🎙️ Guest Spotlight: Dr. Thakgalo Thibela
At age 16, she received a bursary from the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and enrolled at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) to study medicine. At the age of 21, Dr. Thibela became the youngest female medical doctor in South Africa, earning her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from Wits University.
🌍 International Recognition
Dr. Thibela became a Golden Key International Society Member during her time at the university. In January 2022, she was honored among 200 Young South Africans by Mail & Guardian, showcasing her impact and potential on a global stage.
🌐 Current Challenges
Despite her incredible achievements, Dr. Thibela currently faces the challenge of unemployment, a situation shared by over 800 doctors in South Africa. Her willingness to serve anywhere in the country and her openness to opportunities globally reflects her dedication to her calling. Driven by a desire to help people, the current inability to practice medicine has taken a toll on her well-being.
