This episode of the Dr. B Show features Paulina Lopez, the CEO and founder of Business of We. Paulina talks about how she earned her stripes in the financial sector, how she navigated the male-dominated construction industry, and her thoughts on the phenomenon today known as "The Great Resignation". Additionally, Paulina also shares some practical tips for those who want to take a leap of faith and become entrepreneurs.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTES
Paulina: "Entrepreneurship is not for everyone. It's not for the faint of heart. It requires skills. I always share how important it is to do your work and really understand how you have to build your confidence. You have to build your leadership and you have to build your network."
Paulina: "You don't have to commute to work anymore. They realized that that's where they were putting a lot of their time and energy and efforts into it. And it's really changed the game."
Paulina: "Don't take the leap right away. It might not happen overnight. And if you don't have the mindset, haven't done your own work, you're going to feel the overwhelm immediately. You're going to feel self doubt and the lack of confidence taking immediately."

In this episode of the Dr. B Show Podcast, Dr. B talks to the Vice President of Mortgage Lending at Guaranteed Rate, Luis Sanchez-Santana. Having signed up at 17, Luis learned the ropes of leadership from his military training and continues to apply those skills in real estate and as training officer in the New Jersey Army National Guard. Luis also talks about the main reasons why many Americans nowadays are having a difficult time purchasing property, and why he thinks the currently volatile real estate market will stabilize itself eventually.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTES
Luis: "I went through different stages of leadership, but every stage taught me something new. It taught me to be adaptable and understand that no matter where you go, it's always about the people. Regardless of what business organization or anything you are in, you always gotta treat people as people first before anything else."
Luis: "The biggest thing that keeps people from actually qualifying for a home is credit. And that's just because people don't realize that they have to monitor their credit up until they are ready to buy and then they realize that their credit isn't where it used to be."
Luis: "If you're planning to buy a house, you should probably start looking at your credit, your income, your assets about two years out and figuring out the stuff you need to do in order to buy a house. Don't wait until the day that you're ready to buy a house. Do it prior to, and be ready to buy a house when the time comes."

In this episode of the Dr. B Show Podcast, Dr. B talks to educator and entrepreneur Randy Gomez. Randy is the CEO and Founder of the Academy of Young Leaders, a proactive learning program that utilizes experiential workshops to provide high-school students with career clarity.
Randy talks about the need to expose kids to more career options such as trade schools, as opposed to just going to the 4-year college diploma route. She also talks about her decision to leave her 9 to 5 job at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to become an entrepreneur.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTES
Randy: "The whole stigma behind that everyone has to go to a four-year college, it has to stop. Trade schools are amazing. We all need a plumber, we all need an electrician. The world has a place for everyone and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that."
Randy: "When you learn about these things and when you hear that this is how the money is being split up, you understand that there's a lack of resources. And these educators are truly doing the best that they can with what they've got. They're literally like the song said, 'tryin' to make a dollar out of 15 cents.'"
Randy: "When the universe aligns with what you do on a daily basis, you really do not work another day of your life because it is all fun and play and you're just happy to be making money on the way."
Randy: "That's a huge pain point, that right now the education system cannot keep up with the technology and what's happening in the world of finance. So if we're able to provide that workshop for the parents for their peace of mind, and now for the educator to know that yes, I'm teaching social studies, math, and all that, but this program is covering that part of the education that they need to know today."

In this episode of the Dr. B Show Podcast, Dr. B talks to real estate consultant and entrepreneur Royce Blackwell. Royce talks about the skills that have served him well from selling cars to real estate and eventually in starting his own business. He also talks about the current trends in the real estate industry and gives tips for people who may want to buy and/or sell property in the near future. Spoiler alert: it’s currently a seller’s market, but it may not be for very long.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTES
Royce: "What helped me most recently is being more organized. Because when you're unorganized, even with your schedule and just in general when you’re starting to get clients, get a CRM so you can organize your business and let the CRM do its job."
Royce: "It's a good time to buy if you're ready to buy. It is a seller's market, people are paying a little bit over asking. But if the interest rate is lower, then their buying power is more."
Royce: "It's a case-by-case basis. But I think more so the lack of information and just the market being saturated and it being a seller's market. Not planning far enough in advance to start saving money. If you want to buy a house and now it's very competitive, if you can put down more of a significant downpayment, you look like a better candidate."

In this episode of the Dr. B Show Podcast, Dr. B is joined by finance executive, author, speaker, consultant, and podcast host, Carolina Veira. Carolina talks about the work that she does for multiple organizations including Hispanic Star, a network that champions the Hispanic community.
Carolina talks about the importance of volunteerism, education, and why the Hispanic community needs to continue work for representation today. Hispanics have the right to be heard, but like everybody else, that opportunity needs to be earned, and will not be given.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTES
Carolina: "When we unite and we see what we can be, reflected on other people who have achieved the success that we want for ourselves, then we get stronger as a community."
Carolina: "We need to be seen, we need to be heard and to be taken into account and to be brought to the table. If they don't let us sit at the table, then we bring our own chairs, our duffel bags, whatever it is. Just sit there and be part of the conversation and create allyships."
Carolina: "To me, education is fundamental for the growth of anyone, of any human being. It's not only what you learn from the books, but the exposure that you get to what other people are thinking, to ideas, to connections. It's another way of networking, right? It's connecting to those future leaders."
Carolina: "We still need to show who we are not only to those who don't know much about our culture and who we are, but also to ourselves, to our own Hispanic brothers and sisters. Because there's a lack of ownership of our voices. There's a lack of representation in the sense that we don't believe in ourselves, we don't believe that we're capable of great things, we have been raised to be quiet."

In this episode of the Dr. B Show Podcast, Dr. B welcomes mathematician and founder of the Hispanics Inspiring Students’ Performance and Achievement or HISPA, Dr. Ivonne Diaz Claisse. Dr. Ivonne talks about the need to provide more role models for young people who will validate their dreams.
Dr. Ivonne believes in the potential of young people, they just need to be exposed to the different opportunities that are available today at an early age. Through HISPA, Dr. Ivonne hopes to show young people the path to success, and equip them with what they need to get their desired career.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTES
Dr. Ivonne: "When you study mathematics, I always say, you can take any job. I always say that when you have an analytic mind, you are a problem solver. And we have to say that those are the skills for the future. We don't know what the jobs of the future really are. But if we focus on educating students and giving them the opportunity to really look at problems and look for solutions and be creative."
Dr. Ivonne: "Now I see a problem in society. Not having access to a role model is a roadblock for our youth. That should not be the case. So let's eradicate that problem. It's just looking at it, and then finding how do we optimize the solution for that. We are optimizing the time of the individuals that are volunteering, and we are optimizing the times of the schools and the students. So it becomes a math problem."
Dr. Ivonne: "Adelante si se puede. My phrase is Soñar no pues te nada. Let's allow ourselves to dream. Dreaming costs nothing."

In this episode of the Dr. B Show Podcast, Dr. B welcomes Erica Sandoval, Founder of Sandoval Collab, President of the National Association of Social Workers - NYC Chapter, host of the Latinx In Social Work Podcast, and author of Latinx in Social Work: Stories that heal, inspire, and connect communities.
She shares the realities of Latinx communities with racism and microaggressions and how she empowers them through collaboration and community. Erica discusses limiting beliefs and how giving a voice to Latinx social workers is her way of inspiring others into action as well.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTES
Erica: "I've always been working with clients as a clinician and I decided, you know what, why don't I just take a leap of faith and get my clinical license and really start my own practice especially because there weren't enough mental health providers for Latinos."
Erica: "It's lonely and infuriating and exhausting to constantly be aware of race and not have the same be true of white colleagues and professors who overwhelmingly make up the profession. So I found solace with other social workers of color that they validated my experience with racism and microaggressions in the workplace and shared similar sights."
Erica: "Erica: "I'm a big, big proponent of training and coaching incredible students and young social workers to ask for raises, to ask for equitable salaries, to really know their worth, to know what their bottomline is, to really understand the language. And if we start speaking that language and supporting each other and not being shy about speaking about money, we're going to be able to enter into these spaces."

QUOTES
06:00 "I think (corporations) struggle with (diversity) because they don't really treat it as a must-have. They treat it as a nice to do. And for so many years it's been viewed as not a business imperative and something that they're doing for PR purposes."
08:01 "Let's test it out with a function, with a division. Let's get feedback. Let's get focus groups together so that when we roll out a program that's enterprise-wide, it actually has a true chance of having real impact."

17:34 "Entrepreneurship sounds very sexy and sounds very exotic for a lot of people, but it is the hardest work that you will ever have to do."
