titled for women whoâve lived life, grown wiser and stronger with age and still know how to have fun. Lucky me, one of these authors is just such a friend!

A great read!

This was a great, quick read! After the second page I was hooked - I thought this was going to be a book geared more towards women, I found that it involved all sort of fascinating relationship issues that anyone can relate to. It also made me appreciate how important friends can be when you go through life's ups and downs. Although I was forced to put it down once (work got in the way), I couldn't wait to pick it up again. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for the sequel.

Título: Umami [Spanish Edition]

Autor: Laia Jufresa

Narrador: Yadira Aedo, Miguel Ángel Álvarez

Formato: Unabridged

Duración: 6 hrs and 22 mins

Idioma: Español

Fecha de publicación: 01-03-18

Editor: Audible Studios

Please note: This audiobook is in Spanish.

Forbidden love at it's darkest but sympathy abounded

This is forbidden love at it's darkest. I knew there would be discomfort going into reading it, but I was greatly surprised by the sympathy I felt for the connection between Lochlan and Maya. Lochlan is 18 and Maya a year behind, they together care for their three younger siblings. Their mother has excited the family for a new relationship but the family is desperate to remain under the social services radar and stay together. I found the narrative of this neglected family difficult reading, it pulled desperately on my mothering instincts .

Auteur: Elena Ferrante

Narrateur: Marina Moncade

Format: Unabridged

Durée: 13 hrs and 43 mins

Langue: Français

Date de publication: 09-25-17

Éditeur: Gallimard

Evaluation: 4.5 sur 5 sur 4 votes

Genres: Fiction, Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

Told with warmth and wit, I Wish You Happy explores the sometimes-dark complexity of relationships, the transformative power of friendship - and the magic of hope.

Rescuing abandoned animals is easier for Rae than attempting relationships with people. According to her therapist, she lacks a dimmer switch - her energy is either full-intensity on or off. Lately, she's been opting for off.

But the switch flips back on when Rae's car collides with a cyclist, leaving the rider fighting for her life. After discovering the crash was a suicide attempt, Rae invites the victim - emotionally and physically fragile Kat - into her home. Soon, Rae finds herself opening up, not just to friendship but also to the possibility of love with Cole, the crisis worker assigned to Kat's case.

However, Kat's pain threatens to overshadow Rae as their codependent friendship deepens. When disaster strikes again, Rae is desperate to help Kat heal, but the plan backfires, putting at risk Rae's tenuous connections and forcing her to confront the most difficult challenge of all - embracing her own happiness.

Publisher: Penguin Audio

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 8 votes

Publisher's Summary:

A group of lifetime friends gather together to confront life, love, and now mortality.

Before Everything is a celebration of friendship and love between a group of women who have known each another since they were girls. They've faced everything together, from youthful sprees and scrapes to midlife turning points. Now, as Anna, the group's trailblazer and brightest spark, enters hospice, they gather to do what they've always done - talk and laugh and help each other make choices and plans, this time in Anna's rural Massachusetts home. Helen, Anna's best friend and a celebrated painter, is about to remarry. The others face their own challenges - Caroline with her sister's mental health crisis, Molly with a teenage daughter's rebellion, Ming with her law practice - dilemmas with kids and work and love. Before Everything is as funny as it is bittersweet, as the friends revel in the hilarious mistakes they've seen each another through, the secrets kept and adventures shared. But now all sense of time has shifted, and the pattern of their lives together takes on new meaning. The novel offers a brilliant, emotionally charged portrait, deftly conveying the sweep of time over everyday lives and showing how even in difficult endings, gifts can unfold. Above all it is an ode to friendship and to how one person shapes the journeys of those around her.

Critic Reviews:

"Redel has crafted a lyrical ode to female friendship, proving that bonds can somehow be made of iron and elastic, sometimes strong and sometimes frail. She fleshes out the five main characters admirably for such a short book, linking each of their most vulnerable memories to their shared crisis. Fans of Anne Tyler and Jennifer Close will adore this warmhearted and clear-eyed novel." (Booklist)

"A touching story of friendship and loss... richly realized. The result is an unflinching and affecting look at how one woman's final days change the lives of those around her." (Publishers Weekly)

"Gorgeous, a heartbreaker, a non-stop dazzler, a major achievement.

As good as the first

Loved this story - covers a period of 20 years and the friendship of three boys. The narrative and the narration was superb.

OK follow up to Harry Quebert Affair but lacking

Any additional comments?

The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair had a bit more of a mystery about it and an interesting format. This is a good character study but isn't quite as gripping albeit well written. Try Harry Quebert first, then try this if you want a more sedate book

entertaining and light

No huge stress or darkness or depth and entertaining although probably not memorable...amusing narrator thank you

good story

probably not as good as the first but I good story and well read. I'll probably listen to it again

Well read story a good follow up from Joel Dicker

I enjoyed this book, its the second from Joel Dicker but you don't need to have read the first one to catch up. This story is well read by the narrator and was one of those audio books that i was surprised how quick I got trough it.

Publisher's Summary:

A literary jigsaw puzzle of a debut novel set in Colombia during the peak of its decades-long conflict, and in New York City.

While her parents are away, a teenager finds herself home alone, with the household staff mysteriously gone, no phone connection, and news of an insurgency on the radio - and then she hears a knock at the door. Her teacher, who has been kidnapped by guerrillas, recites Shakespeare in the jungle to a class of sticks, leaves, and stones while his captors watch his every move. Another classmate, who has fled Colombia for the clubs of New York, is unable to forget the life she left behind without the help of the little bags of powder she carries with her.

Taking place over two decades, The Lucky Ones presents us with a world in which perpetrators are indistinguishable from saviors, the truth is elusive, and loved ones can disappear without a trace. A prismatic tale of a group of characters who emerge and recede throughout the novel and touch one another's lives in ways even they cannot comprehend, The Lucky Ones captures the intensity of life in Colombia as paramilitaries, guerrillas, and drug traffickers tear the country apart. Combining vivid descriptions of life under siege with a hallucinatory feel that befits its violent world, The Lucky Ones introduces a truly original and exciting new voice in fiction.

Critic Reviews:

"An expansive tapestry of a debut." (Elle)

"Riveting.... [A] carefully yet fiercely composed collage of voices that bears witness to the executions, forced disappearances, and other atrocities that took place in Colombia from 1993 to 2013 during the country's violent civil war.... [A] searing glimpse into the conflict.... Having lived in Colombia until she turned 18, Pachico has a firsthand connection to the country's charms and troubles that shines through on every gripping page." (Publishers Weekly)

"Julianne Pachico's tough and stunning novel set in both the Colombian and New York drug jungles kept this reader up all night and made her double-check that her front door was locked tight." (Lily Tuck, National Book Award-winning author of The News from Paraguay and The Double Life of Liliane)

Members Reviews:

Nobody's Lucky...Except for the Reader

Nobody seems particularly lucky in The Lucky Ones â not the teenager who declines a country house party invitation and finds herself alone with a menacing man right outside the door, not her former eight-grade teacher who is held prisoner and pontificates on Hamlet to the sticks and leaves, not Mariela, cruelly nicknamed Fatty by her peers who now exacts revenge on troops and prisoners and certainly not her father, a big wig executive who profits from the illegal drug trade.

Its blurb calls it a âliterary jigsaw puzzleâ and indeed, thatâs what it is â interweaving stories that stand by themselves with each of them playing a crucial role in creating a satisfying whole. Populated by privileged schoolgirls and their teachers, housekeepers, squadrons of self-dubbed revolutionaries, and even anthropomorphic drug-addicted rabbits, we get to explore the intersecting lives of those in Cali during the prime years of the conflict there.

A minor character suddenly appears in a major role in another chapter or a major character becomes a sidekick.
