Wow!! Wonderful Book

Jocelyn Butler is a very complicated character. She has put up such a fierce wall to surround the hurts of her past; it's almost impossible that anyone could get past the barriers. There were times when I wanted to scold her, wring her neck, shake my finger at her, comfort her, and just be the friend she didn't want. Her character is written with depth and extreme emotion. When Braden Carmichael enters her life she is not looking for a man, or a relationship with one beyond the most superficial friendship. It's very interesting how Braden manages to worm his way into her life; as if he'd taken the time to study her and figure out how to 'crack the nut' that fences her emotions. Braden is a wonderful character and I'd imagine the writer had a blast writing for him. Very slowly; Braden 'gets' to Jocelyn (Joss). It seems to this reader that there were times when he'd advance a step only to be put back two steps. Jocelyn is very emotionally bottled-up but the help of Braden and his family; she begins to unfurl.

It's not an easy romance. Most of it seems to be Jocelyn working through her demons. When the romance comes it's HOT and sweet. Very angsty as well. This is a book that we readers will keep and reread. It sparks our thoughts, dreams, hopes, introspections, and worry that maybe Jocelyn won't make it through the darkness that she finally has to face.

Samantha Young definitely knows how to write a story that will keep her readers captured. I appreciated the depth of emotion and intense detail she put into this story. It has a very good amount of sex that is written not so much erotically, but emotionally.

Slow and Boring

This book started interestingly enough but it eventually became slow and boring. The characters, especially one of them, became caricatures. I could only finish Part 1 and then I had enough. I believe I could predict what was going to happen and how it was going to end. The narrator was good. She is probably the reason I hung in there as long as I did.

Disapponted

Rosie Goodwin is my favourite author and her stories are great but the narrator spoiled it her voice was so droll and did not make the story interesting i became bored and didnt finish the book infact not even the second chapter

A heart warming and sometimes emotional read.

I was introduced to this author by a friend after he'd read Mothering Sunday and posted up on Facebook about how good it was, the title interested me so I then went and looked Rosie Goodwin up, I am so glad I did as I have found a new author that I am quickly becoming a fan of. Both Mothering Sunday and the little angel were fantastic and I can't wait for the third book in that collection to come out. As this book is based in the same area I decided to go for this one next. I did not enjoy it as much as the previous two but it was still a fantastic book. very heartwarming and emotional in parts and quite suspenseful as well. the book was based on Maria a young girl who is sent to work at hatters hall a place for the mentally ill, she is employed to take care of Isabel Montgomery who is the daughter of the main benafishary of the establishment. however it's clear that sh's not in sane, a lot of un married mothers are also locked up there to hide the shame of becoming pregnant outside of marriage, the two women quickly realise that if they don't escape they may never leave. Along with Isabel's brother and a young made they befriend who's been brought up in hatters hall they plan an escape.

The story was really good and it's saddened to see how people were treated back in the 18th century. I will read more by this author for sure and if anyone can give me any recommendations on which one to go for next I'll be happy to give it a try.

Great Book

Cute

I tend not to get overly excited about chick lit, but this was a wonderfully cute book. It was a realistic (yet HILARIOUS) portrayal of the ridiculous things we women do after a bad break up. It managed to feel very plausible, yet maintained the lightheartedness of chick lit.

What I loved most was that It didnt follow typical stereotypes focusing on her getting the guy, but instead focused on the strength and beauty of friendship! This was as much about women being there for and supporting women as much as it was anything, and I thought that was a refreshing take. Plus it made me laugh out loud on many occasions, so this is just a win all around!

Fun and Encouraging

After Sophie's boyfriend Eric runs off with "Floozy McSecretary," Sophie is catapulted into the world of recovery. Only it's not a typical twelve-step group. Conveniently, Sophie is taking care of a six-bedroom Victorian house which ends up becoming headquarters for Love Rehab, a group and half-way house of sorts for sophisticated Manhattan women who aren't very suave when it comes to relationships. Reading it might bring back many cringe-worthy moments from your own relationship life, but it's all fun and entertainment when someone else is going through it. The book is also encouraging--when you see how it all turns out for Sophie and her best friend, Annie. Recommend!

I loved this book!

This is a very fun, entertaining book. It explores the ridiculous things people do when they yearn for love, and it captures some of the key truths about how you should approach relationships. It bundles all of that in a fun, sometimes zany plot. This is not on the same level as great books, which is why I gave it four stars, but it's much better than your average romance, and it's message is deeper.I will look for more from this author. She's a great story teller and she has important wisdom to share.

Not a Christmas Romance

Well, where should I start....

First, this story is very British. That's not a complaint, but something you might want to consider. British pronunciations, British references, most you can figure out easy enough, some might leave you wondering.

Frankly, the writing is a notch above most of the Christmas romance books I have read. There's character development, sub plots, real feelings. That was nice.

And then the big one. This does take place at Christmas but for me it didn't "feel" as Christmasy as other Christmas romance books do. I could forgive that. What I can't forgive is that it isn't really a romance book. The main character has a boyfriend/partner, and as other reviewers have mentioned, and as the main character repeatedly mentions, he's a great guy. Their connection is great. But.......

As a reader, and I'm male but I'm not sure that matters, I don't want to read about my partner...who repeatedly claims I'm wonderful...being so easily swayed by someone else just because they're richer than me or more attractive. Characters in romance novels are frequently shallow, and I'm okay with that because the goal of the story is the romance, the attraction, but in this story the main character is already attached, seemingly happily attached. I cared for her, I cared for her partner, I cared for the two wayward lads her partner was mentoring and trying to save. I would have been happy if that was the whole story...but it wasn't.

I didn't hate this book. I actually kind of liked this book. But I ended up not really liking the main character, and feeling sorry for the author who doesn't seem to have the right feel for what romance is.

Narration was fine.

A perfect Christmas listen

Yes this is predictable, feel good, easy listening chick lit - but I loved it! I think I knew where the story was heading from the first few chapters but this did not spoil my enjoyment of it. Carole Matthews creates such likeable characters that it's easy to become involved in their lives and the story. Julia Franklin narrates this perfectly, her friendly, empathetic tone is perfect for family dramas. A perfect Christmas listen!

While I'm not the kind of guy that reads much 'chick lit' I could certainly appreciate the plotting of this unashamedly Christmassy read.

What a lovely story. I just could not stop listening and wish it had gone on for much longer. I would make a great movie too.

The narration by Ron McLarty & January LaVoy was wonderful and really drew you into the story.

Not up to Milly Johnson's usual standard.

I love Milly Johnson books just buy them as they become available. This one however was okay but probably the least favourite of all her books.

Here Come the Girls was great I listened to it quite a few times but this one

definitely is a once only listen.

Very Enjoyable

Milly Johnson never disappoints and the narrator just completes the whole package. I've listened to 6 books of Milly and I hope there are many more to come. Her books are fun and have happy endings.

A classy love story with wonderful Italian setting

Ive read (or listened to) plenty of fiction in my life, everything from junky beach books to classic literature. I loved this audiobook. Gabriel is a clever, funny, profound writer who quickly takes you into the inner world of her characters, while taking you on an external journey that kept me listening. Saras character comes across very clearly and her transformation is inspiring. Big life changes in middle age are rarely easy and the author treats the challenges intelligently. A really satisfying story. And I enjoyed the narration a lot!

Totally Captivating

This story had me in its grips from beginning to end. I was not sure how such conflict could be resolved, but the plot was woven into a beautiful conclusion. Gabriel is a masterful writer.

Good book!

Enjoyable book and a story that rings true for a lot of women in their 40s-50s. Makes me want to take a trip to Italy. The main character is weak and whiny at times which was somewhat annoying. I did not particularly enjoy the performance of the author. I feel the story may have told better by someone else but that is just my opinion. Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others.

Finding Bliss is an emotionally charged book!

My first thought was how realistic this story seemed to be.This is the second book I've read of Dina Silver and I've noticed that she focuses on real issues that people can relate to. The writer explores a variety of topics in this book such as alcoholism, mental illness, marriage, infertility issues, spousal cheating, etc. We are able to watch a woman try to overcome obstacles and learn to appreciate the ups & downs of her rollercoaster life. She deals with the good, bad, and the ugly. The story begins when Chloe is in her early twenties and she is preparing to go stay with the Reed family as their nanny for the summer. During the summer, she starts to fall for the Reed's eldest son Tyler who also happens to be the Notre Dame quarter back. In the beginning, you see how this normally responsible girl is still very naïve when it comes to Tyler Reed. Honestly, I never connecting with Chloe & Tyler's relationship through out the entire book. I did however feel more of a connection between Chloe & Cam. As you can tell, I'm more of a team Cam rather than team Tyler. You watch Chloe fall in love and endure what life throws her way. Regardless, I found this book refreshing and raw. There is a wide variety of characters in this book. Some you will adore and some you will want to throttle. You will experience happy moments and then heart wrenching moments. You experience love, hope and then pain, anger. This book ends with many questions left unanswered. I'm hopeful there is a sequel so I can finally know what happens next in Chloe's life. I highly recommend this gut wrenching book!

I really enjoyed this book. It was so detailed that i thought the ending was going to reveal the author as the main character. As the story unravels, you see the plot twists coming.

Great narrator made it worthwhile

What did you like best about The Lost Husband? What did you like least?

The story was predicable but pleasant, definitely chick lit. Amy Rubinate's excellent narration kept me interested, otherwise, it would have been too predicable. When the goats are the most interesting "characters" in a story, it's not a compelling book.

Would you be willing to try another book from Katherine Center? Why or why not?

Maybe, if I was in the mood for more chick lit

Good story, but unhappy with narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator. The story itself was good, but I found myself tempted to just delete it several times because the narrator annoyed me.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the way it depicts farm life as happy and fulfilling. Also, I liked how it helped me realize that love can come to a widow even when she thinks her heart will never be able to love again.

Would you be willing to try another one of Amy Rubinates performances?

Highly doubtful.

Was The Lost Husband worth the listening time?

Absolutely. As I mentioned above, the story itself is excellent.

Predictable

This book was this month's choice for book club. It was very predictable and soupy. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I had actually read it instead of listening to it. I did not like the performance at all.
