Traumatic brain injuries (or TBIs) usually occur from a sudden impact to the head. Concussions are the most common type of TBI. Headache is actually the most commonly seen symptom and may occur on-and-off for days afterwards. Do you keep the victim awake for many hours or wake them frequently? Dr. Alton explains techniques used to triage and treat concussions when help is not on the way and you are the end of the line.

It finally happened. In the recent past, the FDA has removed accessibility without a prescription to many drugs, mostly for food-producing livestock. But now, the animal products referenced in the December 2023 FDA warning letters (see link below), sent to Chewy and others to cease selling, are marketed and labeled for aquarium fish and pet birds. The products affected by the FDA warning are not, so far, being applied for approval as a New Animal Drug, nor has the FDA conditionally approved them for the Index of Legally Marketed Unapproved New Animal Drugs for Minor Species – these are the main legal pathways for animal drugs to reach the marketplace.

We always use “brand-name” items because it was important in terms of reliability, especially for potential life-savers like tourniquets, hemostatic dressings, and compression bandages. Aside from field case reports, however, we had little data to support our opinion that brand name (and quality) items vs cheaper fakes are important. Now, a study in The Journal of Special Ops Medicine (JSOM) compares the well-known Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT) to a much cheaper look-alike that occupies space in many thousands of medical kits: the Military Tactical Emergency Tourniquet (MTET).
