Seems shes becoming forgetful, and the familys worried about her and Ben. Plenty of Saccharine and neurotic characters
At the risk of upsetting die-hard Debbie Macomber fans, this was the least favorite of her books that I've read. I found myself rolling my eyes most of the time. Why do these characters play such games? Grace, refusing to fall in-love with a puppy. I can't even remember the characters names anymore, and I just finished the book-- the whiny pregnant girl who ditched the hunky doctor (in the last book). Will and Miranda... good Lord, that was a boring and predictable thing waiting to happen. Worst of all was the whole Rachael fiasco-- with the bratty daughter. My eyes almost rolled permanently in the back of my head, when Rachael refused to accept money from Bruce, while pregnant with his child. Really? It seems like all the characters are just playing games-- heaping on the guilt and stubborn pride. All the story lines wrapped up in a neat little bow-- as predictably as I figured they would. This is good, clean reading. Nothing wrong with that, but I guess I've outgrown the Harlequin romance type of novels. Now, for an exciting history fiction-- with knights sweeping damsels onto the back of their horses, swords, fights, and all that stuff-- I'd rather read about women of character who have guts and courage. You won't find it here.
    What a Sweet Read
Sweet story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Debbie Macomber always gives us a good read and this book was right on the mark. Good job.
    Disappointed
What would have made 1105 Yakima Street better?
I felt, early on, there were too many characters. Maybe this is because I didn't start with the first book in the Cedar Cove series. I started with this one. The pretty cover picture pulled me in. At times, I felt like the writing seemed almost childlike. I could envision a high school senior typing away. I had a difficult time with most of the characters and their complaisant personalities. No one seemed to have any strength at all......everyone walks away from adversity and hopes it will all work out.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Probably going back to mystery...Lee Child or James Patterson.....even better, Michael Connelly.
Would you be willing to try another one of Sandra Burrs performances?
I felt her performance was probably decent for what she had to work with.
    Any additional comments?
This is one of the first books I actually want to trade in....get a refund.

    Parent guide! (not romance)
This book may be a great parent guide and if you have young or teenage children you may find it useful, otherwise if you are looking for a romantic read look elsewhere! After several tries I was unable to reach mid-way and had to call it quits.
Great Book w/ perfect character development.
Loved it!!! Could put it down. Kept coming back to listen to more...
    Not one of her best..
I have enjoyed the Barbara Delinsky books I have read but this one was so slow, so predictable. From the start the plot was thin and easy to anticipate what was going to happen. It left little to the imagination or anticipation as the book went along.
As for the reader, the delivery was awkward with very long, too long, pauses. Also, the reader had a very limited range of voices for the characters which made the book read more difficult to enjoy. Overall I just finished listening to be done with the book as the ending was totally predictable.
Could I recommend this book/reader? No on both counts.
    Suddenly
Overall the story was very good. The narrator's imitation of the leading man's voice was off putting to me and detracted from my enjoyment of the book.
    Quite absorbing
I enjoyed listening to this book although I thought it was a bit too long. I found the constant reflections on the dead character Mara a bit laboured and sometimes unconvincing. The story included romance, adoption, sexual abuse, marital problems and family issues so there is a lot to get your teeth into! It was not a demanding story but good escapism if you enjoy this genre.

Earlier Work - Still Worth the "Read"
I fell in love with Brockmann's Best Selling Troubleshooters, and when i found this series I figured it was where she 'cut her teeth' - setting her up for the success of the Troubleshooters.
It would appear that my presumptions were correct - but that did not detract from the enjoyment of the story for me!
I find the trip, not the destination, the most appealing in my stories. Yes, I could kinda predict where the story was going - but Brockmann made the trip interesting and fun.
And is that not the objective behind urban romance - fantasy - fiction stories? To be interesting and fun? Brockmann did both in this story, and i'm hoping Audible takes on the rest in this series!!!
    Loved this story!
This is the first book I've listened to by Suzanne Brockmann and I can't wait to listen to &/or read more of her stories!
I've listened to several audiobooks & this one is now at the top of my list of favorites! The narration is one of the things I consider when rating the audioibooks I listen to & this is a perfect example of how a well done naration (or in this case performance) truly enhances the story. Ashley Adlon is now one of my favorite narators (along with Savannah Richardson, Natalie Ross, Joyce Bean, and Renee Raudman, Sanda Burr and James Daniels).
This is a story you will honestly get lost in & while I usually only listen to audioooks in the car this one was so good I listened to it everywhere & anywhere since I just couldn't put it down!
    Pretty good read.
I thought this book had a good plot and developed the characters well. What I couldn't believe, is that for such intelligent people, they made the dumbest conclusions. It's a bits racy in sections, but overall I liked the book. It is definitely worth reading or listening to.
    Prince Joe
Great book. One of the best of Suzanne Brockmann's seal novels. It would be wonderful to get all the 11 in this series on audio.
    Love, Love, Love Prince Joe
If you could sum up Prince Joe in three words, what would they be?
This is the first book by Suzanne Brockmann that I have listened to and it was well worth the credit. All the makings of a present day fairytale. I have now begun the second book in this series and am enjoying it as well. How timely to enjoy a romantic, and thrilling
story about one of our Nation's finest...A NAVY SEAL...
The narrator, Ashley Adlon is one of the best that I have had the pleasure to hear. (and I have listened to over 200)! She does an amazing job with male and female voices and her accents are very believable.
I know that you will enjoy it too!

    Good story, horrible narrator!
Where does Honeysuckle Summer rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I have many audiobooks and this rates mid way through all of them.
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoy the connection of a group of women and their friendship over time.
Would you be willing to try another one of Mary Robinette Kowals performances?
I would prefer not to. I have all the books in this series , so I've listened to more of her than I care for. I can usually blank out the narrator if necessary and just go with the story, but I found myself thinking "This is really awful". She's okay when just reading but lousy at the voices.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Not really.

    Excellent Book!!!
The author really tells you alot about the characters and by the end of the book you feel like they are all your friends. Debbie McComber really touches on all the emotions of how it is starting over after losing "a better half" but it doesn't end sad but has more than one happy ending. Loved it!!
    another good macomber
this story is really fun - I'm still listening to it, so hopefully that will continue. However, I have a huge beef. Macomber's stories take place in Seattle, so please get readers who can pronounce Washington names. So far, Ivar's and Yakima are annoying me every time I hear them.
    totally unbelievable story
What disappointed you about Hannah's List?
First, the story was unbelievable. A man supposedly deeply in love with his dead wife, meets a woman, falls in love and is ready to marry her within a few weeks. Makes you question how much he really loved the first wife. He was so quickly ready to love and marry this woman who came across as a total airhead, that it actually made me dislike him. I don't think he really knew who or what he wanted, he just needed a wife. I kept listening hoping it would get better but it didn't.
Because other Debbie Macomber books have been so good, I kept listening. Unfortunately, this book got worse the further into I got. Just the way the doctor turned from grieving, to happy, to I want to get married so quickly it actually caused me to dislike the character.
Would you ever listen to anything by Debbie Macomber again?
Yes, other books by her have been very good.
What aspect of Fred Stellas performance would you have changed?
He was alright except his voice sounded like Rod Sterling. I kept waiting for him to tell me he had just entered the
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Hannah's List?
I would have made Macy a little less eccentric, the scene where she and the dr. made a salmon casserole together and then she realized it may have been cat food was cute, but then for them to go ahead and eat it, that was just stupid. She was too far out, and an organized doctor wouldn't adapt to that so quickly.
    Male voices for female parts
The richness of this story is completely diminished by the use of male voices to speak female lines.
    sappy
a little sappy... but i like sappy. i didnt care for the narrators different voices (he made it a little too sappy).

    Publisher's Summary:
If hes Cary Grant, wheres his Girl Friday?
Mitch Peabody was learning pretty fast that the life of a private detective was nothing like the movies. Hed envisioned a world of tough-talking detectives and smart-mouthed, stunning dames. Instead he saw case after case of cheating husbands, suspicious wives and unsuspecting mistressesuntil she walked through the door.
Right down to her stilettos, Mae Sullivan was a knockout with a lethal bodyand a lethal family to go with it. There was something not quite on the up-and-up about her, but she came with a case he couldnt afford to refuseand left him with a case of lust he hadnt had since high school. It didnt take long for him to fall for her, hook, line and sinker. But was Mae interested only in catching the double-crossing crooks who murdered her uncleor did the lady want to catch him?
    Editorial Reviews:
When Mae Sullivans uncle dies under suspicious circumstances, she enlists the help of Mitch Peatwick to get to the bottom of it all. The story of a murder, an unlikely romance, and all the craziness that happens along the way, What the Lady Wants is a fun ride from start to finish.
The narration is interesting. While the main characters are all in their early to mid-30s, the narration is done by a woman clearly older than that. Most of the time, her voice is spot-on, particularly with the female characters, flawlessly switching from emotions in a variety of accents. However, the male characters proved to be much more of a challenge, sometimes missing the mark, verging on becoming over the top and cartoonish. Normally, something like this would detract from the story, however, the whole plot is almost madcap, so the less-than-perfect narration fits in with the lighthearted flow of the story.
The story itself is a good combination of murder, action, drama, and spiciness and youre dropped into the action from the very first minute. Each character is well-thought out and given a solid background that keeps you guessing throughout the entire novel. Things arent always what they seem, giving What the Lady Wants a fresh feeling.
Jennifer Crusie occasionally gets a little repetitive with certain plot points, and drags some conversations out well past their point of being done, but overall, the action is constantly moving forward. Theres a good deal of suspense, as well as enough romance, driving the plot forward, as Crusie has a real talent for both genres, making this book appealing to a wider audience.
    Critic Reviews:
Wonderful, fresh, funny, tender, outrageousCrusie is one of a kind. (Booklist)
    Members Reviews:
    Story cute, narrator...so-so
The story was really interesting, I liked the characters and there was a lot of humor. The romance between the 2 main characters was good but the "who done it" part kept me wanting to listen. The narrator wasn't the best and at times her voice distracted from the story. She was not able to make difference voices for different characters so sometimes you didn't know who was speaking (they all sounded the same.)
I really like Jennifer Crusie's writing and the story was great and I would have given it 5 stars but felt I had to drop it back to 4 because of the narrator.
    Entertaining
What made the experience of listening to What the Lady Wants the most enjoyable?
Jennifer Cruisie is the best laugh-out-loud writer I have found. I think it is chick lit and I am a guy, not a chick, but I LOVE her stuff.

    Better Than Reading It Myself
I enjoy listening to audio books that were favorite reads for me in the past but rarely does the narration make the book even better for me. But in this case it was! The Golden Chance is one of my favorite Jayne Ann Krentz books and the wonderful narration with this audio version made it better than ever!
    Great Book!
Very nicely fleshed-out story with great characters and just enough romance. There were even a couple of twists I wasn't expecting. I was very pleasantly surprised and will look for more from this author.
    EXCELLENT!!
I highly recommend this audio book which is one of Jayne Ann Krentz' best. The book has a strong plot, well-developed characters, and a nice mixture of romance and mystery. I disagree with previous criticisms of the narration. Patrick Lawlor and Franette Liebow provided excellent narration that clearly distinguished the voices of each characters. I didn't want it to end, but alas it had to.
    Really enjoyed
Jayne Ann Krentz is one of my favorite authors and this book was pretty good. I really enjoyed having a male and female narrator they were great. Credit worthy.
    Throughly Enjoyable
I really enjoyed Phila Fox, and how she kept everyone in the Lightfoot clan on edge with what she was going to do with her shares of the companies stock. The story caught my interest from the beginning and kept it through out. I feel this was an involved family tale of intrigue and lies told under the guise of keeping up family appearances. It did not disappoint. I liked it.
The narrators were ok, I could have done without two of them, especially the female.

    Couldn't finish the book
I simply could not finish this book. I really tried, but the narrator ruined the book for me. Her tone and Southern accent were just too hard to cope with. I read all three books before this one and am reading number 5 now, but this one was simply awful. I never quit reading a book part way through, but this is one that I did. Sherryl Woods, please NEVER use this narrator again.
    Wonderful!
This is a fun progression of friendships. Enjoyed the read and would recommend it to girlfriends...good chic lit!
    Sweet story of friendship
If you could sum up Welcome to Serenity in three words, what would they be?
    sweet, friendship, long
    Any additional comments?
This was a sweet story of friendship & love, however for me, the book was too long. There were a few parts the story could have done without and made it a faster read, but that's just because I like books that read faster. It was good, but I couldn't give it 5 stars because it got boring in places.
    Terrible narrator
I like the series, but narrator is awful. Xe Sands is so much better! Will listen to next in series, but that's about it. Sherryl's other series are much better.
Whiny female lead and not so good narration
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes because it advanced the sweet magnolia's story but the female lead was bi-polar so most of the story was not enjoyable
Would you be willing to try another book from Sherryl Woods? Why or why not?
Yes because I loved the other sweet magnolia's and their stories.
What three words best describe Liv Andersons voice?
    Whiny, annoying and irritating
Did Welcome to Serenity inspire you to do anything?
    No
    Any additional comments?
Janette seemed sweet, intelligent and strong in her brief interactions in the first three books. She was all over the place in this book. She was bitchy to her boss, bitchy to a guy that she had just met and was supposed to be attracted to and then she had the nerve to be jealous of him after letting him know that she wasn't interested. And he did come on totally too strong but some of that was because she would flirt with him and then push him away and no one understood why most of the time, least of all him. At one point, I wanted him to just give Mary Vaughn a try rather than keep putting up with her irrational behavior!

    one of my favorites!
I loved the whole story. the author did a great job with the characters. the book was hard to put down.
    FUN READ !
This story has excellent narration and engaging storyline. A good way to pass your time..
    akward early effort
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I am a big fan of Brockmann's other books -- especially the last five or so SEAL Team series. On that basis, I thought I'd try this novel, one of her early (earliest?) efforts. Everybody starts somewhere, after all.
This is not a bad novel, but it is awkward and strained in tone, and the characters are less well rounded than those in later books. The narrator handled all the different regional and social dialects well.
Somehow it just didn't gel for me.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Hmmm. I'd rather see Izzy Zanella on a big screen, I think.
    The Bimbo and The Grouch
I took a chance on this older novel since I have enjoyed other Suzanne Brockmann books. Well I lost and wasted 3 hours before giving up.
First there was the blond bimbo who was too literally too stupid to live (when a mafia killer threatens your life don't stand there being an easy target). She was more concerned with her name than her safety, her clothes than survival.
Then there's the grumpy hard ass FBI agent who continues to work relentlessly to catch killers and ignore his 2 living children. Yes, it was sad that his oldest son was killed but I would think that he would value time with his remaining kids even more.
Since I didn't like either of the main characters, I found the story boring & annoying.
