Dreaming Marble, Kim Kyung-suk

Listen Later

The artist Kim Kyung-suk, after her daughter received the diagnosis of a rare disease called 'Type 1 Diabetes' in 2014, dedicated ten years to taking care of her. Juggling the responsibilities as a mother, she faced the challenges of guiding her daughter through adolescence, especially after her daughter declared independence, expressing her intention to manage her own health upon entering college. The lost ten years of taking care of her daughter haunted her. Amidst the noise of the world due to COVID-19, she flew to Jeju, the farthest place from where she lived in Korea, starting a new journey alone of her own. Pursuing what she wanted to learn and draw freely, she has been living in Jeju for some time now, exhibiting the works she has created on the island for three years at the Halla Library and Jeju Folklore and Natural History Museum. Her aspiration is to continue depicting various landscapes of Jeju through both art and writing. Her daughter, resembling her, is currently managing her own health and enjoying university life. Kim Kyung-suk strives to be a mother who encourages her daughter to pursue dreams.
