When her father falls into a coma, Indian American photographer Sonya reluctantly returns to the family she'd fled years before. Since she left home, Sonya has lived on the run, free of any ties, while her soft-spoken sister, Trisha, has created a perfect suburban life, and her ambitious sister, Marin, has built her own successful career. But as these women come together, their various methods of coping with a terrifying history can no longer hold their memories at bay.
Buried secrets rise to the surface as their father - the victim of humiliating racism and perpetrator of horrible violence - remains unconscious. As his condition worsens, the daughters and their mother wrestle with private hopes for his survival or death, as well as their own demons and buried secrets.
Told with forceful honesty, Trail of Broken Wings reveals the burden of shame and secrets, the toxicity of cruelty and aggression, and the exquisite, liberating power of speaking and owning truth.

    Just Annoying
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
i did not enjoy this book at all. Seemed like a Harlequin romance. "I miss him, but he's not mine to miss". He said to me, "I miss you". I replied, "But I'm not yours to miss". So annoying!
What could Sejal Badani have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
It was too long with many unlikable characters.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I liked her voice. Her accent fit the story perfectly.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Annoyance at the cliche relationships and the repetitiveness of phrases. I found the actions of many characters to be quite unbelievable.
    Any additional comments?
I cannot recommend this book to anyone other than those who love a cheesy romance.
    What a powerful story!
Beautifully read/ performed. Powerful book. Not for readers under 17; needs a mature mind to grasp all the nuances of abuse and its far reaching effects. Wonderful book, often kept me awake til wee hours off the morning while listening.
    Compelling story
Stay with this story; it is worth it!
The story starts of a bit slow, but rewards its readers with a compelling, complex story that I will be thinking about for a long while.
    Interesting concept falls short
What did you like best about Trail of Broken Wings? What did you like least?
The topic/concept was interesting, but the writing was trite and juvenile.
What did you like best about this story?
The book explored the topic of domestic abuse in a way I hadn't seen it handled before. Each person in the family was affected deeply, yet differently, by the abuse. Each had coped in a unique way, and the manifestation of their past pain was shown by each in a her own way.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Karen Peakes?
Probably not...I really disliked some of her characterizations.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    Maybe.
Remarkable Story of Family-Bridges all Cultures
While it took two "starts" for me to get into this book, it has been a profoundly moving story of how evils within a family can affect everyone, even those in the next generation.

Great read for animal lovers everywhere
Heart warming story about the love for a dog and the love between family members wonderfully narrated.
    4 or 5 stars?
The story was a bit depressing, bad people doing bad things. The protagonist being depressed as well.
Tho the ending was 5 stars all the way. Really redeemed the whole experience.
    Absolutely great
I didn't want this story to end. It's a wonderful listen. Great story and great narrator.
    Easy Listen
I really enjoyed this book it had a little bit of everything a sweet romance but that was not the main plot. it touched on the devastation of alcoholism that can cause so much grief in a family. The importance of the bond between ots owners and their incredible instincts and intelligence. I enjoyed it till the very last sentence. It was a light read with some important life issues. if your on the fence about it jump off and get it you won't be sorry you did.
    Loooove!
The different view points make for an exciting read. I felt anxious to pick up where I left off each time i listened. Not a tear jerker. More of a heart warmer. :)

Russell Ammiano works on the 104th floor of the World Trade Center. On the morning of September 11, 2001, the phone rings while Rusty is rushing to work. Critic Reviews:
"A fantastic read which will have people talking about it for many weeks and months to come." (Sarah's Book Reviews)
"The award for the amount of humanity woven into a book goes to Catherine Ryan Hyde." (Ivana of Willing to See Less)
    Members Reviews:
Just when you think you've heard it all..
This is yet another one of Ms Hyde's perfect stories of imperfection in the real world. This is the world right after 9-11-2001. She hits the nail on the head again. I can never stop her books, they are better than any good movie. Lots of insightful wisdom sprinkled in too.
    Loved this one
The narrator was incredible, even doing female characters. The story was very good. I highly recommend this Catherine Ryan Hyde.
    Beautifully told
I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The reader was very good and the story stayed interesting throughout the whole book. I was disappointed when it was over because I felt like I wanted it to go on.
    brother love is tested
nine 11 turns a young man's world upside down when he returns home to be sole support of an older intellectually handicapped older brother. it causes the young man to grow in understanding of how preconceived beliefs affect lives. an intense plot that keeps you guessing.
    Perhaps this is for juveniles?
That would explain a lot, if so. The main character is so immature, one wonders if he isn't the one with brain damage instead of his brother.
The writing is pedantic and predictable. The narration is slow and the pauses will give you plenty of time to predict the next line.

The complete finale of the hit BBC Radio 4 sitcom- 2 episodes.
Cabin Pressure is set in the wing and prayer world of a tiny, one-plane airline, staffed by two pilots, one on his way down, and one who was never up to start with. In this, the finale of the whole series, we discover that for MJN Air, whether it's choosing an ice-cream flavour, putting a princess in a van or remembering your grandmother's name, no job is too small, but, many, many jobs are too difficult.
Carolyn Knapp-Shappey, MJN Air's formidable boss, has employed two of the very cheapest pilots money can buy. Captain Martin Crieff, who's always wanted to fly and won't let a little thing like lack of ability stop him, and First Officer Douglas Richardson, smooth-voiced old sky-god and eternal schemer. Passenger service is provided by the relentlessly cheerful Arthur, proud inventor of both Surprising Rice and his own hat.

    Brilliant!
Best comedy series of all time!
Touching and hilarious, wish it never ended. Once you start it you won't be able to stop till you've heard them all.
    MORE, PLEASE!!
I was so excited to see this final episode arrive on Audible, I quickly downloaded and listened to it...and I was not disappointed. This episode is an hour long; the first part sets up the scenario (and, to be fair, it's a little long and sometimes confusing), but without it, the payoff in the second half would not occur! It's a great episode and completes the series in a satisfactory and extremely funny and appropriate way.
I don't know what I will do without the crew of MJN Air...they have entertained me for hours on my commute and I will miss them terribly.
    it's a sad fairy tale ending...BRILLIANT!
I am sad that this is the last episode. I have so enjoyed Carolyn, Martin, Douglas, and Arthur and all the rest of the madcap characters. Excellent fun.
    Just hilarious!
Such fun! Absolutely love the characters and the humor, I listen to it again and again! So sorry there aren't more.
    wonderful conclusion
Great wrap up to a series I was sad to see end. But the end was satisfactory in wrapping up all the stories in the same way the series was. Goofy fun. A nice change of pace. will be looking for more by Finnemoore. He is good.

    Publisher's Summary:
Jealousy, tragedy, survival, and revenge - the discovery of Christophers diary in the ruins of Foxworth Hall brings new secrets of the Dollanganger family to light and obsesses a new generation. With Flowers in the Attic and Petals on the Wind both now major Lifetime TV events, this first new addition to the Dollanganger story in nearly 30 years is a timely look at the events in the attic - from teenage Christophers point of view.
And dont forget to preorder the follow-up, Christophers Diary: Echoes of Dollanganger!
Christopher Dollanganger was 14 when he and his younger siblings - Cathy and the twins, Cory and Carrie - were locked away in the attic of Foxworth Hall, prisoners of their mothers greedy inheritance scheme. For three long years, he kept hope alive for the sake of the others. But the shocking truth about how their ordeal affected him was always kept hidden - until now.
    Members Reviews:
NOTHING new at all about Christopher here
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes, I would completely omit the new story line about the distant third cousin. I get that the author is attempting to foreshadow future books that are being penned, but it is done in such an obvious manner that it makes the brand name of V. C. Andrews feel like a cash cow just milking it's readers.
I also find it ridiculous that this is a TWO part book. There is not nearly enough information in this book to neccessitate dividing into two parts.
What could V.C. Andrews have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Virginia Andrews could not have done anything to make this more enjoyable. But the ghost author, Andrew Neiderman, COULD do some research on how a teenager actually speaks and acts in the year 2014. I have not met a teenager that uses the word "blouse" in a very long time.
Would you be willing to try another one of Kirby Heyborne and Rebekkah Ross s performances?
    Kirby Heyborne's performance was good.
Rebekkah Ross sounded much too old for the character.
Could you see Christopher's Diary: Secrets of Foxworth being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
ABSOLUTELY not! Let's try to get the Dollanganger's right on screen before, we start trying to add this new character.
    Any additional comments?
I will say again, making this book a TWO part book is the most OBVIOUS attempt at needling money out of readers I believe I have ever seen.
Better than I thought it would be!
I buy every book by this author and have since back in the 80s! This book it much better than I thought it would be. I thought it would probably be boring as it was a diary and most diaries are, however I was pleasantly surprised. This is an actual novel. I love how there were two narrators. The female narrator, Rebekkah Ross, read the 1st person parts and Kirby Heybone read the parts of Christopher's diary.
This turned out to be an actual novel! Kristen Masterwood' is a cousin of the Foxworths. Kristen's dad is contracted to tear down the old Foxworth Hall (after 2 fires) and clean the grounds up to sell the land off. It is here where Kristen's dad discovers an old box and let's Kristnen open it. This is where Kristen discovers and old book which turned out to be a diary written by Christopher Dollanganger back in the attic days.
Until now, the town has only had rumors as to what happened so any years ago.

    Or does she?
    Members Reviews:
    A Cliffhanger!
If you're this far in the series, you enjoy these fun books as much as I. It's a whe new crazy venue, and Becky is growing...slowly. (Ok, Minnie is probably maturing more quickly.) Just beware, there is a cliff hanger ending, and the follow up book better be soon!
Cliffhanger ending isn't the experience I want
What did you like best about Shopaholic to the Stars? What did you like least?
I love that this book made me LOL several times, I also as always, think Sophie kinsella does a great job with creating realistic tension in Becky and Luke's relationship. I don't like how the moral of this story seems to be that Becky's a bad person for wanting to be a stylist because it smells like the old " women can't have it all" plot line, and the whole Hollywood is shallow thing is kind of old. I like the shopaholic and I don't want her to be shamed! I also hate that there is a cliffhanger ending. These are books I like to listen too over and over while waiting for the next one to come out, and without a satisfying ending I just don't think I can do that. My only hope is that the next book will prove that Becky wasn't totally " selfish" in this one and everyone will apologize to her and she will find a way to use her shopping powers for good-- or at least good clients. Also the mysterious threads DO sound like they are leading to a classic Kinsella surprise, so my hopes are high:)
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
    Pissed Off.
Have you listened to any of Clare Corbetts other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No, but I like her.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Absolutely, I wish this was made into a long running TV show on amazon or netflix with the tone of The mindy project with each book being a season or so.
    Do NOT waste your money!
What would have made Shopaholic to the Stars better?
Plot resolution, likable characters, decent writing.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Not anything by Kinsella. I need some Jane Austen to cleanse my mental palate after this crappy book.
How could the performance have been better?
Narrator could have familiarized herself with the characters & series. Danny Kovitz, for example, is NOT English, he's American. He shouldn't have had an English accent.

Another great book by Iceberg Slim
Robert Becks' ability to take you inside the life of his characters in the story is amazing. This book is part two of White Folks.
    The actually race
This book was very good because it explorers the concept of race and the way it affects your outlook in life. The character path was developed due to his physical appearance as a white man but yet not excepted because he was black . Limited the opportunities limited direction.

In a small fictional town on the Oregon coast there are love affairs and almost-love-affairs, mystery and hilarity, bears and tears, brawls and boats, a garrulous logger and a silent doctor, rain and pain, Irish immigrants and Salish stories, mud and laughter. There's a Department of Public Works that gives haircuts and counts insects, a policeman who is addicted to Puccini, a philosophizing crow, beer, and berries. An expedition is mounted, a crime is committed, and there's an unbelievably huge picnic on the football field. Babies are born. A car is cut in half with a saw. A river confesses what it's thinking. This is the tale of a town, written in a distinct and lyrical voice, and when the book ends, listeners will be more than a little sad to leave the village of Neawanaka, on the wet coast of Oregon, beneath the hills that used to boast the biggest trees in the history of the world.

    Unique performance of literary art.
Like walking out of the theater after a great performance I felt I was a better person after the experience. Such rich entertainment. I've had this book on my shelf for years but so glad I waited for the audio version. Drummond was perfect! Thanks.
    Very unusual book but flawed
Brian Doyle is a very talented writer - he can capture a moment and place you right in the place he is describing in an instant. Somewhere along the line, someone applauded his use of lists as a means by which to dramatize his stories. The first couple of lists -- woven throughout the novel -- are very satisfying and ingenious really. Then they get old and then they get annoying. I will never be his editor, but, if I were, I would say -- let the schtick go and use your amazing talent to just weave a tale.
I wasn't ready for the story to end!
Very engaging story. Loved the characters and descriptions of the setting. The narration enhances an already enthralling tale.
    Good listening again and again!
Enjoy the depth of character development, the turn of events and the variety of stories.
    beautifully written, poorly read
How could the performance have been better?
I think this books needs a different narrator -- one who can bring a little more subtlety and humor to the reading. I'll go and find it in print, but won't listen further to this production.

Who doesn't appreciate love letters? Love the story. All the characters touched me. Narration was excellent. My first Heather Burch book. I will definitely read her next book.
    Beautiful Old Fashioned Romance
I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent book. It is so refreshing to find a modern author that does not have to rely on bad language, violence, or steamy sex scenes to carry the story along.
The plot concerns a young woman who finds a box of old love letters when she is renovating an old house .Intrigued by the letters she sets out to find the author,a WW2 veteran living in a nearby town with his devoted handsome grandson .The book is full of likable characters and believable situations all set in a delightful beach town in Florida.
The narration was first rate and I will certainly look for more books by this author.
Thanks Audible for making this available.
    Letters tell the story
One Lavender Ribbon is an easy book to listen to. The narrator is pleasant and handles different voices well. The story is a romantic fiction, involving several characters whose lives and lies have woven them together in a typical romantic fiction style. I liked the story, the twists of storyline and the resolution.
    A Frustrating Tale--Really a Fairy Tale
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I probably wouldn't recommend this book. I found it very frustrating, and, in the end, quite a shaggy dog story. Just when you thought nothing else could throw a wrench into the story, along it came. Toward the end I found myself yelling, "Don't do it! Just back away." I think research shows that abusive behavior repeats itself, and often women who have been in abusive relationships often continue in them. It would be the rare case when abusive behavior can be changed in such a seemingly simple turn as Will's was. I fear Adrian is in for a similar experience as in her first marriage. The epilogue just makes it a fairy tale, in my mind.
What about Emily Sutton-Smiths performance did you like?
She was able to capture the variety of voices and the related emotions
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    I wouldn't promote this story.
    Emotional Lump
What made the experience of listening to One Lavender Ribbon the most enjoyable?
The historical significance combined with the wonderfully flawed and loving characters. I couldn't stop listening.
