After 8 years of being, and staying  on a ketogenic diet, I speculate as to the benefits of keto seen through the eyes of one's personal deficiency. In other words, are the benefits of being on a ketogenic diet greatest for those who were most deprive of, or deficient in, ketones in general. 

It is a great question to ask and explore. It values metabolic transition that 'going keto ' implies but also values ones addition deficiencies as additional benefits one can add to their transition to achieve a more complete increase in their health. 

It's harsh to consider that such an event could well ensure globally for some many.  It's not the 'how to improve your health' kind of information that is easy to discuss, yet it is completely likely according to the Health Agencies that work with indigenous peoples world wide.

This begs the urgent question of: Why is this population of people so affected by processed foods, and of course what can be done to reverse this trend.

The bigger question is, are indigenous people really so different or are they merely the most sensitive to the life-threatening toxicity process foods, and if that is true than aren't we all next in line for the same fate?

Clearly the evidence exactly that given the well documented hyper-increase inf chronic diseases in the US and western economies in general.

Key takeaways here are that you must step up your personal responsibility in terms of knowing your own health status via understanding your labs in general, including your genomomic mutations and other blood work. The days of waiting for your doctor to tell you what you need do are fading away.

I bet you thought it was ENTIRELY about the carbs you were eating that were responsible for your weight gain, or slide into mild cognitive impairment.

Well, you're not entirely wrong, however, having lots of carbs puts an increased demand on your ability use and produce choline. High carbs are one of the reasons for the choline deficiency, the other reason is that some people 25 - 40+ percent are limited in their abilty to use and manufacture choline (from Bile, to acetyl choline a vital neurotransmitter, and more). 

Having high carbs (carbs in general), not consuming enough choline (egg yolks and liver) and having specific SNPs (single nuclear polymorphisms) that predispose you to not being able to use choline well, or at all, puts you unequivocally at risk for cognitive impairment, dementia, and NAFD, if not obesity as well.

The GOOD NEW is that it is correctable without medications through dietary changes.

I kid you not.

This has been asked for often, that is what can I expect to happen with my labs when I start 'keto'.  That is a very broad question, so I have ignored in favor of a more specific narrower topic.

However, it is time to take a shot at creating an overview of what one can expect to happen with their labs. One central theme to this answer is so so much depends on where (ie what metabolic state) one is starting.  We are very different from eachother metabolically, genomically, and nutritionally and those differences should be taken into account. We are not robots, or cars that just need an annual tune up, but we do need an annual evaluation via lab work, in my opinion.

Nothing like learning of a friend's avoidable death, and seeing the devastation it creates in other people lives that were close to him.

What I'm referring to is that I Lost a friend to covid these last few weeks… 
just when we all thought the worst of it had past us by.

Like the last soldier to die in a war after the end of the hostilities, but before it was declared officially over.

He had all of the ‘co-morbidities’ big time in addition to having ethnic pre-dispostion to obesity and diabetes by being Samoan. He lived in a different context of life from mine, followed a different ‘norm’ and now was leaving a different legacy as well. At 49, 5 kids, loving wife, the virus found him.

I write this here, now, because spreading the knowledge of metabolic health (which is really what this FB group is) is NOT a FAD but life saving information, should you choose to use it. It really is

It is on our shoulders to become healthier and to teach, show, our children and friends that it is possible and it a value worth striving for … forever. 

My hope is that you never see ‘Keto’ as a fad to lose weight only. It is so much more than that.

Life, is something which we have a personal responsibility to appreciate, respect, and, learn how to be better for ourselves. Our health is part of that learning.
