  • Munchkin

Hello listeners! Welcome back to Dragon’s Demize, where today we are reviewing Munchkin. Munchkin is a popular card-driven game in which players compete to be the first to level 10. Along the way, you can acquire new gear, gain powerful spells, and generally screw over your opponents. It’s full of goofy tabletop references, which definitely helps drive its popularity. Greg and Jakub have… thoughts about Munchkin, so tune in for the full review!

  • Kingdom Builder

Welcome one and all to Dragon’s Demize! This week’s review: Kingdom Builder! Kingdom Builder is a relatively territory control game in which the goals and abilities change every time. The core of the game involves building settlements on different types of terrain. Each player can place three settlements per turn. Additional abilities and points are earned by building next to special structures unique to each modular section of the board. Final scoring is based on a set of criteria chosen at random at the beginning of each game. Kingdom Builder offers some solid gameplay and tons of replayability. Check out the full review for more thoughts!

Also this week is Tales from the Tabletop. Greg and Jakub recount their adventures from our first session of Starfinder!

Thank you to Agata Poniatowski for the Artwork and Strangelette for the music. • International Women’s Day

Hello listeners. Today we’re bringing you a very special episode of Dragon’s Demize. March 8 was International Women’s Day, and we thought it would be a great opportunity to talk about the importance of positive female representation in board games. Lesley joins Greg and Jakub for a look at some of the games we think do a standout job in this area, including Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, Scythe, and Dragon & Flagon. This episode is in no way comprehensive, and representation is only one aspect of making gaming an inclusive hobby. But we are excited to be a part of these conversations, and we encourage you to share some of your favorite games with an abundance of well-characterized female characters.

Thank you to Agata Poniatowski for the Artwork and Strangelette for the music. For more information about Dragon’s Demize, or to let us know your ideas, check us out on Facebook, Discord, and Google+. We’re also on Twitter and Instagram if that’s more your speed. Finally, you can find all of our streams, vlogs, and other video content over on our Youtube channel or catch us live every Wednesday on Twitch.

  • Sentinels of the Multiverse

Welcome back to Dragon’s Demize, the podcast about what happens on, around, and behind the tabletop. On this episode, we’re joined once again by Lesley, who brings the enthusiasm for our review of Sentinels of the Multiverse! Sentinels is a co-operative card game for 2-5 players where you play as superheroes facing down a villainous mastermind. With a playful style and unique decks for each hero, the game is tons of fun. Check out the full review for all our thoughts.

Also, on this installment of What We’ve Been Playing, the gang talks about Empires of the Void II, Kingdom Builder, and Rising Sun.

  • Zombicide Black Plague

Welcome listeners to the episode we’re all been waiting for. Sometimes we played it. Sometimes we avoided it because we hated getting murdered by Crowz. But it was always there: Zombicide Black Plague! That’s right, it’s finally time to review the original Dragon’s Demize stream game. Zombicide is on the shortlist of games we played the most in the last year or so, so we obviously have a lot to talk about. This is one episode you won’t want to miss!

We also kick things off with some great Tales from the Tabletop. Jakub ran a one-shot for his co-workers that turned into absolute chaos, and we’re super excited to be bringing you Starfinder in the near future!

Thank you to Agata Poniatowski for the Artwork and Strangelette for the music. • Vast Crystal Caverns

Howdy listeners, and welcome back to Dragon’s Demize! This week on the podcast, we’re back to our bread and butter with a review of Vast: The Crystal Caverns. Vast is such a unique game and we’re extremely excited to tackle it. In Vast, 2-5 players take on wildly asymmetrical roles and fight to accomplish their objective first. From the brave Knight, to the vicious Goblins, to the wily Cave itself, each role offers a completely unique gameplay experience. Check out the full review for our thoughts! You can also watch us play the game on Youtube.

As for what we’ve been playing, we’ve got a lot of new games to talk about this week. A few rounds of Sentinels of the Multiverse, Empires of the Void II, and Custom Heroes.

Thank you to Agata Poniatowski for the Artwork and Strangelette for the music. • RPGs: Story vs. Mechanics

Welcome back to Dragon’s Demize, listeners. This week, Greg and Jakub jump back into tabletop RPGs with a discussion of how different systems balance storytelling versus mechanics. While there’s no reason the two have to be exclusive, it can be a helpful way to describe what a particular system emphasizes. With that in mind, we run through some of the systems we’ve played and where they fall on a spectrum from Pure Storytelling to Pure Numbers.

Rather than what we’ve been playing, this week we talk about some of the games we’re most looking forward to trying. Several Kickstarter games make the list, including Empires of the Void II and Path of Light and Shadow.

Huge thank you to Agata Poniatowski for the Artwork and Strangelette for the music. For more information about Dragon’s Demize, or to let us know your ideas, check us out on Facebook, Discord, and Google+. We’re also on Twitter and Instagram if that’s more your speed. • City of Iron

Hello everyone, and welcome to another exciting episode of Dragon’s Demize. This week, we review City of Iron Second Edition. In City of Iron, players compete to build the most successful empires through exploration, conquest, or industry. The game features an incredible variety of strategies, both in terms of how you acquire the resources you need to win and what paths you choose when upgrading your empire. Listen in for the complete review!

But the review isn’t all that’s exciting this week. We are extremely happy to announce that we’ll be joined by a new voice on the podcast: Lesley! We met Lesley through the Washingcon planning committee, and you may recognize her as the moderator of 2017’s Women in Gaming panel. She’s agreed to join us for our reviews as often as we can, so we hope you all give her a warm welcome.

And finally, no episode would be complete without talk of what we’ve been playing lately. From tabletop RPGs to the melancholy humor of Gloom to exploring the world in Amerigo, we’ve got a lot to cover this week.

Huge thank you to Agata Poniatowski for the Artwork and Strangelette for the music.
