Today we launch our Advent series titled the “Songs of Christmas.” Our hope is to freshly stir affections around the wonder of the incarnation that Jesus, is Emmanuel God with us! We are asking that the Spirit would take the old- old-story, and blow our minds away with new wonder as we see together how the great Author entered the story that He wrote, to weave us into the epic redemptive story He is still writing. This morning, we begin in Luke 1:46-56, with Mary’s song of faith-filled wonder and joyful submission to the sovereign goodness of God.

This morning we have the privilege of being served by Mark Dever. Mark is the senior pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington DC and the the author of numerous books. Mark is also the president of 9Marks, a ministry that exists to promote healthy churches. Today, Mark will discuss what it means to use the Lord's name in vain in Deuteronomy 5:11 and how we as Christians are called to be ambassadors for Christ in our words and actions during our daily lives.

Today, we end on the Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector found in Luke 18:9-14. This parable is a beautiful, yet shocking, picture of the upside-down nature of the kingdom of God. It confronts us with the all-important question, “How do I know where I stand with God?” and is a fitting conclusion to our series.

Today, we reach the Parable of the Rich Man & Lazarus, found in Luke 16:19-31. In this unique parable Jesus is soberly calling us to examine our lives in regards to what we value the most; what we are truly living for; and what that says about the condition of our hearts.

This morning we are continuing our series, The Parables of Jesus: Windows into Reality, in which we are exploring ten of Jesus’ most famous parables. Today, we reach the Parable of the Vineyard Workers, found in Mt. 20:1-16. This parable highlights God’s extravagant grace and the human heart’s propensity to envious grumbling. It shocks us with God’s undeserved favor, warns us against heartblinding envy, and sends us into the city with good news at the eleventh hour.

Today, we reach the Parable of the Prodigal Son, found in Luke 15:11-32. This parable, is among the most influential and loved of all of Jesus' parables. It’s a beautiful story, but its not merely a story. Ultimately, this parable is a life-changing and soul-thrilling window into God's compassion for lost sinners—like you and I.
