Great & practical box set on essential oils & natural remedies!
A really great source of information for anyone wanting to know more about essential oils & natural remedies. I especially liked the section about oils for ailments, as this is one of the main reasons I was interested in the topic. The author goes into details (with recipes) of what to do for different ailments; great! However, beyond just ailments, the first book covers all aspects of suing essential oils (whether buying them or making them yourself), and if you are at all interested in the topic then I recommend it.
The second book goes into a variety of natural remedies in more detail. This is an incredibly interesting area, and the book goes into several completely natural ingredients that also basically act as natural medicine. As I have been on a mission to become healthier I have already started to use some of these items, but having this book has been great as it has made my use of these ingredients so much more specific and accurate as natural remedies. As a practical introduction for how these ingredients work as remedies this is a great read.
Great Books For Learning How To Overcome Common Health Problems And Improve Your Health
One of the best books I have red on natural remedies. I would recommend everyone to read those books who are concerned about the yours, your family's health and well being. Those books provide you a ton of information on different natural remedies, their usage and benefits. It also teaches you how to overcome most common health problems like: headaches, back pain, stomach and much more. I personally received so much benefit from this book by reducing my headaches, it just helps you to be more productive and happy. And my little daughter tried cold and flu recipes and she loved it, not only she loved, but he got healthy pretty quickly and those recipes definitely helped her. So those books a really great source of helpful information on how to overcome health problems and improve your overall. Must Read!
Get this box set for both books.
This is a good set of two books on essential oils and natural remedies and they compliment each other nicely. It seems, to me at least, that you can always learn more about either subject and Lindsey P does provide some great info I haven't come across before.

The Laws of Medicine: Field Notes from an Uncertain Science is a book that outlines the guiding rules that govern medicine. It is based on the experience of the author, Siddhartha Mukherjee, MD, PhD, in the medical field....
Please note: This is key takeaways and analysis of the book, not the original book.
Inside this Instaread of The Laws of Medicine:
    Members Reviews:
~~ Rules cannot be set in stone where medicine is concerned ~~
The original book by Siddhartha Mukherjee is an outline of the "guiding rules that govern medicine" based on the author's experience in the medical field. "Medicine is a soft science with guiding rules rather than hard and fast laws". In this Instaread summary (think DETAILED and interesting review) you may be surprised to read the name Hermione Granger, a character in the Harry Potter series listed as one of the important people in this book! Johannes Kepler, a German mathematician from the 16th century is also mentioned.
There are 6 Key Takeaways stated and discussed in this summary. Here are a couple to whet your appetite:
    >> #2 - "Modern medicine only dates back to the 1940's. Before them, the choices were amputations, and the "three P's - placebo, palliation, and plumbing." "
    >> #5 - "Regular cases create a working set of rules but the outliers prove the laws."
The author's style is described as clear and suitable for both the medical professional and lay reader. This is a short, interesting read for those who do not have the time to read the original but want to know what the book is about. Please note that my review is based on the quality of this Instaread review and NOT the original book. Product provided in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Liz
    Medicine--the soft science
If youâve ever paid close attention during your sessions with your doctor, you already know that much of what medical professionals do is based upon informed guesswork and intuition. Key Takeaways, Analysis & Review of Siddhartha Mukerjeeâs The Laws of Medicine by Instaread summarizes an excellent book about the soft science of medicine, based on the authorâs long experience as a doctor.
The key takeaway from this book, clearly highlighted in this review, is that knowledge is not absolute, but conditional, and that medicine is not a science based upon hard and fast rules, but one that is shaped by commonsense guidelines based upon experience. After reading this review, youâre likely to be a bit uncomfortable the next time you get advice from your doctor, but even that is conditional knowledge that must be validated by experience.
Whether the review makes you want to invest in the book itself is beside the point. The insight youâll gain from this summary is well worth the 15 minutes itâll take you to read it.
    Rules vs. Laws
"The Laws of Medicine" is an intriguing concept for a book. As an MD and PhD, the author explores the soft science of medicine, coming to the conclusion that it follows rules contrary to the other sciences (like physics or chemistry). This Instaread review provides a great service, outlining the argument and theory of Mukherjee in 6 key takeaways, in an objective and unbiased way, allowing you to agree or disagree with his conclusions.

    Title: Orphan
Subtitle: The Quest to Save Children with Rare Genetic Disorders
    Author: Philip R. Reilly
    Narrator: John Wray
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 15 hrs and 54 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-06-15
Publisher: Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 9 votes
    Genres: Science & Technology, Medicine
    Publisher's Summary:
Orphan is about the struggle to save the lives of children who, because of an unlucky roll of the genetic dice, are born with any one of several thousand rare genetic disorders. Many are burdened with diseases that carry mysterious names, some of which you will hear about for the first time in this audiobook, along with compelling stories about the physicians, scientists, and parents who have taken them on.
Orphan is more than a book about disease and research - it gives voice to thousands of people who, all too often, have endured terrible illnesses, bravely faced arduous clinical trials, and (sometimes) known victories, almost always in silence. It recounts extraordinary breakthroughs and hopes for the future. Many of the disorders that will end our lives are in some part genetically influenced. We really are all orphans, and this book is for all of us.
    Members Reviews:
Comprehensive discussion of Genetics, past, present & future
Although I'm not a biologist, I found this book immensely interesting from the historical background to so many disorders, the state-of-the art treatments of today and projections for the future treatment of these rare genetic disorder. As the author notes towards the end of the book, if we look into our own ancestry, we are bound to find any number of 'familial traits' which likely have a genetic cause. So although most of the book delves into Orphan diseases, the very techniques used to treat/cure Orphan diseases are crucial in treating cancers, heart disease, etc.. The author's genetic background emerges as he time and again notes his presence at pivotal points in genetic discovery and his personal meetings and affiliations with so many of the key researchers in genetics. His writing style was quite engaging, occasionally making note of his own genetics and poignant anecdotal quips. Finally, the author's grasp of the legal and ethical nuances of such discoveries left me with an appreciation of all that medical researchers do to improve the quality of our lives, despite the legal and ethical hurdles that must be overcome in the process.
The definitive story of rare diseases
Simply superb. Reilly weaves together a series of intimate vignettes into a moving and informative tapestry that depicts the most vulnerable and the most venerable of humanity.
A must read for anyone interested in rare diseases, genetics, or medicine.
    good
    good book
    Five Stars
    Great!
Irritating to read but if you can get past the preaching, there are interesting bits
I liked the book---I learned a lot. What spoiled it was that Reilly is so infatuated with venture capitalism, it gets in the way of his narrative. I mean, really gets in the way; as in, he shoves it in your face, almost violently. In nearly every other paragraph there is an evangelist exhortation of the market rewarding biotech companies with value. Sometimes the book even sounds like it regrets how rare orphan diseases inherently are and how not enough people are affected by this or that horrible disease for the future revenue stream to justify the effort of research. Idealism aside, and even if we have no choice but to do medical research this way, it really should not be shamelessly promoted as if it is the right or only way to go about it.
Granted this may be an ideological disagreement.

    Marketing book without much substance
Don't buy this book if you are a clinician or healthcare provider. It is a marketing book, apparently meant to be provided to their patients. There is no author section, no research, no physiology. It is approximately 30 pages in length, so this isn't a "book" by any means. In addition, the font is large, the margins are huge. It looks as though the author wrote it in about an hour. What it does good: A very very very brief description what some types of regenerative medicine, but lacks any real substance.
    Ray of hope

    Excellent Reference!
I was curious about the topic of synthetic marijuana and wanted a reliable source to provide me with the information I needed to know. Thankfully I came across this clear, concise volume which provided me with all the relevant information. The open, honest, judgement free quality of the writing makes this an extremely enjoyable, as well as educational, read.
The author thoroughly discusses everything from the history and development of synthetic marijuana in both the United States and Europe to the pros and cons of its use and how it compares to natural marijuana.
This fascinating, well written book is impeccably researched and provides an excellent look into the world of synthetic marijuana. I highly, highly recommend it to anyone interested in the subject.
Loved the section on the different types
Whether or not you've used cannabis, you've probably heard about synthetic marijuana, either from people you know or the news. The thing about "synthetic marijuana" is it is a very nebulous term because there are so many different types. This book helps the reader really get a grasp on what synthetic marijuana is. It covers the history of synthetic marijuana, the effects of it, and the legality, among other topics. My favorite section is on the different types -- from JWH to K2 to Spice, this book covers it. If you want a concise read with all the info on synthetic marijuana in one place, this book is a good buy.
    Very Informative
I was curious about the topic of synthetic marijuana and this book provided me the information I needed to know.
Everything from the history and development of synthetic marijuana in the US and Europe, the pros and cons of its use and comparison with natural marijuana is discussed.
I recommend this book to anyone who's interested in this topic.
Puff or Pass, the Verdict is in
Author Chris Campbell does a pretty thorough job of teaching readers about synthetic marijuana, on both the pros and the cons. With the legalization of marijuana getting the green light in many states, I wanted to know more about what the knock-off of sorts could do. Particularly in terms of its medicinal purposes, I wanted to find out if synthetic marijuana was capable of achieving the same thing, learn whether it costs less, and to uncover if there were any damaging side effects. Without giving the contents of the book away, I will say that Campbell covers all of this and more, including info for those who are interested in using synthetic marijuana for recreational use. What I liked most about this read has to definitely be its candor.

Russell Stamets manages his latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) naturally, without insulin. His is the first account of combining Western and Eastern medicine to lower blood sugar levels and revive his pancreas.
Delivered with humor, irreverence, and verse, this audio handbook will be appreciated by any type of diabetic or anyone striving for sustainable, incredibly good health.
"I applaud you, Russell. This is an accurate way of thinking. As an RN who has been working in a hospital for 30 years and observing and working for a system of health care that is costly and hitting the problems with more insurance billing for conditions that could be eliminated with diet and stress management, your book is right on!"
At age 49, Russell Stamets was diagnosed with latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA). He was told it was irreversible and that he faced a daily shot in the stomach. Unwilling to accept Western medicine's only option, insulin, Russell looked east. He researched, designed a plan, and tested it on himself. Against all odds, he succeeded in lowering his blood sugar levels and reviving his pancreas. Russell provides the details of his diet, supplements, and lifestyle (including meditation) delivered with a dose of humor, irreverence, and verse. Any type of diabetic or prediabetic or anyone looking for a sane, sustainable way to achieve incredibly good health will appreciate this book.
    Members Reviews:
    Reverse the"Irreversible"
Though this very personal story is an impassioned life-preserver targeted for people fighting LADA, those suffering from other illnesses in the autoimmune category may well profit by it. In fact, anyone may profit from it, as the outcome of absorbing and following these recomendations is a marked improvement in health and attitude.
An accomplished, easy writing style carries the reader smoothly over a large amount of information, including the specific diet and regimen the author has developed in his own campaign to reverse the "irreversible".
His extensive and imaginative research combines ideas and facts from both present-day medical practitioners and two thousand years of Eastern Medicine. Central to this program is the Eastern concept that a mind under stress must result in a body under stress.
    Stamets's results are remarkable--perhaps a major watershed.
    Heathy Approach to Diabetes Control
Amazing most of us won't make the efforts he has to learn about our diseases and the effects on our bodies, make calculated changes with our diet and exercise like he has done to hold his diabetes at bay. And really too bad doctors don't take this approach. I guess the drugs are the simple way to keep stave off the symptoms. Best wishes for continued success on his journey to a long, healthy life.
    Encouraged
I'm a pre-diabetic and this book sure gives me the encouragement to gain control of my life style before it's too late! The book is easy to understand and gives you everything you need to get started on a healthier way of life. Bravo to the Author!
    Naive
Although it's interesting to read someone's story of denial, I would warn people not to take his advice for their own health's sake.
