The immediate context is important. In Romans 15:25–28, Epistle to the Romans discusses a collection of money being gathered from Gentile believers in regions such as Macedonia and Achaia for poor Jewish Christians in Jerusalem. The idea of "present truth" can be a legitimate religious concept, but it has also been one of the most common tools used by authoritarian religious movements and cults.
The phrase itself comes from Scripture. For example, the Apostle Peter refers to believers being established in the "present truth" (2 Peter 1:12). In its original context, Peter is not introducing a new doctrine that overturns previous revelation. Rather, he is reminding Christians of truths already revealed and presently applicable to them.
