Not the complete book...

I have read this book before and once I got to the end I knew that I was missing something. Just went to the library and checked out the book on CD, it is actually 18 hours and 45 minutes. About 1/2 of this book is missing. Called audible and got a refund and had no problem. This is a wonderful book but don't purchase through audible unless they add the rest of the book. The series is awesome and anyone that enjoys this genre should enjoy the book, just not through audible. I have been with audible for about 4 years and have bought 100's of books, this is the first that was not complete and as I said, I had no trouble getting a refund...........

I want my life back

Wow! I am never hard on books but this is the exception! Others said this book was bad and I thought I would try. I even went so far to get the next one to see if there was something I was missing.

Forget my money/credits! I just want my life back that I put into this!

Any book that you have to read the last 2 minutes 5 times to make sure you didn't miss something is just wrong!

All around Good Listen

The series was a good listen. Secrets is the first of the book series followed by Unforgotten then Echoes. I found parts of the book and series to be very slow but it came together in the end. I thought the characters of Rese and Lance to be a bit boring at times, but the knight in shining armour always comes through. Put your headphones on and clean your house. The time will pass.

Loved the hardcopy

I've read all three books in this series and really enjoyed them. The audio was just as good until we got to the end of part 2 and it seems that a major part of the ending is missing! That was disappointing! I'm hoping the next two books are complete!

WOW. Powerful and moving story

I was extremely moved by this story because unlike many other romances, it eloquently portrays the true difficulties of finding love for people who have been deeply wounded by painful experiences. Putney is known for not shying away from difficult topics, and female slavery-both in the East Indies, and the U.S. is a significant issue in this story. which is quite unique in that it begins at the end. As one of the main characters Alexandra says to Gavin , "We did things backwards, starting with disaster, marriage and then love." How they work their way back from events they could not control makes their story less a fairy tale and more a story of real human love with all its difficulties.

Sea Captain and international merchant Gavin Elliot has made his fortune in America and Asia, and he is heading back to London to set up a new office as well as to face his difficult family history. When he discovers British citizen Jeannette Warren in a slave market on his visit to a tropical Island, he tries to buy her, but the ruler decrees he must win her through a series of difficult physical challenges. Gavin frees Jeannette and marries her shortly after in an effort to preserve her reputation in London society.

Meeting Alexandra's relatives brings Gavin into contact with Dukes and Duchesses, members of the landed gentry, an institution he has learned to despise in America. Just wonderful!

This was an engaging, interesting historical romance. It's one of the better ones that I've read in a while. Michael Page was fantastic.

Downright Frothy

To describe this book as light reading is inadequate...it's so light it's downright frothy. I purchased this title 3 years ago because I enjoy reading seasonal books and was looking for something Thanksgiving-themed. As a previous reviewer wrote, the dialogue is definitely cheesy. It's also filled with tired clichés and characters speaking to each other in a manner found only in a high school writing course. Still, I've listened to it for 3 Thanksgiving seasons in a row...why? Because when Evanovich writes as the narrator rather than her characters, she provides vivid and inviting descriptions of Colonial Williamsburg, so charming and appealing you feel as if you were there, or at least you wish you were. It makes wading through all the cheese worth it.

Not her best one

I wasn't enamored by Thanksgiving. I had listened to a couple of her Stephanie Plum books and found them quite entertaining. This book (not a S. Plum story) was not as cleverly written.

Love the ending!

Another great Janet Evanovich--and C J Critt is a wonderful narrator!! It always makes me warm and fuzzy at the end!

Ok but not great.

Thanksgiving was a fun little holiday listen. I was not crazy about the narrator and the story was a little silly at times but that is kind of what you expect for fun short holiday themed books. I have read better but I dont regret buying this book it had many cute funny parts and was nice to listen to right before the holidays.

Feel Good Read

This is a good read when you want to escape and just listen and enjoy. This novel was well written, although the Italian accents weren't the best by the narrator.

Weak male and female, poor narration.

The storyline should have made for a great read but the female character was spineless and the male character insecure.....all made worse by the terrible narration. I have never disliked a narrator before but she was so wrong for this book it just ruined it.

LIght and fluffy does it.

This was my wife's choice and I decided to give it a listen. The narator is perfect - her vocalization of each character produced images of real people. While the story line is too predictable, it brought a welcome change to a steady diet of murder, intrige and mayhem. Don't expect much substance, however overall this is a delightful story with characters who are totally beliveable. Well done to both author and narrator.

Lighthearted romance and extremely funny!

Not doing it for me.

I began listening but had to stop C. J. Critt's voice just annoyed the hell out of me. The Stephanie Plum series is getting repetitive. I have all of them but decided not to buy the last one, so I borrowed it from our library. Started it and after 4 chapters I gave up. These stories are getting stale. I'm not a writer but I do know what I like to listen to and Ms. Evanovich isn't cutting it for me. Unfortunately I already purchased her latest Knight and Moon, I hope it's better, or no more Evanovich for me.

Yes. Susan Mallery's books are rather good, however this one wasn't. The characters where not strong enough for their own story.

This would have been a better sub-plot rather than the main tale. The story wasn't interesting. The characters lack depth.

This is one of those light easy reads, one that doesn't take that much brain power. I had a few issues which some has more to do with me then the book but at the beginning I was like GET ON WITH IT!....and I swear I know we have to do the doubt thing (what if) but seriously it started to get on my nerves. And if the repeated one more time what they were doing or were they came from I would of screamed. I think I may just out grown this type of book and was not in the right mood for it.

If you looking for an almost sickly sweet book then this is for you. If you don't mind a few too many repeats in statements then I say grab this book.

Standard

This was a completely standard romance novel. Nothing special in my opinion. There wasn't a good "meet que" because the characters had a past. Some of it seemed a little unrealistic and I was especially bogged down with her constant thoughts. I finally had to skip through some of the later parts of the story because I was irritated with the female character. The story is OK but its almost two stories going on at the same time past/present and neither one is really well developed. I'm saddened that this was a feature book on audible and will not make the mistake of assuming something is good just because it's featured!

AN EMOTIONAL ACTION PACKED STORY

A good follow-up to book 1 (but I did feel it wasn't quite as good) about a super sexy handsome Hot Shot fireman and what he goes through for love and that lucky lady needs him bad - in more ways than one. But a word of warning - you have to put away your reality gauge and enter knowing that this is total fiction with some implausible acts and situations (treat it like a Willis or Cruise film).

This one's about second chances as the h/h had been engaged briefly 10 years previously but a heartbreak had torn them apart. Now Dianna needs Sam again and he's right there but neither want to get their heart's broken again and try to resist the sexual chemistry that's pulling them together but, (as we all know and eagerly wait for) eventually it snaps. Tense, thrilling plot about revenge, kidnapping, human endurance and forgiveness not only for the lovers but for family members too as terror for one another brings some home truths and insight.

There was romance and sex scenes but they weren't hot - just loving passionate moments, and even though I felt this was a more diluted listen than the 1st one, I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment. Although there were slight references to something that happen in the previous book this could easily have been a stand alone listen.

Worth a credit? Well, if you're a romance lover and can overlook the implausible to get to the happily ever afters then press the Add To Cart button now.

The story is better than the title..

It's not that deep, but it was light, entertaining and less cheesy than most chick lit. The male character was a little one-note, but the female lead was sarcastic and kind of funny.

I found the narrator a little irritating in the beginning, but got used to her and thought she relaxed as the story went on. Generally enjoyable!

Cute...

I wouldn't say this is the best book I've listened to, but it was cute and funny. I think the character development was good and the story was well written, but it just didn't have the WOW factor of novels by the greats like Susan Elizabeth Phillips or Nora Roberts. But I will definitely try future novels by Ms. James. I think she has the potential to evolve her craft into something really special. NOT a waste of a credit. Narration was good as well.

Cute, Funny Romance

This was an enjoyable romance with a lot of funny moments. I wasn't super crazy about the main guy - he was a spoiled Hollywood star and was almost too spoiled to be likable, but I loved the main girl; she was smart, hilarious and didn't take any crap from the guy. I'd recommend the book if you want something light and funny. I also really liked the narrator. This is the first time I've listened to a book read by her and I'd definitely listen to another one.

Charming

This was a sweet romance. Yes it was a bit predictable, however it was charming. It is not as cleverly written as Molly Harper or Janet Evanovich but it did have a few places that made me laugh. All in all it was a fun romance story, if your looking for something without a lot of sex or offensive language I would recommend it!

Another easy listen

The start was a little slow but once the story picked up, it is super fun. The main characters have a lot of chemistry, the story is interesting enough, and enjoyable. I liked it and enjoyed the hook up scenes. Super fun. Perfect for unwinding after a LONG week. This is beach read worthy!

Brenda Jackson has wrote another great one...

Vergil's story was intimate and personal which is what Brenda Jackson is known for but I do not believe that the person who read the story on audio did a great job. I didn't believe that she did the story any justice and I didn't believe that the characters felt real. That is the point in me buying the audio books because I want to really feel apart of the story. Great story but I would have enjoyed more had I just read the book instead to buying the audio.

Another Brenda Jackson romance novel!

You will love this story of love and patience conquering all and how one's inability to forgive almost destroyed true love. Masterfully written.

Not too exciting and predictable

Didn't really enjoy this book. It was predictable and boring. It was a sweet story but nothing exciting about this story.
