Warden-Watch

This book definitely took me down a different road from what I was expecting. I knew there was going to be a spiritual element to it, but I did not think it was going to be a Christian element. There were many interesting parts, but being a Christian myself I wasn't super comfortable with some of the ways the Christian symbols were used so I probably wouldn't recommend this to a friend.

The narrator did a good job reading the book though the sound echoed a bit and it sounded like he was a bit far from the microphone.

If you could sum up The Warden-Watch in three words, what would they be?

Piercing the Veil. This book begins on the day that Casey is able to see and actively participate in the spiritual world around him. He enters a new realm and his reality will never be the same.

What other book might you compare The Warden-Watch to and why?

I would compare it to Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis because Casey (a young boy) enters another realm and meets spiritual characters. Warden Watch is also very well-written like Chronicles of Narnia. The author delights in language and plays well with words. It also reminds me of the movie, The Matrix because it uses symbols of salvation in a very edgy way.

Have you listened to any of Locust & Honey Publicationss other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I am a fan. This is a great production by Locust & Honey.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

You would want to because the story is very good. At almost 5 hours, it would be impossible. Nobody has that much time. It took me three sittings to finish this story and I looked forward to every installment.

Any additional comments?

Very clean and very family friendly. There are some references to blood and drinking blood, but they are symbolic not horror/graphic. No gratuitous violence. Great book. I highly recommend.

Monotonous and poorly written

I did not manage to finish this but I got to Chapter 9 so feel I gave it a good go. This book was not helped by the monotonous and robot like voice it was read in. However it was also extremely badly written, everything is over explained and it feels as though someone has gone through with a thesaurus to add more complex words that do not quite fit. "Dollops of sweat". The storyline of this book is intriguing but not enough for me to put up with the long winded similes and poor writing.

I am so sorry I asked to review this edition of this. I could not get past the 2nd chapter. The narrator's voice didn't change pitch the whole time I listened. And all the son's of blew me away.

Oh no

While I am not a hugh fan of paranormal romance, I thought I would try this one. Now I wish I hadn't bothered. Maybe this was a mid series offering and so I was coming in the middle but I was lost from the beginning. It is ok to have immortal characters, but let us know why and how they are here

The Rival--A Rare, 3-Gem Novel

Sometimes a book comes along that strikes me as rare, a gem, if you will. The Rival: The Legend of Victor Standish is one of those books. #1 gem: An urban fantasy filled with historical figures, ingeniously woven throughout. Not to give anything away, but readers won't be disappointed. In fact, as the main character time travels to 1834 New Orleans, I had hundreds of moments where I found myself smirking (and giggling) at Victor Standish, and the way he handles himself when in the most precarious situations. Prepare to face many creepy supernaturals, and by creepy, I mean way beyond sparkly monsters.

Speaking of Victor, the #2 gem of the novel, one cannot help but adore him! A literary legend, hell yeah. His dry, witty humor will crack the face of the stoniest of souls. Victor and I have a special bond, as he helped me through a tough surgery last month by telling me the most ridiculous jokes. He will remain in my mind for years to come. If he'd allow me, I'd adopt him. His unworldly love for his classy, Victorian ghoulfriend, Alice, brought me to tears more than once. "I wasn't an orphan anymore. Tommy One is packed with action and fun characterization

Tommy One and The Apocalypse GunHey, this was a fun book! It starts with a gruesome death and keeps on popping after that. The chapters are super short, basically any time there's a scene change it's a new chapter. That's really my only complaint because it reads quickly at a rat-a-tat pace.

The story? Well, the hero is Tommy One, a teenager who's a superhero in the 1950s (I think, judging from the cars used). He's well-liked and seems incredibly tenacious to the public and his enemies but otherwise has no apparent superpowers. They think he's just a teenager in a costume. What's to like? He just never seems to give up no matter how many times he gets knocked down. His secret (not a spoiler) is that he gets killed a lot and is replaced by a clone each time.

That's all just the background though. He's put up against a brilliant scientist-crime lord who has invented a Tesla-like cannon. It's up to all the Tommy Ones to stop the bad guy and all his cronies.

My favorite parts of the book are when Tommy teams up with his next-door neighbor, a teen age girl. Their dialogue is fun and interesting and I love how they are emotionally attached to each other. Both of them are teenagers, they're a bit emotional at times and that's a nice touch. At the same time, the two of them show some quick thinking that makes them respectable heroes as well.

This is essentially an action novel though, and there's plenty of that in the vein of a light sci-fi movie. Gun fights, crazy technology, brawls, explosions and everything you expect in an 80s cartoon or an all-audience pulp magazine adventure like Tarzan or Indiana Jones.

What's the readership level? Generally, I'd say PG-13, and it only goes that high because of some of the killing involved, but with a "power" like Tommy One's, you have to expect that, I guess.

Still, it's a winner. I hope to see more coming along from the publisher.

Exciting from beginning to end

Wasn't disappointed with this story!!! A creative page turner to say the least.. Can't wait for the next installment of Tommy One...

I enjoy how the author puts their thoughts into words for ...

The sorceress, Nemeila, crash landed in the woods as babyâin a spaceship. She is rescued by a wolf. Now if that doesnât hook your interest right away, I donât know what will. Nemeila is taken in by a woodsman and his wife and is raised as their daughter. But thatâs not the end of the story. We meet Nemeilaâs real mother and an evil sorcerer who is her nemesis. Nemeilaâs adventure includes traveling to another land to rescue a prince when the sorceror kills his father. In addition to the wolf, the story includes a dragon, an eagle, and a horse. While the animals canât talk, I enjoy how the author puts their thoughts into words for the reader.

This novel is perfect for middle grade readers and up. The character of Nemeila instantly makes you root for her. Parlan and Tyler, the prince and his friend, are also well developed characters. The conflict is great, plausible with just the right amount of magic.

The very best news of all is that the author is planning five more books in this series. We donât have to leave Nemeila and her wolf yet!

The Fairy Godmothers Union is back!

The Stellar Guild series hopes to help new authors get a jump start on being discovered by pairing them with established authors. I really enjoyed The Magic Touch by Jody Lynn Nye and was delighted to discover that it had a sequel, of sorts. This is the Fairy Godmothers Union novella Wishing on a Star. Wishing on a Star was published in 2015. Ms. Nye wrote Best Wishes, the next chapter in Ray & Rose's story, and

then newcomer Angelina Adams wrote a companion novelette Homecoming about one of the new characters, Vicki.

I just read both recently on my Kindle.

I highly recommend both short works of fiction and I really do hope Ms. Nye is able to write more Fairy Godmother Union books!

Youth Adults only

First go read the ad copy about the book. Both stories take play in Nye Fairy Godmothers Universe. This book screams that it was written for the tween crowd and covers adult situations happening to kids. Since was written for youth, I had trouble getting into it. The new comer author does a good job give the backstory about the genie, and how the genie is dealing with coming out her lamp. That bump the book up to 3 stars.

Loved the book, well done. A God read.

Intriguing twist on an old tale

The Stellar Guild format works well for this volume. The established author, Jody Lynn Nye, leads with a sort novel that lends a modern twist to the genie in a lamp granting three wishes traditional tale. Inevitably the wishes lead to trouble as the initial wish-recipient tries to broker further wishes to friends and aquaintances. The story is set in Chicago (not the first time that city has been the location for urban fantasy) and features a number of other supernatural beings (fairy godparents, sandmen) and mentions a number of others (brownies, witches, efreets and demons) most of whom lead outwardly normal lives - the hero figure is a student - that are organised into guilds and unions. It transpires that the genie has somehow slipped through the guild net - and this leads into the second part of the book with the newcomer author, Angelina Adams. Making full use of the change this part follows the genie in her new home location and the change in narrative style works to advantage.

A riot

I picked up this book because Suzanne is a riot to read. And I use that uncareful word carefully. Like an actual riot, Suzanneâs stories can be loud, fast, funny, full, purposeful and end with a lot of broken glass and blood. Her novel length work is no different. This book moves and moves and moves. I enjoyed the blending of genres and moods - gritty procedural, shadowy horror and a hint (only a hint, I actually wanted more) of rom-com just to throw you off. She is a skillful writer. You can sit back, read and relax, knowing that she will continuously entertain.

Ménage à trois with Suzanne Church

If you havenât tried it and were curious about a ménage à trois, try Suzanne Church. She knows how to do it masterfully. She did it before and she does it now again in a manner that will sent shivers down your spine. For the sensations she gives us, we all thought she has a pen to help her in the process. You know, one of those antique, ivory with feathers at one end and a gold tip at the other. And ink dark like dried blood. But, apparently, she does it all with just a keyboard. The times we live in.

Her last one she called Soul Larcenist. Not for the faint of heart. For those brave enough to venture into Suzanneâs painful imagination, the ménage à trois waiting for you is a mélange of horror and thriller with a dash of science fiction.

She grabs hold of you from the first moment, thrusts you on rusty iron hooks and drags you all the way to Hell and back before you have time to think if you can endure the journey. I can tell youâthe thrill, the pleasures, the whole experience leaves you gasping for air and wishing you still have the strength to dive in again.

Thatâs the kind of stories Suzanne writes. Thatâs the kind of experience, Soul Larcenist offers you. The cliché most reviewers useâitâs a must readâdoesnât do her novel justice. Would you listen to The Stars Bleed at Midnight again? Why?

Yes, the book surprised me. Wonderful writing and great narration. So many characters and interesting twists. Yeomans has a knack for the human condition and displays it in a fascinating world.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Samuel Clemens and Oscar Wilde. What a wonderful partnership.

What does Robert Rossmann bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Hard to believe that one actor is creating so many characters, each with their own easily identified personas.

Any additional comments?

Loved it, it is a great find. I am going to look for Roland Yeomans and Robert Rossmann's other books.
