I had to stop listening to this story a few times. There are some graphic scenes and unnatural scenarios that take you into Rafaella's inner thoughts as she slides into madness. The story is a bit over the top.

Great story, difficult to hear

Excellent story as with all Flashman books, but slightly spoiled by the performance. The narrator alternated between very softly spoken and very loud, which made it difficult or impossible to listen to in the car, on earphones etc. A pity, because he was otherwise quite good.

Brilliant writing, poor narration

What did you like most about Flashman's Lady?

Great evocation of early cricket matches and, as ever, GMF knows how to pace a book. It's a great shame the actor reading it isn't any where near good enough. Wrong voice and some awful reading gaffes [ doesn't anyone monitor the recordings ]

Get Timothy West to read them.I heard the best Flashman [ for me ] F in the Great Game

I stopped at the end of chapter 5 when our 'hero' rapes our 'heroine'. Not my idea of the start of a romance. I understand that was common in the 13th century, but I am willing to overlook inaccuracy in this case.

A Lovely Romance

I truly enjoyed this story about a young lady who felt she was merely a pawn for the king she served. Given to a man she despised. In love with a man who only wanted vengeance against her betrothed. This story is so well written I did not want to stop listening! I believe you we'll find it a lovely romance too!

I enjoy Heather Graham books but this particular heroin is so irritating. I wanted to scream at her.

Destiny Spear : I found this book to be an exciting look at history through the eyes and heart of Rodney Walker.

My interest was immediately drawn to the artifact of ancient spear used in the crucifixion of Christ and its subsequent role through antiquity.

The search and discovery of the spear and its anticipated power to change the course of events between two of the most powerful and influential leaders during WWII makes this book exciting and a pleasure to read.

I wish Mr Walker the best in his endeavors and hope to find more of his works on K in the future.

Superb narration of a great story

Cornwell tells in vivid detail a great story, I have now read nearly all the Sharpe's books & I am never disappointed.

You always feel you are, in the middle of the battle. Rupert Farley really helps the story come alive, with his different voices.

I am always amazed at his detail & his knowledge of the history the story's are built around. Fantastic!!

Brilliant Sharpe series.

I was recommended the Sharpe series by a friend at the start of the year. It has been a real blessing in my life and I feel slightly saddened that there's only 2 or 3 more books to go. Thoroughly brilliant stories and the narrator adds SO much value. His name is Rupert Farley and what a talent he is, so much so that I wrote to him recently to congratulate him on his work in this series. Particularly good at the accents of the various characters. Listen to the series from book 1, you will love it. Well done to the author and narrator. Dr. A

Narration - Julia Motyka - Really Good

Sigh...I think this may have ended up being my favorite of this series. It's so sweet and Adam is such a Fabulous character. So romantic, patient and kind.

Rebecca has an accident, bonks her head and loses her memory on the day that they are planning to tell their family that they are getting married early (that day in fact).

She doesn't remember anything...not her family, her life, her fiance.

I'm sure many could find a lot of fault in this entire series. There's some things that some people have debated in their reviews of all of the books in this series and when I read what they say, I can agree with them, but not enough to sway my opinion or really just my enjoyment of the series.

These books aren't full of sex, there is a little violence, but nothing graphic, there are secrets kept and lies of omission. At the heart of them, they are, for the most part, just stories about a family of men that are too good to be true and their road to finding their wonderful wives (and children) that are too good to be true. For me though, they just hit the right spot.

Sweet, Romantic stories that made me cry and made me happy and made me wish I had me a Grayson man!

I hope there will be more books added to the series. It appeared to me that she hinted at a Leo book and his search for his brothers. If so, I shall be on board!

Another excellent murder mystery

A rather gruesome but well thought out story, full of local knowledge coupled with a fascinating account of the history of the day - I could not put it down.

Just love this series!

C. J. Sansom's story lines keep the suspense going. I have read all the books so far in this series. I love the main characters who are warm and likeable, Barak adds colour and humour even in the most dire situations. I can't wait to get into the next book. Highly recommended!

Fascinating!

A serial killer in a Tudor environment without the modern profiling and associated technology? This is creativity at its best. Reminded me of a recent film. However, the introduction of the seven vials from Revelation was a stroke of genius!.

The way in which the differing theological and reformist views was handled showed a real grasp of the issues involved. I particularly enjoyed the cameos of the movers and shakers of the reformist tradition as they were woven into the story. It gave a real foundation to the elements of political dogma and politicking of the time.

This has been the one Sansom volume I was unable to put down! I would certainly listen to it again, for I think there are many nuances which I have not picked up in a first encounter.

Hreartily recommended!

Another brilliant book, superbly read

Revelation is terrifyingly dark in places and not an easy story to hear at times, but nonetheless another brilliant Shardlake book. The reading is excellent...the narrator changes his tone and accent appropriately without the parody that some resort to, particularly when reading the women's speeches.

Absorbing

This is book four in the Captain Charles Hayden series. It is a high sea adventure historical novel. The story is set toward the end of the 18th century at the beginning of the Napoleonic wars.

The opening of the story has the Captain and Crew of HMS Themis stationed in Bridgetown Barbados. HMS Themis comes upon a pair of half dead shipwreck survivors, a young Spanish nobleman and his beautiful sister. They are fleeing to the New World for safe harbor. HMS Themis rescues a cripple slave ship and tows it to Barbados. The Themis is ordered out on patrol in a squadron of three other ships under command of Captain Jones. Two other ships in the fleet disappear leaving just the two ships. Then the fun begins.

There is lots of tactics and age of sail strategizing, hand to hand combat, dangerous harbor raids, ship to ship battles, suspense, action and of course, superiors who are more interested in glory than survival. The book is easy to read, period accurate in every detail and well written. If you are a fan of the British Navy in the days of sail you will enjoy this series. Daniel Philpott does a good job narrating the book.

What did you like best about Until the Sea Shall Give Up Her Dead? What did you like least?

I liked the first three books by this author in this series, but this one not so much. The plot was disjointed and had many scenes that causes this sailor, who has experience on a square rigged ship, to roll his eyes in disbelief. However, my biggest disappointment in the book was the ending...it was both abrupt with unnecessary sadness as well as lacking in closure. Finally, the author choose a new narrator for this book whose performance paled when compared to his predecessor.

I will not try another Charles Hayden story. It is not the narrator, but the story itself. The first two books were quite promissing, The third a bit less so. This one is a disappointment.

Attack then defend.

A very emotive episode for Sharpe as french cruelty is described, in graphic detail. In fact it's human cruelty on both sides, all ages, all classes. Historically it seems, napoleon left soult out on a limb. No reinforcements meant no king of Lithuania. but thousands suffered as a result, and wellingtons army had an easier job of removing the french from Portugal.

Book 7 the best yet

Enjoyed this book emencley good pace with twist and turns . Rupert Farley' s naration is concistant thought the series, which allows you to pickup one book after another and slip straight back into Sharps world .

Another great historical instalment

I'm starting to get an appreciation of the Peninsula action in the early 1800's and leave Havoc with an appetite to learn more.

Fantastic once again and gripping,also well narrated.Bernard Cornwell has come up with a terrific character that every boy would love to be,brave and heroic!.

Similar to oil! This novel brings the reader into the world of working class struggle in early 20th century US. Worth the listen!
