  • Community Matters

When we surround ourselves with kind and loving people, it changes the outcome of our lives. Letting go of people who are bad for us can be uncomfortable. Sometimes we don’t even give ourselves permission to consider this option. Building your tribe means hand-picking those who you want close, and letting the rest go.

  • After the Love is Gone

Communication in every relationship is vital. When we withhold our feelings, especially anger, hurt, or disappointment, resentment starts to grow. And like a fire, it is wild and damaging. Susan shares an experience she had with someone close to her and how it destroyed a 30-year friendship, unnecessarily.

  • Salt-Water & Sand

Too much salt, not enough salt. Just add water. When we cook, we are looking for a tasty balance. As we navigate life, we need to do that same dance. Susan records from her beach vacation where she is restoring her own balance, recalibrating her mind and body to get back to center. Every choice we make either keeps us steady or tips the scale. It goes beyond food and includes all that we consume and believe to be true.

  • The Feel of You

Touch is essential to humans. Susan shares how this epidemic has restricted our ability to be physically connected and where that leaves us. For many, our wellbeing is dependent on touch, and the loss of it can add to the grief we are already experiencing. Navigating our need for human contact can feel like tiptoeing through a field of landmines.

  • Words are Power(ful) Tools

  • Life Really is a Plot Twist

Life is hard, and even through the pitfalls, we learn who we are and what we are made of. We revisit the first Dreams and Detours episode that is as relevant today.

New York native Daniel Joshua Rubin finds that life in Hollywood is not all it’s cracked up to be. Expressing his creativity was a principle Daniel was encouraged to do from a young age. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he learned early that if you’re going to do something, do it right! This included having an Orthodox Bar Mitzvah even though his family were not religious. Daniel has been a storyteller for over 30 years, getting his start at Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago, with plays produced in Chicago, NYC and London, before heading to LA where he wrote for popular television series on NBC and WB networks. He has collaborated with award-winning artists, further shaping his craft. In the end, Dan walked away from the glitz of Hollywood and shares why it’s not so glamorous after all and what he's discovered instead.

  • The Burden of Trauma

Trauma can come from a variety of sources, including violence, assault, war, prison, and abuse. Layered like an onion, trauma can root itself so deep that it sticks to our genes, impacting not just ourselves, but future generations. The reverberations and consequences are playing out in our communities, in our world, and it needs to be treated, right now.

About Dreams and Detours™

From the publisher's feed

Dreams and Detours™ is a show about the life we thought we were going to have vs the one we are living. We all have a story. I share mine and I speak to others about following their dreams, or getting derailed entirely. And then getting back up again.
