Intriguing

Set in Amsterdam in the 1600's, a time of harsh social justice. Newly married 18 year old Nella arrives in the city from the country to find herself part of a very unusual household.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

Unfulfilling

The story sounded boring from the summaries I read before purchasing the book. It's my book club June choice so I got it. The book is better than I had anticipated and surprisingly flowed well. Overall it feels inconclusive. Hence unfulfilling.

fantastic book well read

Such an imaginative and compellingnovel. It had me hooked from the very start and invested in every single one of the characters. Loved it.

Ludicrous

Loved part one, then slowly became disillusioned as the storyline became more and more unbelievable. in the end, it was so irritating. I DID finish it, but I had invested time in it.

I don't believe the emotions this girl had at the end. Too much was not believable as being set in 1687. No, I wouldn't recommend it. Too many adjectives as well!

What a fun book!

I loved this book. The girls became best friends at 11 years old-living two doors apart -running back and forth- inseparable. In the house between them was an older single woman who was their friend and surrogate mother Also a love story with the older brother and years of separation upon college graduation.

Not very good.

I had to force myself to finish it. I don't recommend this one. It didn't pull me in.

I Love Samantha Young, but this is a miss for me

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend the first book in this series but would probably skip this follow up book. The story alternates between past and present day, which can work in some books, but in this case, it is the very near past vs. present, and I think it becomes somewhat confusing (particularly if you do not have the opportunity to listen to the book in a single setting). I also did not particularly like the narrator for this book (it felt more like someone was reading the book to me than "narrating" the book). In fairness, I did not have much difficulty with the same narrator in the first book. Perhaps, the story overall in the first book was so good that I did not notice a somewhat generic "reading" feeling that permeated this book. Again, I would rate Samantha Young's books amongst some of my all time favorites (I LOVED the Dublin Street books), and I will likely continue to read every book that she writes - for the angst, compelling story, sizzling romance and fantastic characterization. However, while this book has some moments of that brilliance, it did not deliver the overall experience of her other books.

Very slow. Skipping chapters. The narration was poor. At the end of each sentence her enunciation was weird.

Not as amazing as the first

The first book in the series was fantastic, this one however fell a little flat. This book added unnecessary drama as well as took far too long to get to the problems at hand. The best parts of this book were Claudia and Becks story. Seeing them grow and make decisions about each other was less tedious and more interesting than watching Charlie and Jake continue to hurt one another.

Jake held on for much longer than any person typically would. I loved him still in this book he tried to be everything Charlie could need. Charlie frustrated me with her savior complex. She took so long to make a move to take back any responsibility of her life.

I am happy about the end but it did not need to take so long getting there.

The CHOICE!! Redemption or Damnation ??

This book tells the story of Stan and his path toward redemption or everlasting damnation. The fact is, he may not have the luxury of choice. Has his choice been already preordained? Does my rating of this book make a dent in whether the next person reads this book based on my review. I'd like to "think so", but in fact it probably doesn't.

The storyline kept me turning pages wondering the outcome of Stan's fate. In the end, I'm given the choice of what I believe is the result. I'm given the choice, redemption or damnation for Stan.

Read this well written story and judge for yourself.

Just "Wow".

Possibly the best debut novel I've ever read. The story is a fresh take on the classic good vs. evil, love conquers all tale. A concept that's been done to death, but rarely done this well. The author has created an unforgettable cast of characters and a thought provoking scenario. It's a short novel, but that's mostly due to the authors ability to economize words without sacrificing content. Kudos! I want more.

The emotions and weight of the issues in the book. I really felt connected to the characters and felt their pain and triumphs.

Who was the most memorable character of Watch Over Me and why?

Addison's decisions and pain is felt but also how she comforts her issues. I love how she beautifully deals with life even though she's hurting and healing, this story was very comforting and truly tell it came from the heart.

Review: Watch Over Me, by Tara Sivec

Its been quite a long time since a book has blown me away like Watch Over Me has done. Im a big fan of Tara Sivecs writing, but before now, Ive only read her comedy and (meant in the nicest way) borderline obnoxious use of crude language. Last year I tackled her Chocolate Lovers series. Theyre hilarious, light reads. Watch Over Me is not like them at all, aside from the fact that Sivec shows her ability to write a great book, yet again. Being the polar opposite of previous Sivec books, this novel packed an emotional punch with each new scene, and I may have underestimated it at first glance.

Some of the best things about this book were the well-developed characters, believable plot, and slow, non-forced romance. Addison is a broken young woman trying to get through each day.

One of my favourite, also one of the saddest!

If you're looking into volume 8, you've probably listened to the previous 7, right? Well, The Arrangement 8 still has the absolutely fantabulous Kitty Bang narrating. The storyline of volume 8 is heartbreaking and funny and shocking and surprising with some of the best Mel lines ever. I swear, Kitty Bang does Mel so well, the character deserves an entire book to herself!

The Arrangement 8 crosses over with the events of Damaged 2 (yay for Peter Ferro Granz!)

To date (23/04/2014), there are 14 "Arrangement" volumes out with a 15th in the works. I am addicted to the series and to the characters and to the rush of emotions that I go through with each volume. It's also the kind of story you can easily go back to time and time again to revisit some of your favourite moments.

FANTASTIC!

I can see why they changed the story a bit when they made the movie adaption Point Break. Tapping the source has a few strange themes as well as a few twists and turns that seem to come out of nowhere.

That being said, this book is awesome! The setting (huntington beach) is so well laid out that you almost feel the sunshine tanning your skin and smell the salty air blowing in off the ocean while you listen. The characters, all lost souls in some way, are so strong and interesting that you can't help but like them even if they're the bad guys. Great Book!! Can't say enough about it!

The original "Point Break"

If you are familiar with the film Point Break then you will know what kind of scene the book is set in. It may not be a literary masterpiece but the characters are colorful and well developed. The narrator is great making this an easy listen for your daily commute.

Gripping story telling

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a wonderfully written story with several stories within the story. I enjoyed the gritty insights into a generation of surfers, the anatomy of who a surfer really is, the connection with recreational drugs and other exotic pastimes that can attract (or trap) young people in all modern generations and then the way these beautiful, athletic people drift away from that life style. I also enjoyed the insights into disenfranchised young people, how they keep their way or find their way back; good to the bone human beings. And then, the dark evil that finds its way into the lives of naïve young people. Kem Nunn is a talented writer who focuses on the smallest details to enrich his story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Preston: He was deeply flawed, a born loser in many ways, but with a noble, brave heart who would go to the mat to repay a debt.

What does Andrew Eiden bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

He had the voice of the protagonist.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved the descriptions of the act of surfing. Nunn uses verbal description much the way a good photographer uses the camera lens.
