Guest: D. W. Brooks had a kidney transplant (over 8 years in), spent almost a month in Africa with her family last summer, and used to be on her high school and college dance teams, Author of Romantic Suspense: The CHAOS Universe

D. W. Brooks is an author who has independently published three romantic suspense books and two contemporary romance novels. Writing stories about people who looked like her was D. W.’s first career goal at age eight, but without understanding how to achieve those goals at that time, she moved to dream number two: medicine. Although health problems later in life altered those plans, she is grateful to have been given another opportunity to live out her writing dreams. In addition to writing books, D. W. is also a retired ophthalmologist and a kidney transplant recipient of over eight years. She is originally from Alabama but now lives outside of Houston with her husband, daughter, and son when he's not in school. 

 

She has a couple of live events in July -- one in the Houston area and one in NYC.

Patricia Smith is the author of The Year of Needy Girls, a Lambda Literary Award finalist. Her fiction has appeared in Blue Mountain Review, The Master’s Review, So to Speak, and The Tusculum Review.  

 

A three-time Pushcart nominee, her nonfiction has been featured in InkFish Magazine, with other work appearing in such places as Hippocampus, Broad Street, Salon, Prime Number, and several anthologies. Most recently, she was awarded the Hebestreit Award for Adventure Writing from the National English Honor Society. A repeat Fellow of the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, she was given the Emyl Jenkins Award by James River Writers for inspiring a love of writing. She teaches Dual Enrollment English and Literary Arts at the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School in Petersburg, VA, and she lives in Chester, VA with her wife, Cindy.

Drinking With Authors | Featuring Ayman Samman 

Guest: Ayman Samman fronted metal bands, was a tour Guide in Egypt, and worked with Clint Eastwood. Author of Hidden From View 

 

Drink of Choice: Coffee 

Ayman Samman was born in Cairo, Egypt. After earning a degree in Egyptology and fronting one of the very first Heavy Metal bands in Egypt, he moved to Chicago and pursued a career in music. While in Chicago he fell in love with acting and studied and performed with Chicago's best. He lives in Los Angeles as a full-time actor, writer and director. 

 

As a fluent speaker of both Arabic and English, he is able to portray a vast range of characters. Ayman's first major film role was in the Clint Eastwood's Oscar nominated blockbuster film, American Sniper, where he shared the memorable dinner scene with Bradley Cooper. He can also be seen in his guest starring and recurring roles on Primetime network shows like Blindspot, NCIS: Los Angeles, Scandal, Madam Secretary, The Looming Tower, NICS: New Orleans. 

 

As a filmmaker, his latest dramatic short film, “Jumper” was a finalist in Cannes 2019 and his comedic short “The Pitch” has earned him a Silver Telly award. Ayman also co-created the first Arab-American animated comedy series Momo's Amerika which was recently acquired by Comedy Central.
