âWith the string of her kite, She tied up the ends. And she was so thankful For all of her friends.â
San Diego, California Author Leela Hope studied English Literature at Berkeley, earning a degree in 1989. Her writing covers a span of several genres, but she always returns to her first love, children's fiction. And it is there that her star shines brightest. Always finding something unique on which to base her stories, she makes each tale a learning experience for children as well as offering some pointers for parenting!
In her inimitably fine rhyming mode Leela shares a new story of Myrtle the Monster, opening with âMyrtle the Monster Was flying her kite.
Then, out of the blue, She got quite a fright!â Myrtle spies a big bear and lets go of the string of her kite and the kite sails into the air.
The kite keeps moving up in the sky then down by the river where Thomas the Turtle offers to help and the two chase the kite to where Old Mr. Toad lives and together they run to where Kelly the Kitten lives. Kelly tries in vain to catch the kite and Mrs. Cow joins the group and together they run up a hill where they find Ralph the Rabbit. The kite flies near a beehive and gets stuck in a tree and just when they give up hope of getting the kite back, up pops Billy the Bear (who is the bear that frightened Myrtle into losing the kite in the first place) and he rescues the kite for all the friends.
Not only is the story colorful and entertaining but also carries a solid bit of information about friends and how to share toys and value friends, even though they seem to be different than you, you need their support and kindness. Another little winner from Leela Hope. Grady Harp, March 17
Go Fly A Kite

In this story, Myrtle the Monster was out flying her kite. She was having such a good time, when suddenly she saw a bear and was so startled she dropped the kite string. Up and away the kite flew. Myrtle started running after her kite, and then as she ran, her friends ran went with her. When you read this book you will understand what happens next.
Adults and children will have a good time reading this book. The children will have many questions about kites, and how do kites fly.
