Patti Vasquez is joined by State Rep. Diane Blair Sherlock (D-IL).
Blair Sherlock talked about the weekend politically motivated shootings in Minnesota and how the current political climate has impacted her personal life and family. She also addressed community concerns over ICE raids and the federal government's actions on immigration. Speaking about her work in Springfield, the two-term Democrat said that Medicaid expansion and trans athletes in school sports were the two issues that Republicans "got really ugly about" in the legislative session that just ended. "We just push back as hard as we can," she said.
Blair Sherlock promoted the second annual Juneteenth Celebration happening in Bloomingdale, Illinois, on June 19, 2023.
"I started this event last year, in large part because people don't know who lives in their community and they're not around people who aren't like them. And we need to encourage diversity and let people know, these are your neighbors. And this is also a time where certain parts of the government are trying to rewrite or erase history, and Juneteenth is such an important part of our history."
