    Publisher's Summary:
The topic of the fivefold ministry - the apostle, prophet, teacher, pastor, and evangelist appointed by Christ to equip his church (Eph, 4:11) - was central to two movements in previous decades: the Shepherding Movement in the 1970s, and the New Apostolic Reformation in the 1990s and early 2000s.
While both movements saw important elements of this ministry restored to the church, they also saw misunderstandings and abuses that prevented the fivefold from becoming more widely established in doctrine and practice. Yet a fresh wave of fivefold restoration is coming to the body of Christ and with it, fresh understanding about why this ministry is so critical to the growth, health, and success of both the local and global church.

    Excellent
This is a comprehensive study of five-fold ministry with practical application throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The chapter in the appendix concerning women in ministry was excellent. I cannot say enough about this book! It is most definitely a handbook, and one that I will refer back to often. Highly recommended!
This is an excellent book for Pastors

Servent hearted foot washing leader- great book
Dr. Jonathan Welton wrote this book as a servent hearted leader and from that perspective we get a fresh revelation of true five fold leadership. Dr. Welton is an apostle, that has washed many feet and willing to wash more. He models the same leadership Jesus did, and he writes about in this new book. It's one of the best definitions of the five fold ministry. He breaks down each part of the five fold, explaining what the Bible says about it and how it can be used in ministry and leadership today. He even goes into proper correction used in the Bible and how to do it in a loving way today. A must tool for the toolbox of references in your library. There is also a great chapter on Women in ministry too, check it out.

The Bible contains more mind-blowing information than most of us can possibly imagine. And, it's anything but trivia. It's tons of biblical facts and big, yet neglected, ideas that we all need to know and understand. Here are just a few examples:
These are just some of the surprising issues addressed in the highly anticipated Shocked by the Bible 2. Here are some others:
In a fascinating, highly listenable sequel to his best seller Shocked by the Bible (Thomas Nelson, 2008), author Joe Kovacs not only gives us key, meaty Biblical facts and ideas, but he connects the scriptural dots. The result? Listeners can spiritually grow and perfect their personal characters.
    Members Reviews:
Every Christian NEEDS to read this book!
I read the first "Shocked by the Bible" from the same author a few years ago and was flabbergasted by some of the amazing "facts" in the Bible that I never knew or didn't take the time to pay attention to. Frankly, it made me realize how little that people (even Bible-believing Christians) understand, or refuse to understand about the words on the pages of their own Bibles.
Basically, the author isn't preaching to you about what the Bible means, but rather just asking you to read the words on the page and BELIEVE what it says. It really is shocking when you realize much of what you've been "preached to" about in church and by family and friends isn't even in the Bible! In fact, it's often actually the complete opposite. All you have to do is open your eyes and read the words on the page and BELIEVE what the words say. God is speaking to you in plain and simple language. All you have to do is pay attention to the words on the page and you'll see His entire plan for our lives.
This new book "Shocked by the Bible 2" takes that to a whole new level. I previously read the first "Shocked" book in spurts when I had time to spare. I thought it was eye-opening and even humorous. However, I couldn't put this new book down. It felt as if God was compelling me to read it, and as the author delved deeper and deeper into the Bible, I felt like I was being given a special "gift" of information -- things previously unseen and unspoken. My mind was opened up to an amazing unseen world, a world that God wants you and me to understand and be a part of as one of His children. I highly recommend this book!
    A Must Read
Wow, I love this book. Yes, I read the bible all the time and yes I have read the bible thru a few times. But this book gave me insight into what the bible is actually saying, what is actually written. I love this book!!
    By the first one too!
    Well what can I say.
been reading the bible for 20yrs (and yes I do read it).
    Learnt lots.

it gets to the core. and thats always good.

    Title: Caesar's Messiah
Subtitle: The Roman Conspiracy to Invent Jesus

    Publisher: Joe Atwill

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Was Jesus the invention of a Roman emperor? The author of this ground-breaking book believes he was. Caesar's Messiah reveals the key to a new and revolutionary understanding of the origin of Christianity, explaining what is the New Testament, who is the real Jesus, and how Christ's second coming already occurred.
The clues leading to these startling conclusions are found in the writings of the first-century historian Flavius Josephus, whose Wars of the Jews is one of the only historical chronicles of this period. Closely comparing the work of Josephus with the New Testament Gospels, Caesar's Messiah demonstrates that the Romans directed the writing of both. Their purpose: to offer a vision of a "peaceful Messiah" who would serve as an alternative to the revolutionary leaders who were rocking first-century Israel and threatening Rome.
Similarly, Caesar's Messiah will rock our understanding of Christian history as it reveals that Jesus was a fictional character portrayed in four Gospels written not by Christians but Romans. This Flavian Signature edition adds Atwill's latest discoveries of numerous parallel events in sequence which ultimately reveal the identity of the true authors of the Gospels.

    Strong Wake Up Call
Nobody found it odd that Jesus didn't have anything to say against slavery? I would think that would be one of the first clues that the religion is a fraud designed to pacify people...or perhaps the part about the dead coming up out of their graves and walking around town (Matthew 27:52). Funny that's there's no record of any such event ever taking place. In fact, there's no record of Jesus Christ ever existing, nor any of his apostles, but that hasn't stopped Christians from believing in the story. Which begs the question: now that Joseph Atwill has proven beyond any possible shadow of a doubt that Jesus Christ is just a character that the Romans invented, are Christians going to wake up? I really don't think that's likely, but for what it's worth, I hope Mr. Atwill's work does help the world wake up from this mind-numbing religion.
I guess the real joke is that Christians have been murdering and persecuting "pagans" and "heathens" for centuries...and all along their beloved Jesus Christ was no more real than Mickey Mouse or Scooby-Doo.
A bold challenge to the core of Christianity
Have you listened to any of John Alan Martinson Jr.s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the first time i have listened to John Alan Martinson Jr.'s narration. His delivery is deliberate and measured. The deep and authoritative tone of his voice and the subtle inflection he employs endeared me as the listener, taking me deeper into the content of the book.

    Language: English
    Release date: 09-12-17
    Publisher: Ignatius Press
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 8 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Men are rediscovering the importance of the spiritual life. And Father Larry Richards is helping them do it. While some writers apply a one-size-fits-all approach to the Christian life, Father Richards draws on his many years of ministry and his own experience as a man to inspire other men as men.
In Be a Man!, he recounts his struggles to learn true manhood, as well as the inspiring stories of others he has served in his decades as a priest. He tells men how to focus on the right goal, how to live as a beloved son of God, of the need to acknowledge one's faults and to live according to the Holy Spirit, to be a man of true love and of wisdom, to appreciate properly the differences between men and women, to pursue holiness, and to make a difference in the world. Not preachy but direct, Father Richards challenges men to be strong, without putting on a mask of false strength or machismo. He calls men to admit their weaknesses and limitations, while urging them to find strength in faith and genuine love to overcome their sins and faults.
Although a celibate priest, he minces no words when it comes to the place of sexuality - for the unmarried man as well as for the married man. He shows that true manliness is not opposed to love but thrives on it. Father Richards stresses that a relationship with Christ reveals the meaning of a man's life and his identity as a man. He inspires men to become the true heroes they long to be - men of authentic courage, compassion, and integrity. This is a highly listenable book for men by a man who knows how to talk to men about the things that matter most.

    This is a keeper
I bought this book (Kindle version) about a month ago. For me this is not a sit down and read it through in a few days kind of book. It is more of a journey. I have not finished it because there is so much to do in my life because of it. I have always been somewhat of a "radical" Christian, but often misguided. Father Larry takes the radical truth of Christianity, and presents it with wisdom and honor. In every sense this is a book for real men. If you are a guy that just wants to sit on the fence, and not "stand up" and "man up", then Father Larry's message is not for you. On the other hand if you have the guts to face life as it really is. And you have the nerve to see yourself as you really are, and how the living GOD wants you to be. Then get ready, after reading this book you will have not excuse. As others have said, really everyone needs to read this book. But for a man that is looking for spiritual direction this is a must read.
I would also add that this is one of the few books I have ever read that I know I will use as a reference for the rest of my life.
If you skip this book, your missing out with sincere, impactful and life changing words.
Using this for my men's small group. It's as good as John Eldredge's Wild at Heart, but it has accountability work at the end of each chapter. If applied by the reader, it's a life changer. I loved it. It will be hard for me to find a book this powerful and impactful to follow up with. It's a no nonsense, non kumbaya read that helps men to be the man that they were called to be.

As a 22 year old female in the middle of cultural relativism...
As a 22 year old female in the middle of cultural relativism I found this book extremely helpful. I was raised as a "fake Christian," for a lack of better words. I believed in God and prayed to him every night....and that was about it. I had no understanding of his love and had a culture-like understanding of "good" and "evil." As you could imagine, my years from 15 to about 20 were extremely difficult. Through the power of God, I was rescued from this "life" I was living. And since then, I have taken it upon myself to learn all the things I was not taught in my childhood. This book was extremely helpful in teaching me a lot of these principles and aiding in my spiritual maturity. Thank you Josh and Sean McDowell for a wonderfully applicable book that brought me much freedom in my life.
This is an important tool for anyone in Ministry
It is becoming increasingly more important to becoming aware and accepting of people with different moral views. I am a young adult pastor and I would love to create a young adult community where people who are truly far from God with differing opinions could feel safe and feel like they could belong, whether they believe in Jesus or not. My heartâs cry is that I would influence a generation of Jesus followers who will impact their college campuses with both love and truth. There was a reason why tax collectors and sinners drew close to Jesus; they felt loved so much that the painful truth was worth the relationship gained. I hope that could be true for our young adult group at The Church at Rocky. This book, has helped me take one step closer in that direction.
There is a clear distinction between Cultural Narrative and a Biblical Narrative. Whatever narrative we listen to will determine the basis of our moral decisions. It is the Biblical Narrative that gives us the understanding that intolerance can be a beautiful thing. The only good thing about someone adopting the Cultural Narrative of truth is that their views are not concrete and is, therefore, more likely to change to the biblical view.
The author, Sean McDowell, gives some beautiful illustrations of one time that he made a t-shirt saying âIntolerance is a Beautiful Ideaâ on the front while the back read: âMother Teresa was intolerant of poverty. Bono was intolerant of AIDS. Nelson Mandela was intolerant of apartheid. Martian Luther King was intolerant of racism. Jesus was intolerant of bigotry.â Sean makes his point clear in that those who follow the Cultural Narrative that says âIntolerance is Badâ would agree that there are very clear issues that shouldnât be tolerated.

    Publisher's Summary:
Join Thomas Merton in spellbinding lectures on two essential philosophical topics.
In this audio program, you will learn about the meaning of life and the essence of beauty with Thomas Merton, one of the 20th century's great thinkers. Delivered with unrivaled brilliance and insight, these remastered recordings of Merton himself will transport you into the abbey where he taught and imparted his spiritual wisdom.
In the first part, you will explore man's search for meaning. Merton draws from such diverse wisdom as the psychoanalysis of Viktor Frankl, the mysticism of Sufism, Hasidic lore, and the poetry of William Wordsworth to demonstrate how the search for meaning is essential to our existence. Meaning, he says, dwells deep within all of us, and we need only to root ourselves in spirituality to discover this.
Next you will look at the philosophical concept of beauty. As humans we are naturally drawn to the beautiful, whether in art or in nature. True beauty is transcendent, extending beyond the merely aesthetic, and it is essential to the spiritual life. Art and contemplation bring us to the highest form of pleasure - that is, the beauty of God. By understanding beauty, then, we thus move toward spiritual perfection and fulfillment.
These moving conferences delivered by Merton challenge the intellect and move the spirit. Listen to his timeless words today.

    Publisher: christianaudio.com
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
A woman overwhelmed is a phrase with which many women can relate. But what would happen if we could see the insanity in our pace and embrace our overwhelming God?
There is a reason they say that a woman's work is never done - because it isn't! As women, we often are overwhelmed by the demands and circumstances of life, resulting in stress, fear, worry, impatience, fatigue, frustration, and even depression. The truth is that we were created to be overwhelmed...not by life but by God! When we learn to be overwhelmed by God, the fruit in our lives goes from rotten to fragrant - filling our days with peace, hope, love, and joy.
In A Woman Overwhelmed, best-selling author Hayley DiMarco shares biblical insights and personal stories to offer a glimpse at the comedy of an overwhelmed life while encouraging us to discover the depths and heights of God's love and power.
Be empowered to find freedom in becoming overwhelmed with who God is - by learning to focus on what we know about God so that we can hold on to faith even when it seems that all is lost. For it is when an overwhelmed woman gives up the mission of me and exchanges it for the mission of God that being overwhelmed becomes a good thing.
Choose to bask in the abundance of the Father instead of the abundance of life as his unfathomable depths can surely replace our fathomable messes.

A hilariously wonderful picture of finding God
Hayley is painfully honest in seeing herself, and consequently most of us, and the futility of our efforts to control our circumstances and those around us. At times I felt she was watching me. Itâs heartwarming to see her perspective and compare it with scripture. A treasure to be read over and again, and constantly applied.

    Underwhelmed by A Woman Overwhelmed
I was given a free copy of A Woman Overwhelmed by Hayley DiMarco by Litfuse Publicity in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
So here are my unbiased thoughts: Do not waste your time on A Woman Overwhelmed.
There were parts of this book that I STRONGLY reacted against. That probably should have been a warning to me that this was not the book for me, but I pressed on and continued to read hoping that it would get better.
    It didn't get better.
Here are some of my biggest concerns from A Woman Overwhelmed:
The author almost lost me in the second chapter when she talked about opening up her computer to a "smorgasbord of hot Christian men" on a Christian dating website in order to find her true love. Not only is this the wrong example to set for other Christian women, but it also cheapens the marriage relationship to nothing more than physical attributes.
The author's use of colloquial phrasing seems to be an attempt to make her more relate-able to the reader. Unfortunately it just did not work and instead made the rest of the writing seems forced and pushy, as if she had to include the biblical stuff to sell the book.
The author seems to endorse a LOT of mainstream media including Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey. Both of these shows use sexual promiscuity, homosexuality, and rape to further their story line.

After my wife and I took over 80 people through the Good and Beautiful series by Jim Smith I have eagerly awaited his next endeavor. I am not disappointed. Jim has continued to encourage a spiritual discipline at the end of each chapter for participants to practice between classes. This practice really facilitates the learner's ability to think more deeply about the message and also helps table discussions. All of this drives home that the God we love is always approachable and desiring honest fellowship with each of us as He dwells within. This is not a hard read at all but it is not a light read. It is an approachable read that clearly helps us to think by providing tangible stories that each of us will be able to relate to, such as the dialogue with Rich Mullins. Jim provides an interesting analogy on how we are made in the image and likeness of God pointing out that our sinfulness never mars the image in which we are made but our sinfulness distorts the likeness of God in which we are made. Great food for thought and I like to ponder such things. There are many tidbits to nibble on in this Magnificent Story. Jim artfully brings the mystical union of the Trinity into focus by clearly presenting the uniqueness of the Godhead. His discussion questions at the end of the chapter will lead participants to a clearer understanding of a subject rarely encountered. The Magnificent Story is one you don't want to miss.
This book is profound, and I think it may be Jim's best work yet.
I don't often post reviews, but I feel compelled to for The Magnificent Story.
