  • 046: Ensemble - Music Writing Software with Kirk Potter (Updated Audio)

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

*Updated Audio: previously I'd accidentally released this episode with a sample track of PM Willie Gray muted, so around the 1hr mark there's just a moment of silence. This has now been corrected & the tune is audible.

Kirk Potter is a Drummer by day and a Computer Geek... also by day. Creating PadLab with Rhythm Monster wasn't enough for Kirk, he had to go and revolutionize the world of pipe band music notation as well with his award-winning, Ensemble.

Tune into this episode to hear Kirk incorrectly pronounce Richard Ayoade's last name!

  • 045: Memorization - A New Year’s Episode with Swan

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

What if you could tattoo your sheet music on the inside of your eyelids? What if you could have a full catalog of sheet music stored at the back of your brain to be projected into your occipital lobe whenever you wanted?

Swan returns to the show to discuss Dr. Stephanie Burns' book in which she shares the secrets to do (basically) that.

Seriously though - it's an amazing book, it will change your life, and following her instructions will bring you, basically, music-memorizing super powers.

Enjoy the episode and buy the book!

  • 044: Wexford Carol and Yuletide Tacos with Erin

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

'tis the season of pine trees, falling snow, and Christmas Hams... unless you're Erin, in which case 'tis the season of giant avocado trees, falling avocados from said trees, and Christmas chips & salsa. Tune into this episode to hear more about delicious rattlesnacks than you'd expected as well as some great, "history," regarding mandolins, bagpipes, mexican food, and more - including a very cool tune, "The Wexford Carol". Happy end-of-year to you all, dear friends!

Here's the cool Molly in the Mineshaft album we talked about, from which we pulled the rendition of Wexford Carol heard in this episode: https://mollyinthemineshaft.bandcamp.com/track/wexford-carol

Here's the album on which Erin collaborated with me for that rendition of, "Shalom," featured in this episode (it's track #12): https://heritagebagpipes.bandcamp.com/album/sunday-smallpipes-vol-ii

Here's the awesome Christmas Tune collection we mentioned, by Timothy Cummings: https://birchenmusic.com/product/on-this-day-earth-shall-ring-printed-collection/ Here's last year's Christmassy episode where Tim was interviewed, (and may I just suggest all the other December episodes with my dear friends, they were super fun and worth a re-visit): https://www.heritagebagpipes.com/podcast/episode/3c1eb249/017-final-christmas-episode-timothy-cummings

Here's an awesome YouTube video of Evan Marshall playing a mandolin solo that sounds like a duet... or more...: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imDg23yex7w

Here's the Lambchop Christmas Special: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_EyTYNMiW4

And if Erin happens to find that obscure Christmas Acoustic Guitar album, I promise to paste a link here:

  • 043: The Camille Episode

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

Dr. Camille Ausbroad is a Professor of nearly everything at a local University on the tiny island she calls home somewhere on the underside of the globe. I don't know, it's not America.

For those who don't already know: she's a maker of many things - one of the most recent, a book which she co-authored with Andrew Douglas of Piper's Dojo fame. The book, "Finding Bagpipe Freedom," is available for purchase and let me just go ahead and say it: it'd make a great Christmas gift for you and for someone you love. So grab a few copies today at this link right here! Tune into this episode to hear an Australian say, (surely not for the first time,) "what the f--- is a Blooming Onion?"

*Oh, and keep in mind: as a general rule there are some words which, though not commonplace in American English casual conversations, drip - nay - flow freely in the Aussie vernacular... consider that a content warning...

  • 042: The Rose Episode (of the Wild Irish variety)

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

Rose has been all over the country and a decent chunk of the globe, but today she lands a few minutes to tell us about where she came from and how she got to be one of our beloved local pipers! Forgive the host for being a bit off, he was recovering from the second round of the COVID vaccine. Tune into this episode to hear Rose say, "I guess it was a scarf-- it could've repelled bullets though, it was knit so tightly..."
