Title: Health Attitude: Unraveling and Solving the Complexities of Healthcare
    Author: John R. Patrick
    Narrator: John Edmondson
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 26 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-09-15
    Publisher: Attitude LLC

    Genres: Science & Technology, Medicine
    Publisher's Summary:
After John R. Patrick's career at IBM, he took a seat on the board of a teaching hospital. He was surprised to learn how hospitals and physicians lagged at adopting information technology, and was appalled at the needless complexity of healthcare delivery processes. Instead of shaking his head and walking away, Patrick took action.
The result is a revealing look at the cultural, attitudinal, and technological barriers holding back the United States from achieving a more affordable, accessible, and effective healthcare system. Patrick sees the inability to share personal healthcare information between hospitals, specialists, and primary care doctors as a major problem. He believes increasing collaboration for more effective healthcare is not a technical problem: It is attitudinal. The reliance of the uninsured on expensive emergency care instead of preventive care is not limited by healthcare capabilities, but by the attitude of healthcare policymakers and politicians.
Patrick argues we need new attitudes about healthcare to achieve true reform. His vision includes a system focused on patients and uses an accountability oriented, fee for value model. Patrick promotes an attitude that provides incentives for wellness, not sickness.

Why does it cost so much and what can be done?
If you are a layperson trying to understand why the cost per capita of healthcare in the US is so much higher than the rest of the developed world with no better and often times worse outcomes this is the book for you. John Patrick combines his own very relevant experience with a prodigious amount of research to address each of the major elements of cost on a macro and micro basis and comes up with suggestions for significant productivity improvements and cost reductions. He makes a compelling case that the current Fee for Service Model has to shift to a more patient centric, Fee for Value approach. After listening to his well written, thorough review of this very complex subject it's hard to disagree with him.
    Reasonable solutions, comprehensive & eye-opening
The problems described are so vast that they seem not a boulder but rather a mountain that this author skillfully picks up, turns over and twists around to look at from every side. The solutions offered seem reasonable, sensible and achievable. All in all a very clear view of a stupendously huge problem with many chilling and disturbing aspects of which I had no idea before reading this very, very good book. It is to be hoped that policymakers in the new Administration will read this book.
Not a "must read" by any means
if you read widely about health care policy, you'll find little new in this book. That said, the final chapter has interested me in reading the author's earlier book, Net Attitude.

Herbal remedies are a form of natural medicine which primarily operates through plants and plant based derivatives. This usually means using plants which contain a biologically active alkaloid. Books about the subject are vitally important, as they can guide one into using the correct plants at the correct doses. Too small of a dose won't work, and too high could be dangerous. As such, a book will help one stay within the desired range.

    Great for cultural competency
I am excited to have this as a resource and a basis for our upcoming strategic planning for our mental health free clinic. Bridges is invaluable to help infuse cultural competency into nonprofits and health care.
    Great information
Great book for all healthcare providers!
    For healthcare practitioners. . .
This book turned out to not be what I expected. It talks about how healthcare is more expensive every year and what can be done. Models of healthcare are offered to improve health access to everyone. According to the authors, healthcare must look differently at thinking and serving patients of economic classes, especially poverty. There are seven chapters with progressive lessons. The book focus is on the poverty patient.
I think that this is a good book but it is limited as there are middle class patients finding healthcare difficult and expensive. This book will be most helpful for health practitioners-- from doctors to hospitals.

    Annoying, waste of my time.
It's the first time a book of such genre left me so annoyed! for more than one reason. First - very small font, very tough to read. I wasted a day to get it into a MS Word format, so I could enlarge the font - that got the layout and URLs all messed up. From now on, I request a free sample to see if a book is readable without a magnifier. But I managed to read it.That's when the next annoyance came. Useful information but awfully short of details. " you need 2 large magnets" - How large? little 2.5mm acupuncture magnets might be 12,000 gauss strong. Later a piece of info popped up - He is using 4"diameter disks. Well, how about some specifics on the grade of these magnets? How many gauss are they? Here the author sends the reader to his web site where (surprise!) he sells just the magnets you need for $100 a set. If you need more than one set for other people/pets/plants in the house, it's going to cost you!. 4" magnets can be VERY strong and expensive, so ,what to do?If the author specified how many gauss these magnets are, it would be easier since you can buy smaller magnets on Amazon or in China and stack them to the gauss you need. but What do you need? this is a top secret apparently, since it's never mentioned. I'll find this info elsewhere, but why should I? this was the reason I bought this book. And one more thing - the compass method of finding N and S works, but a Horseshoe magnet with marked ends is more reliable (no interference that confuses the compass). Not a satisfied reader. , If you r interested in the subject, find something more informative

    Magnetized Therapy
This is not a new concept by any stretch of the imagination. But, it is good to read about it again, and try to decide for myself just how I do feel about this method of pain treatment. It is definitely worth the price. A good read.

    Publisher's Summary:
The word is out, and the fight is on for civilization to prove that cannabis, also known as marijuana, is the next superdrug. What fascinates me is our body's prebuilt system that feeds off of endocannabinoids, which are contained in plants such as the marijuana plant. I became interested with endocannabinoids because of their responsibility in creating the "runner's high" with which all long-distance and endurance athletes are quite familiar.
When I went to review this system out of fascination with its potency just from running for a long time, I found much more positive information about this system in all of our bodies that no one talks about. Join me in this audiobook to be fascinated by a system that makes our immune system look minuscule.

A long road to human evolution
Loved it, but the narrator was a little shaky. This is new territory for all of us in the field, which makes this book indispensable for beginners. There's a long and winding road ahead, that will lead to logical common sense thinking about medicines and medical practice that actually works for healing the patient. This reading is good as any right now for wetting the appetite of those with less knowledge that want to know more.
    Great educational information
Love the book! Only issue is that the man cannot pronounce the words correctly, Endocannabinoid and Cannabinoid are mispronounced.
why aren't kids learning about this?
What did you love best about The Endocannabinoid System: Where Was This in Our Biology Book??
I loved how it brought back into existence, a system in the body that no biology or anatomy teacher would ever talk about!

While Hemp does not provide the user with a high, it can provide valuable nutrients that are essential for life. Hemp remains to be controversial for countries that have a zero tolerance police to all forms of cannabis plants, but those countries may be in for change soon. I am a personal trainer with a lifelong goal to promote wellness and to analyze the food and crops of our land.

This article is neither in depth nor grammatically correct. If you are going to publish something and charge people for it please at least make sure you are spelling things correctly. This is a joke.
    worst book ever
Crap. Says marijuana and hemp are two different plantsâ just cause everyone may have the ability to write a book, doesn't mean that they should.

    Publisher's Summary:
Healthcare providers in the American medical system may find that patients from different cultures bring unfamiliar expectations, anxieties, and needs into the examination room. To provide optimal care for all patients, it is important to see differences from the patient's perspective and to work with patients from a range of demographics. Caring for Patients from Different Cultures has been a vital resource for nurses and physicians for more than twenty years, offering hundreds of case studies that illustrate cross-cultural conflicts or misunderstandings as well as examples of culturally competent health care.
Now in its fifth edition, Caring for Patients from Different Cultures covers a wide range of topics, including birth, end of life, communication, traditional medicine, mental health, pain, religion, and multicultural staff challenges. This edition includes more than sixty new cases, introduces a new chapter on improving adherence, and updates the concluding chapter with examples of changes various hospitals have made to accommodate cultural differences. Grounded in concepts from the fields of cultural diversity and medical anthropology, Caring for Patients from Different Cultures provides healthcare workers with a frame of reference for understanding cultural differences and sound alternatives for providing the best possible care to multicultural communities.

"An excellent book for those interested in providing culturally responsive and effective care to our nation's increasingly diverse population." (Dr. Robert Like, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School)

    Not What I Expected
I was required to purchase this book for a cross cultural medicine course. The professor had not read the book before we started the course and I hope that if he had this book would not have been used. I felt that it was written in a way that insulted my intelligence. The examples were super cheesy and she wrote them as if she had truly had each of these experiences. However, she was about as convincing as your mom telling you that the tooth fairy is real when you're 16. I was thoroughly offended by some of the author's writings, particularly in regards to African Americans. Although this is a book that is supposed to enlighten readers about other cultures, all it really accomplished was reinforcing false stereotypes. I truly can't believe someone published this.
    Good book!
Anybody getting higher degrees in nursing should get this book as a guide. It's more of a bare-bones culture and care guide. Needless to say as all of these different ethnicities incorporate into the fabric of America their cultures will become less profound than ours. I had Muslim/Islamic patients which were no different than ours simply because they become Americanized; however, the dietary no pork remained intact. Many Americanized women won't even cover their heads with a scarf. Now if you get like a Syrian refugee as a patient--they just come here yes you can expect their culture to be much more profoundly apparent. In a few years--especially the younger generation you can expect them to become Americanized.
Detailed book! Great for healthcare providers!
This book is great! It provides a lot of detail and examples.

Discover How to Cure Erectile Dysfunction for Good!
The popular misconception is that with the introduction of Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, etc., the management of erectile dysfunction is a closed case. All you have to do is pop a pill and problem solved. This cannot be farther from the truth! There are several reasons why you should think twice, thrice, four times, or more, before considering the same medication as a permanent cure. At best these are only immediate and temporary.
Bear in mind, NOT everybody can just pop a pill. There are contraindications i.e. heart ailments, diabetes, allergies, etc. There is also the under discussed ill effects of long term use i.e. kidney disease, liver complications, heart ailments, etc.
Herbal medication is not a sure thing. This is not to belittle its benefits. Rather, the problem here is selecting the supplement that works, and does it better than the competition.
Just to be clear, this book is here to discuss a long term cure, NOT a stop gap. Reliance on strong and expensive medication is only a step towards self-healing. This book will focus more on identifying the underlying problem, determining the do's and don'ts, herbal and natural food supplements, lifestyle change, etc.
Here Is a Preview of What You'll Learn...
