This is so exciting that I had to find and interview one of the most famous scientists behind
Dr Jeffery Schwartz is a medical doctor, research psychiatrist and researcher in the field
of self-directed neural plasticity and author of over 100 books, including the new one, You Are
I interviewed Dr. Schwartz for you. This medical doctor, psychiatrist, and researcher
exudes high-energy, has deep faith, and loves his work. He was adviser for Martin
Scorsese’s film, Aviator, about Howard Hughes. Now Schwartz is helping people like you
and me learn to rewire our brains so we can get the results we want and become the
At the heart of his breakthrough approach is the understanding that you are something other than
the material. That’s why you can be separate from your brain, mindful of it, and actually rewrite
it. Hence the title of his book.
Dr. Schwartz is a man of science, wrote a mesmerizing science-based book in 2002 called, The
Mind and the Brain: Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force, and yet he is also a
spiritual man, and isn’t afraid to say so.
He doesn’t declare where thoughts come from, but suggests some of them serve you and others
are “deceptive brain messages.” The latter you can learn to hear but not obey.
I told Dr. Schwartz that in most of my books, such as The Attractor Factor, I call limiting beliefs
what he calls deceptive brain messages. Both are thoughts that don’t serve your highest goals.
I interviewed him for you for this month's issue of Hypnotic Gold. Along the way we discussed
Willpower - Willpower is the effort that you make to direct your attention. One of the
things we’re trying to do is get your mental images to work for you so that it enhances
your capacity to direct your attention adaptively, which translates into enhancing your
capacity to use your willpower effectively to help yourself
His Four Step Process – change begins with this clear formula
Decisions - using the term deceptive brain message which is a big part of the book – you
are trying to fine your true self. You’re trying to find your true self by what we call the
wise advocate. The wise advocate is a key, key part of the book and wise advocate is
very much similar to mindful awareness, very related to mindful awareness.
That you have something inside you or a capacity to direct your mind that goes above
what your brain is sending you, but you still have to make the decision to listen to it, to
pay attention. To go with the good and not with the bad. To go with the wholesome and
not the unwholesome and calling it a brain message is a way that we came up with to
make people realize this doesn’t have to be yourself. It might be your brain and it might
be your brain right now, but your brain can change
That’s changeable by having a higher concept of what the self is capable of and being the
self you want to be and using your wise advocate to direct you to become the self you
want to be. So the deceptive brain message concept interfaces with the wise advocate
true self-concept by saying, “Your brain is sending you a lot of bad messages that are not
the self you want to be. Focus on the self you want to be. Form mental images and direct
your willpower in ways that enhance your capacity to become the self you want to be and
when you direct your attention in that way your brain will become the brain you want it
to be and those deceptive brain messages will diminish markedly and often go away
