An experienced sales leader, Alyson has built and lead teams across multiple managed health care carriers in the CA Small Group market over the last 16 years. Her enthusiastic, results-driven approach and ability to adapt and innovate have enabled her to successfully lead even through consistent and significant industry change. After graduating from Arizona State University, Alyson enjoyed several years in the entertainment industry, working in both television production and record label production management before finding her place in the healthcare industry, 20 years ago, in 2001. Alyson spent 10 years at Health Net leading various account management teams and then moved to Anthem Blue Cross as a Director of Account Management in 2015. In 2020, Alyson was named Regional Vice President, Small Group Sales and Account Management at Anthem Blue Cross. She now has responsibility for statewide sales, retention, distribution, as well as influencing all aspects of the CA Small Group organization, including strategic oversight of pricing, product, network and marketing.

Sally Prather has more than 25 years of industry experience. She is Executive VP and the Employee Benefits Practice Leader for Alera Group. In this role, Sally focuses on the continued development of the firm’s employee benefits practice, including platform expansion and resource coordination, working with firms across the country to strengthen the Alera Group value proposition. Prior to joining Alera, Sally served as VP, Paychex Insurance Agency, and before that, she was the Head of Employee Benefits Business at Marsh & McLennan Agency. She’s a graduate of Marietta College with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management.

Continuation coverage is important to employees, places legal obligations on employers, and is an essential component of both fully insured and self-funded health plans.  Therefore, producers and employers need to understand how the coverage works and how it is administered.  This program will help attendees identify which employers are subject to COBRA or Cal-COBRA, and when employees are eligible for these benefits.  Key administrative tasks will be explained, such as essential notice requirements, setting premiums, and the basis for early termination of coverage.  Because continuation of coverage rights does not exist in a vacuum, the program will include a discussion of the impact of Medicare, ACA reporting, stop-loss coverage, and Covered California eligibility.  Key differences, as well as the interrelationship, between COBRA and Cal-COBRA will also be highlighted.
