Dr. Edward Reece: Leveling Up Spinoplastic Surgery

Listen Later

In this Leveling Up episode of the PRS Global Open Deep Cuts Podcast, Dr. Edward Reece discussed the details of spinoplastic surgery - what exactly it is, why it’s needed, the indications for this type of surgery, the technical details of harvesting pedicled posterior iliac crest bone grafts for spinal fusion, how to avoid damaging retroperitoneal structures, other pedicle bone graft options like scapula, rib, and occipital skull, potential future advancements such as innervated vascularized free bone-muscle-bone flaps, drain management in these patients, the pitfalls to avoid, and what type of car you should consider. Dr. Reece is joined by Dr. Max Shout (PGY6) and Dr. Niki Van Spronsen (PGY4), Casey Martinez (a fourth year medical student), and Caroline Onstott, PA-C.
