Love has been largely distorted in our culture. We want it so bad, we sin to get it and lose love entirely. Paul reminds us that if we are going to truly love others, then we must reflect the example of Jesus, renounce worldly counterfeits to love, renounce worldly speech, and resolve to live in agreement with your eternal destiny.

Man-centered duty or Spirit-led delight?

As we begin small groups, Ephesians 4:12-16 gives us a great glimpse of our purpose as a church. This message is a critical one for the life and direction of our church. In a culture with high church experience and low Biblical discernment, these words of Paul are never more timely to give up childish ways and press on towards maturity in Christ.

These two verses are called a doxology, which means an expression of praise to God; and the word “doxa” from doxology focuses on praising God for the brightness and radiance of His presence with us. In other words, He’s made the church the focus of His incredible grace, and He’s given us the power to live for Him. This is the culminating point of the first half of Ephesians.
